I really liked your video and your channel. If you need any help getting this video or channel exposed I use a site called tubeviews.(net) It has really helped like 20 of my main videos get to the top in position. God Bless!
i loved the last rule, know how to fall. this and all the other rules can apply to life in someway or the other. i liked it when he said, "dont hang on till the bitter end" so true :)
i love every ted talk, could it be that people who don't like these kinds of talk are obese and have no interest in sports or being a skilled person physically? this kind of knowledge is very mundane but knowing the principles of friction climbing can help you get a view of the landscape if you ever get lost.
Something like this isnt about survival if the apocalypse comes or if you 'get lost'. You wont get lost in the forest if you dont go out into the forest rock climbing all the time!
This is an act that is done for the act itself, not another end.
there's a lot of people that do it because it's enjoyable, but there's a lot of people like bear grylls or one of those actual japanese shinobi i saw that used these techniques for other means as well. to gather intelligence on the enemy forces or pull a perfect heist for example.
nowadays it's mostly done for sport yes i agree but watch that guy bear grylls to see what i mean
You think bear grylls needs to do that stuff? He choses to, rather than working in an office. Good for him, but dont get confused about why people learn how to climb (or become survivalist adventurers). Its not so they can find their way if they ever get lost: its for the thrill of the experience.
well maybe he just wasn't made for an office job, for some that's just not an option so it might be the case that he eats raw bugs to make a living because being a tough SOB is what he's good at
"I don't understand why there's this whole taboo about anything that can lead to death"
LOL
I think you missed the point of what I said before. I was being somewhat factious. If literally everyone in the world went mountain climbing countless people woudl die. I have nothing against rock climbing, I was just making fun of your illogical class A statement.
if nobody would drive 115 lives in USA would be saved per DAY!
If nobody would walk out without necessity out of their armored bunker like houses (that they would buy instead of regular ones)...
the truth is simple if u want to live you have to take risks. And rock climbing is safe if you want to make it safe if you want to take more risks with it you can as well. its ppls choice
Consider that he already has lived life and choses points that fit to life. See any essential climbing points that is missing? Alway put chalk on your hands. Always wear really small shoes. Attach yourself to a rope.
See?
The entire talk is useless. Could just as well been a gardener talking about 9 lessons from gardening or a painter talking about 9 lessons from painting and so on.
Some of us actually really enjoy heights. I don't think it would be a very good hobby for anyone who is afraid of heights. Would you go spelunking if you suffer from claustrophobia?
Me, I had better stay the hell away from bee keeping ;-)
I'm number 5 and i'm glad someone else has relised women are and will always be better climbers because they use brains instead of brawn respect. P.s mental is 99 percent of everything in life
Yeah Spacemonkey. Women as "just as good as men." All they want is "equality." But, ACTUALLY (according to them), they're really somewhat better than men at everything...
The most skilled free climbers in the world right now happen to be men, and the physical makeup plays a significant role in that. The mind can only do so much.

1 and 9 seem to conflict, I guess you do the balancing.
l1hao 2 years ago
It's not conflicting. 9 is if you absolutely have to let go and you have no alternative. Falls in with "have a plan".

I don't know about this video, this "advice" sounds rather obvious.

I love rock climbing!
everyone should try it
princeofexcess 2 years ago 2
If everyone actually did try it, statistically many people would die, you are a sick person.
xXAkridXx 2 years ago
WHATS LIFE IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW IT FEELS TO LIVE!!!
ROCK CLIMBING IS LIFE!!!!
XD XD XD
also not that many people die
ppl that die arent careful enough
climb on old bolts and use unsafe rope and other equipment
you can do it really safe and if you never want to risk a little bit then you dont have too :D

My point still stands.

Very good advise. I think that woman would have good leg/hip mussels for rock climbing. I don't think it's a very good pastime to dangerous.
austpom333 2 years ago
The point is that climbing is about balance, not about strength.
gamesbok 2 years ago 2
I guess their still strength and stamina involved, along with balance which is really important

Amazing how similar climbing is to life. Almost all of these tips can be applied to your daily life.

yeah, I simply can't afford watching hour long videos. it's a time management nightmare.
I wish people at TED and other youtube channels would understand that they got to have VERY good reasons to go beyond 5 minutes!

Fear really gets the best of me when climbing or hiking on narrow paths in the mountains.
Just watching this got my feet and hands sweating.

There's actually some pretty good advice here--that takes a lot of experience (including failure) to come to know.
Excellent stuff for people just starting out (in any endeavor, of course) to think about carefully.

He forgot my favourite rule:
#10 - Don't look down!
I've always wanted to go mountain climbing, but my numbing irrational fear of heights keeps me firmly planted on the hiking trails.
