Any place hauling trailers for a living don't trust the Fords with the powerstroke.Use mostly Dodge Duallies with the Cummins and Chevy/GMC duallies with the Duramax.Fix for the the 6.0 and 6.4 powerstroke problems is to ditch them and put a Cummins in it's place, there is a conversion kit to do this. The 6.0 and 6.4 powerstrokes are known for blowing up with no warning at all with rods through the block.I was told about one with the 6.0 with 30,000 miles on it that blew up with no warning
I myself like the 6.0 and the 6.4, I think they are a great design other than the emissions they have to pass, they would last much longer if they didnt have to pass that. With head studs, egr block and some tuning, they will outperform and outrun any 7.3 out there and the 6.4 can do even more!
We have lots of diesels. Semis, flatbeds, tractors and trucks and powerstrokes are shitty from the factory.we have internationals. Cummins. Perkins diesels and kubotas. And a real diesel is a inline 6. And the ford truck itself is outdated and has looked the same since 99. So go fuk urself
lol i like how the guys who actually own the 6L diesel like them and admit they do have a few problems but are a nice motor, and the guys who dont own them instantly call them shit, weve had a few 6Ls n still have one, there a nice motor
7.3 are solid. 6.0s are junk. have potential. but got to be rebuilt with aftermarket headbolts. new vgt aftermarket turbo, tuning and pumps. lots of money.but 6.4 are badass stock and strong from the factory, have the dual seq turbo and 4 headbolts per cylinder instead of 2 like the crummy 6.0 . as well as the new 6.7 that has a newer turbo and 6 headbolts per cylinder which wil be the best.
@rsr530 What are you talking about, two headbolts per cyl? Not even Ford would be stupid enough to attempt to seal the compression into a gas engine with two bolts. Even four bolts per cyl is putting serious limitations on sealing capacity. Thats why GM put 6 bolts on the LSX block, and thats a gas engine.
The 6.0 is a big piece POS and Jasper can prove it.The 6.0 has head problems, cracking and Jasper does over 30 improvements.I have seen this this list. The Jasper rep I know calls a powerstroke a Powerpuke.I have heard about a shop in Hart,Mi and all they work on are 6.0,6.4 and 7.3 powerstrokes which are expensive to repair.Plus it pays for their morgage
You all seem to know what your talking about so i have a question.
I bought an 04 with the 6.0 (lariate crew cab 4x4) when i bought it it still had factory warannty on it. anyways it was blowin white smoke but only when it got warm so i took it and had it checked out but i'm still kinda sketish about it lasting and not having much trouble out of it i've put around 10k miles on it since it was fixed (all new seals and gaskets for egr cooler) Is there anything i should worry about? ps bone stock
id worry about headgaskets injector o rings, and head studs. by the time you get some km's racking up id get those head gaskets done. and get a new set of studs too.
theres a guy on here who has his own channel called powerstrokehelp check his channel out he knows his stuff, tells you all about the 7.3's, 6 liters, and the 6.4
Yea, I been lookin at his videos. seems like he'd be the guy to talk to but i can't get him to reply. I even went to his website and emailed him directly.
@bangnstangs Search youtube for POWER STROKE HELP or POWERSTROKEHELP look at their channel. There are important recomendations you need to follow, I don't own a Powerstroke, never have never will lol. But,it could happen again you could blow your motor.
either its just me or the guy that had the 6.0 railed the crap out of it, 6.0's dont normally break down very much or have major problems unless you beat the crap out of them, be nice to your trucks! :P
if you own a 6.0 and use the high Zic oil And keep it maintained yes its a good motor...........the only drawback is fords torqu to yeild head bolts EVERY yes i said EVERY 6.0 will need headgaskits or a egr cooler replaced befor they hit 200,000MILES
ok what ever i drive a company truck with 230,000 on it no trouble at all and all we run is rotella 15w40 and the company i work for only runs rotella also so no not all will need work at 200,000 miles and i think ford had their troubles pretty much worked out by 06 i said pretty much cause yes some will need work but not every one will
oh yeah, and i know it can be removed with out taking the cab off. i just wanna know why you would say it can be done it 3.5hrs. it's a whole hell of a lot to get it back in if you take the tranny out first
what i meant to say was it's easier to install the engine (cab-on) with the transmission removed. you may be able to get it out fairly easily, but it's a pain in the ass to put it back in
we had two 05 f-450 6.0's that the oil pump exploded at the same time. we never did find what went through them. My best guess is that a piece of injector d-ring went though it. the pump is made out of spring steel so when it explodes it can take out a lot of parts quick.
This happened to my 04 powerstroke 6.0 what caused this bearing to blow? it also blew up by HPOP. had it programed with a loony tune from SCT 200 hp, 390 tq.
Just curious about that pump that is cracked. I am doing a short block on a 6.4L, utility truck with a boom, and the front pump shatter into about 50 peices taking out the bearings. Its a pain in the arse. I'd rather do 6.0l engine in an e-series ambulance. But anyways, what happened to this particular unit?
I had the same concern as you but my fears is now gone. I own a 2007 f-250 6.0L powestroke with nearly 24,000 miles (+/- 750 engine hours) and everyday the engine runs better. But I noticed something interesting this engine runs better and more smoothly if you fill it with ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel) instead of regular diesel. I hope this help you.
so far they arent as bad the 6.0 when they first came out. we are starting to see more of them come in for the same probelms. they really arent too bad to work on, its just alot more time consuming then the 6.0.
@PWRSTR0KER2008 i got a 6.0 with 170,000 and so far all ive had go wrong is my ficm going bad the egr cooler did have a hole so i deleated all the egr shit mine pulls the lawn care trailers everyday and i run the balls off it and so far so amazing compared to my uncles 6.4 the 6.0 whoops its ass all day long

just a tip for all those techs out there... if you grab the motor from the front you can have it out in 3.5 hrs... without taking the cab off

I have read that the 2006-2007 6.0L had far less problems than the 03-04 and was wondering if this was true? Thinking of an 07 6.0L

Oh ok. I appreciate it the information. What kind of mpg do you get in your 6.0L?
bigdaveCP 2 years ago
+/- 18mpg. I drive mostly on hill areas. Also I own a 2008 f-450 (6.4L) with 4.88 axle and I get 12.4mpg.
ruizhernandeztrustfi 2 years ago
Damn thats pretty good then at 18. Do you have intake or exhaust or is that stock?
F450? Thats awesome, does that thing tow like there's no tomorrow?
bigdaveCP 2 years ago
f-250 is 100% stock and f-450 is 100% stock and is a beast, you can haul anything you want without problem.
Both trucks have manual transmissions in case you want to know, I believe manual tranny can pull better than auto (At least for my experience).
