The reason for this could be because of issues with the original recording. There were several instances in his other home demos from 1975-1980 where the batteries in his ghetto blaster were dying or did die while he was recording and thus distorted the actual speed of the demo which was then later edited digitally to compensate for the loss in speed.
@NeilFraudstrong You hit the nail on the head, man. Could have also happened during the transfer process... tape to tape, tape to CD, CD to MP, MP to youtube etc.
NOPE! THAT IS NOT JOHN, BUT KRON, LENNON'S LONG LOST BROTHER WHO LIVED JUST NEXT DOOR TO HUGH GRANT'S UNCLE'S FLATMATE WHO KNEW A TAXI DRIVER WHO KNEW SOMEONE I USED TO KNOW.
It's OK, Neil. Anyone who knew John would recognise his speaking voice here immediately. His singing voice was always mixed because he hated his own voice, so many fans have never heard him sing without some studio work on his track. But that voice--singing or speaking--touches deep. I knew John Lennon.
@NeilFraudstrong Thanks, Chris. and yes, HT, knowing John has been the single most extraordinary gift of my life. We understood each other--even without speaking. I have no use for bootlegs, but that is definitely NOT what Chris posts. I am so grateful to Chris for sharing these wonderful recordings. They are more an insight into what John was really thinking and feeling than they are a study in how he worked. Either way, they, too, are an extraordinary gift, with love from John to us.
yes well its all very interesting. What is annoying Chris is the fact that alot of loyal fans like I WANT to believe that what John said in public was how he felt in private too. I thought for years what he said he meant, but your bootlegs seem prove otherwise. I'd like to believe though that what they released ie Double fantasy is how they really truly felt and that the bootlegs are just how he felt at the time or in the moments of recording. but who knows, us humans sure are complex bastards
@inthenitesky Yes, John was a complex man, with fame that can hardly be fathomed. That deeply affected how he felt and what he said publicly. In this early period, when I first met him, he was longing for the simple right to be human. He was isolated, like the Beatlemania years. Look closely at the carefully posed pictures of John and Yoko. Does the cover of Double Fantasy show how you kiss your lover? No, he was kissing his Mother. Love John as is. He was and is easy to love--unconditionally.
amazing stuff. He seemed depressed in all these home recordings you've posted Neil. Unlike how he portrays life in his interviews leading upto his death. You must have known him or worked for him and Yoko to have all these home recordings. Did you acquire them legally? lol makes me wonder if he was really as happy as he made out. Im prob just reading too much into it all as a big fan though..
This is what I keep telling the Yoko Ono fan club. People go, "Oh John was perfectly happy! Listen to it in his interviews!" and I am like, "You are completely mad. What John said in public is not how he felt in private. This has been documented time and time again in comments made by his friends and his own home demos that he recorded WITHOUT A RECORD CONTRACT, that he recorded because he wanted to, not because he had to."
I did not work for J&Y, but I am friends with several people who did
@VonFisch1 .. ONEDAY you are going to going to feel AS SORRY AS A COUNTRY BUS-STOP about yer comment ..... NOW PULL YER SOCKS UP- COME COME now off yer go to john lennon demo school and get yer learning done -did n'GOT... and that will keep yer wee hands from ''comment postings'' ON things- you -dont- know- of =NOT
Part of the reason for that is because John was very insecure about his voice and thought that maybe he had lost the "it" factor. He insisted upon all of these overdubs and stuff on the original release to mask his voice a little despite Jack Douglas telling him repeatedly that his voice was still great.
@NeilFraudstrong ....ive never rated Jack douglas.. any record hes been involved show a sameness to lameness...theres no colour no breeze no kick...they all sounds like some coke drenched marble shoping malls......Ive got A LOTTA LENNON DEMOS i dug his work on ''walking on thin ice'...i know Yoko HAS not a clueAbout when john is sounding good.....and jack doug''musta been gleefuly bank the DOSHalong with david Geffin AND EL MUUUUUUUUURITSZ....but i love these demos
@NeilFraudstrong Yes, that is precisely correct. George Martin also tried to convince John that his vocals did not need studio tricks, reverb, sweetening. I am not into bootlegs at all, but this is something different, and I thank you for sharing it with those of us who really love John.
Of course it's John Lennon. I only feel like this and want to cry when I listen to that voice.

Yes she did. Kathy is a great contributor of information to this channel because she knew the man, not the myth.

This kind of sounds like Lennon. But, definately not. The rythmic chord piano was fitting. The tune selection was subpar for even McCartney.
