@jamstan1 That seems to be quite normal for the 580's due to how hot they run. If you aren't comfortable with a temperature that high, you could always bump up the fan speed a bit or put some money into a nice aftermarket cooler. To be honest, anything under 90 on load is fine for a gtx 580. If I recall correctly, any temps above 105 C causes permanent damage to the card. 84 on load is fine.
@jamstan1 You shouldn't really need to raise the fan speed unless your temps are too high. But always remember to monitor your temps and to use a stress test program to make sure you aren't artifacting. The fan speed control is really just there to give you cooler temperatures at the cost of a louder computer.
my computer blew up and the fragments ripped up my face and now i had to get 3 years of plastic surgery... it will cost $50000........................ LOL JOKES
guys only use overclock if you have a watercooling. if you dont have dont overclock to much :) if you put it to high it crashe but after restart it fine again this lucky wont stay for long. what i mean is be carefull ;)

@spingeneral Sorry, I wouldn't know. But you could try a different overclocking tool (better in my opinion), called MSI Afterburner. It is a bit easier to use.
That is quite strange. Trying running MSI Afterburner in the background, and run a game and play it for say 10 minutes, and then Alt Tab out of the game and check MSI Afterburner to see what core clock, fan speed, etc. its running at.
@Doochebag288 i have tested both. no luck. still the same. what seems to be wrong? is it because im using another brand of video card (Inno3D)? thanks for the reply.
@Doochebag288 here's what i did. from 550MHz slided to 700MHz. fan speed at 60%. after playing a couple of games for about an hour. then checked the msi afterburner graph screen by alt+tab. Core Clock Speed, Min: 550MHz Max: 550MHz. while running, still at 550MHz.
What do you mean you don't want your fan speed high? If youre pushing your GPU to its limits, don't you want it to be cold instead of scorching hot? Cold > Hot, Loud > Quiet.

@gangstaredwan Overclocking, is the ability to make your video card or processor perform at a higher level than it does at the default settings or factory settings.
hi im a bit stuck here plz help me i wnt to play gta 4 and well i need to have this rewuirement:video card 256mb nvidia 7900/256mb ati x1900 and well i tryd looking on google for help but nothings helping plz help and heres my infomation:
@gangstaredwan Hi, Alright. OK so, what GTA4 really means when they give yo uthe required specs, is that those specs are the bare minimum that you could have, and if you played the game with those specs, you would lag tremendously. Unfortunately, GTA4 on the PC is a game that takes a lot of power and good parts and specs to run. Unfortunately your parts just won't do it for GTA4, and overclocking is not meant to double the power or anythng like that, but to jsut compliment the specs of your GPU.
@gangstaredwan OK, unfortunately, with a laptop it is very hard to run high end games, without a laptop that yo upayed like 1500 bucks for. If we were talking about a desktop, I would have told you to run to a store like NCIX to purcahse new parts like a new video card, that you cna install, but unfortunately, laptops cannot be upgraded like that, and usually need professional help, and would cost you more than it would to just buy a new desktop.
@gangstaredwan So my advice to you, would to buy a new desktop at around the 800 dollar price mark, or to build one for like 600 which would almsot double the performace of a desktop that you buyt from stores.
@gangstaredwan If you plan on building one, and you dont know how check out site like hardwarecanucks that can help you, or even stores like NCIX that can build one for you, and can sell you parts. I buy all my parts from NCIX, and build them myself. It is a great hobby, and almost ensures you that you can run anygame
@venkateswar0027 I believe the core is stock at 450mhz , the shader at 1134mhz, and the memory at 600mhz. And if you don't know already, the 512mb of VRAM is ddr2.
Thanks heaps for the vid mate. i have the standard clock version of your card and ive been trying unsuccessfully to overclock it for ages. I dont think im gonna go anywhere near 710mhz though.
@NZhouldhavewon Yeah, I know a lot of people with 260s who just can't seem to overclock it just a wee bit, without throwing it off balance. I guess I just got lucky, lol. But meh, 260s are hella fast at stock anyways! :P
hmm thats pretty screwed up, i could have sworn rivatuner would work. Anyways, just try using ATItool, if you can. Most people get a kernal error of some sort, but you might as well give it a shot.
yeah its pretty good for its price, but if you have the money you might wanna get a newer card or if you dont like ATI wait for the nvidia 300 series.
for cod4 a 9800gt hsould be fine, but if you want to, jsut crank core clock up by liek 50 mhz and shader up by 100 and mem up by liek 75mhz. That shouidl be fine. Cheers
Uhh. Im not quite sure what is going on, but you could also try a program called OCCT which has a great gpu stress test and and also a great cpu stress test. I reckon ur problem might be a driver problem though. Were you installing the latest ATITool version, and what operating system are you using?
to be honest I have no clue for I do not use the test function on precision. I advise you to use ATITool to test it, because it will most definately be more accurate.
heh. well basically, its just making a videocard or processor go faster than it's default speed or stock speed. So basically its just getting a bigger bang for your buck.
Hey I cant change that Fan speed thing there, is that matter ? and when I change those core clock, shader clock, memory clock do I have to then press apply?
Yeah, some cards do not let you adjust the fan speed. It shouldnt matter that much, only if you are doing some serious overclocking. Yes you do have to click apply and also click apply on windows startup once you are sure that it is stable.
I just noticed..... my core clock is at 675 and yours is at 710 as max... my shaders on 1674.. while yours is like 1401 and my mem is at 960.. which is lower than yours. but i'm satisfied
I got a question... when I run ati tool it says that visual testing is disabled, it also says to go to my display properties, then settings and enable the monitor output of the card, one thing i would want to know is how do i enable the monitor output, I really want to see if my video card is stable so please help I would thank you so much! If you can't help me, if you have friends that can help it would be apreciated Thanks!
i have a evga 9600 gso 512mb and i set mine as 699/1754/1014 with a 3gb ram computer and the highest fps i got on that fury cube thing was about 915fps is that good? oh and one more thing my processor (AMD Athalon 64X2 Dual) i heard that it wasnt good so if i did get a better one will it make a big difference?
to be honest, that is fine, if you arent some intensive gamer. But the diff between a gtx 260 and ur card is a huge diff so I would consider an upgrade. BTW thats a really good overclock and I kinda doubt that you are stable, so if I were you I would run ati tool for like 10 hours and check if there are any yellow artifacts man. Also make sure ur temps dont go above 90c!
Well in my opinion if you have a bad processor upgrade that but what doochebag is talking about is the video card, he says that you should upgrade your 9600 gso to a gtx 260 or something that is more affordable in your interest. I would suggest some research on the video card that is pretty affordable to you and is very good, the nvidia gtx 260 and 275 are cheap but great!
Thanks man, you might wanna try rivatuner, for overclocking. Its quite the same as precision, but remember to check your temperatures before, during, and after overclocking.
1 more thing lol i ran oc scanner for 12min and at the end it said that the gpu temp was 84c is
that safe for short term and long term use what is the max temp this card can safely reach
and again thanks so much :)

