What's the name of the cute female violinist with the curly black hair, with the small ring on her right pinky finger?? Wouldn't mind taking her out for dinner and a movie..
Why in the beginning of the ritual action of the ancestors in almost every version the horns play staccatissimo? in the score it is written a very long note without any staccato.
@lAMWEASEL It was meant to hark back to primal rhythms. The final part is a sacrifical dance, where the priests and community work themselves into a frenzy before murdering a young girl as part of an ancient ritual. The music is meant to be brutal, dissonant, and inelegant by the standards of the time. Even now, the piece has the ability to shock - it jars, and doesn't resolve at all into consonnance. It does not attempt to degrade culture but to remind us where culture began.
Did any notice that Maesrto Thomas was smiling at cetain passesges, especially at the end? I believe that this is the difinative pre-revision recording of the The Rite of Spring.
@mortalfrog0815 lessen pain of tendonitis and arthritis by making it wider rather than longer. isaac stern once said don erlich put it in the sun for too long, graffiti in symphony hall showed.
Regarding the D trumpet at 0:14 - the pitch is correct but it sounds very much like the player accents the D flat rather than the B flat and the C - I think that's why it sticks out slightly. The semitone interval between the D and 1st C trumpets doesn't help matters but it is correct!
Say what you want, I still think that this interpretation is amazing. The bass drum and the timpani have so much power and presence, and the ensemble is so incredibly together at the end of the Danse Sacrale- even considering the fast tempo. Performances of the Rite don't have to be "rough around the edges" to be viable- the brutality is written into the music as it is.
@kongming819 i have the partiture for this piece, and i know that you're wrong.:) there's an other note... I know that is just 1 mistake( at that place) but still...:P
@AIPThePharaoh I have the 1965, 1967, and 2000 editions of the score, not to mention two versions of the 4-hand arrangement. I also have perfect pitch, and the trumpets were definitely playing the right pitches (recheck D trumpet). Although some of the winds may be slightly out of tune, that doesn't mean that they were playing the wrong notes. There aren't any VERY conspicuous mistakes in this vid that I know of. I've listened to this piece 500 times...
this is probably the best version on youtube, with Salonen/ LA Phil's. Sacrificial dance is way too fast for me, and Gergiev/LSO's is too slow for me. THIS is PERFECT... except the bass clarinetist messing up at 4:09.
Probably the worst I've heard. Too fast, like waaayyy to fast. Sounded like he couldn't wait for it to end. It wasn't bad, far from that, but it was the 'least good' of the ones I've heard.
Salonen still holds the crown in my mind. Bernstein if he was still alive
well, it is kind of rushed, but I was someone who has been STUCK with that damn LSO version for three years, and then ANYTHING would sound perfect after that.........Ozawas is even faster I remember....had a whole thing last about 30 minutes only....
