How many times can one fucking quote by endlessly raped, misread, abused and murdered by super-cheesy hollywood garbage? Don't get me wrong, I thought the Rock was a good movie; it's the dialogue I'm referring to as garbage in this case. I think Connery bring in his own writers for his own lines was a wise, wise move.
You find a comment from 2 mos ago that upsets your world view enough that you respond, & all you can say is "dumb beast"?! Heh. There really must be something to that old saw about how insults really say so much more about the maker than the target.
Look, if you think it's all grown up & adult to start throwing ad homs at people who happen to hold opinions different from you (it isn't, but that's a typical left-wing attitude), have the decency to do a good job, & not futz around.
A confrontation that doesn't disappoint. Mason, who could easily be identified as a victim of the kind of mistreatment that Hummel is fighting to stop in his own country, nevertheless coldly identifies the futility of what Hummel is trying to do. Could it be that years of unjust incarceration have given Mason a unique perspective, or is this a somewhat forced contrast between the extremes of American attitudes and the extremes of British attitudes on the subject of combating injustice.
@Phantasma71 Yeah all this Political Correctness is Bullshit!! And yet there is talk of a Mosque getting built on Ground Zero?? The world has gone MAD!! Wear yo
@TheSaltyAdmiral Except Sean Connery is merely reading a line not written by him. His personal attitude is exactly the opposite: he resents like hell the smug, self-righteous attitude of the elites, as exemplified by Olberman, who have nothing but contempt for those who answer the call of duty and actually pay the price to give them the freedom to indulge in such mockery

Hey thanks for posting this. I was wondering if anyone else had a clue as to what patriotism really is.
The pledge of allegience is a loyalty oath. It used to be said with an outstretched hand like for Heil Hitler. Jefferson said "The tree of liberty is nourished by the blood of revolutionaries. No citizen of a democratic country should ever pledge unswerving loyalty to any government or flag."

@dragnsly, @garrybellamy, @jum1801,@caribdevist, @georgehalo123, @wunderbeast, @erentheca, @thesaltyadmiral,
But wasn't Oscar Wilde a degenerate who made a living by simply inverting truisms of traditional virtue?
And Connery himself is a Nationalist.

@ProNorden Well, this is a movie. Connery is speaking in character.

@alexgorman13 Captain John Price, Captain John Mason, both SAS, only Sean Connery would shove a bat up price's arse and turn him into a popsicle.

Classic miss quote of Jefferson. Wilde and Jefferson would have not disagreed regarding patriotism.

Would have been funny if Hummel said "Oscar Wilde was a flaming fag!"

Patriotism does not exist in sweden. In Sweden, patriotism=racism.

i love that quote

Should have included the quote from General Hummel right before it, it really makes the scene a hell of a lot more epic.
John Mason is a fucking 1337 spy. Other than getting caught andnd arrested for 30 years. >_>
Other than that, 1337.