hey man im confused. on default, my gpu temperature is 47-50C. i tried overclocking my
video card to everything on max and adjusted the fan speed to 60%, i still get 48-50C. i
also tried benchmarking on Mafia II and i get 52fps by default, same fps on overclocked.
i dont really see any differences. does overclocking really speed up your video card?

Physdog 2 years ago
heh. well basically, its just making a videocard or processor go faster than it's default speed or stock speed. So basically its just getting a bigger bang for your buck.

Hey I cant change that Fan speed thing there, is that matter ? and when I change those core clock, shader clock, memory clock do I have to then press apply?
hsabi1 2 years ago
Yeah, some cards do not let you adjust the fan speed. It shouldnt matter that much, only if you are doing some serious overclocking. Yes you do have to click apply and also click apply on windows startup once you are sure that it is stable.
Take care.

Thanks man, I hope this works. I dont see anything better in my computer now but maybe it takes for a bit time to let it works =D 5/5.
And I'v got Nvidia GeForce 9600m GT

heh thanks, yeah its normal for a 9600mgt to not have an adjustable fan speed. Just make sure not to overclock it TOO much, and youl be fine.

And my video card is also a 9800 gt from PNY so that is kind of lame do you think? just need an opinion.

I just noticed..... my core clock is at 675 and yours is at 710 as max... my shaders on 1674.. while yours is like 1401 and my mem is at 960.. which is lower than yours. but i'm satisfied

i have a evga 9600 gso 512mb and i set mine as 699/1754/1014 with a 3gb ram computer and the highest fps i got on that fury cube thing was about 915fps is that good? oh and one more thing my processor (AMD Athalon 64X2 Dual) i heard that it wasnt good so if i did get a better one will it make a big difference?

to be honest, that is fine, if you arent some intensive gamer.
Doochebag288 2 years ago
lol alright my temp is stable at 50 right now :), upgrade my processor or the 9600 gso?
tjjhonson 2 years ago
Well in my opinion if you have a bad processor upgrade that but what doochebag is talking about is the video card, he says that you should upgrade your 9600 gso to a gtx 260 or something that is more affordable in your interest. I would suggest some research on the video card that is pretty affordable to you and is very good, the nvidia gtx 260 and 275 are cheap but great!

Thanks man, you might wanna try rivatuner, for overclocking. Its quite the same as precision, but remember to check your temperatures before, during, and after overclocking.
