  • Hi Melissa, could you plz come up with a review of Kindle 3 as well? You seem to be a great gadget-critique:)

  • Considering you didn't open it and just gave your preconceived notions, that review was useless.

  • this is a great piece of kit. get one. i did and am not regretting it. although its abit expensive, i think the money you save over time will buy for device. plus the convenience is something you cannot beat.

  • this is a great piece of kit. i got one about a month ago and i'm loving it. can't wait to go travelling with it. this is where it will shine IMO.

advice: buy one if you can

  • My only problem with the Kindle is the price tag. I would have no problems if someone wanted to randomly give me one. :)

  • at first I had no Idea what akindle was

sounds really cool carry around a whole library in i book space!how very HG Wells

  • I'm interested to see what you think of it. I'm pretty interested in it as well. A big downside for me is that they will probably make me turn in off when I'm taking off and landing on a plane. I fly a lot and do a lot of reading during that period.

  • With a device like this I don't think you would have to turn it off. It doesn't using power unless you are turning pages or browsing the web/downloading. I don;t think they would have a problem with it unless you were using the internet. But I am not entirely sure.

  • Also, I've never experienced any eye strain at all with it as an FYI to people who have that concern. The whole way that the Kindle is built is to avoid eye strain - it's basically electronic ink that reacts to my eyes the same way as a paper book.

  • I just got a Kindle and ended up really loving it, but I think it might be specific to my life as a non-car-owning, 45-minute-a-day-commuting person in Manhattan. It's a billion times easier to have the Kindle in my purse than a traditional book. There's no awkward "I only have 50 pages left in Book 1, so I need to bring 2 books to work" stuff. It's impressively easy/fast to get books onto the Kindle. And cheaper than book stores. Overall, I'm a fan, but I still read "real" books as well.

  • I am actually offended by some of the racist shits who post here. There is absolutly no need to call ppl names specially 'whore' wen they r far from it. Specially wen u dislike Pres Obama give justified reasons not bulshit statements like mattrmc19. It seriously pisses me off. They wll never say this shit in front of ppls faces cus they actualy a pussy n use the internet to spread racist n hurtfull comments ppl like that r real being priks

  • How come the unemployment rate is so high? I thought your messiah Obama was going to save the galaxy? What happened? You supported him, you fucking whore! You enabled this affirmative action loser to become president. You only voted for him because you're ashamed of your race and think voting for some black guy, any black guy, would make you sooooo tolerant. When it all goes up in flames and the country is broke and in total chaos, I hope you go to the gallows right along with obama.

  • You think it's because of Obama people are loosing jobs...Lmao what an idiot

  • its ok to not support the president but theres no need to call melissa a whore. FYI the job losses r lower than they were since the beggining of the recession and dont 4 get obama inherited the economic crises from bush it takes longer to fix this mess. get ur facts ryt b 4 u vent ur fustration jus because u hate obama.

  • The DHS report was spot on. The hate is brewing in conservative circles.... I hope you don't go apes**t and start shooting people with whom you disagree, just like your cohorts...

  • like that muslim democrat that murdered a soldier in kansas last week?

  • I'm sure it's portable and super convenient to download e-books into your kindle at your finger tips as opposed to physically go to bookstores (or even Wal-Mart) and pick up one, but I don't know... I probably wouldn't give up books yet because it gives a true sense of entitlement to those books that I have read in the past and present instead of something that doesn't necessarily exist physically unless it's printed off as as a hard copy. Hope that your pre-judgement doesn't change. We'll see.

  • Interesting!

Real Books are tough to beat...

  • NERDGIRL. . FTW!!!

  • Old people promote E-books. They think all the kids love lo be in front of screens. Arnold wants to get rid of paper books in schools.

    Argh!

Text + Light Emitting display device = EYE STRAIN!

I get add strain just looking at videos. Sitting down and reading dozens and hundreds of pages of text in one sitting is going to be painful.

    Paper all the way.

  • Maybe you should read up a little bit on the current wave of ereaders before commenting.

The Kindle doesn't use an LED display. The e-paper display does not emit light. It, like paper, is viewed using ambient/reflected light. It only consumes power when the display is updated, eg, you go to the next page.

  • Sounds like an interesting concept. I wouldn't assume that this is meant as a replacement for books so much as a supplement, just as freeways are a supplement for surface roads. Anyway, I'm glad you posted this, as I probably never would've heard of the Amazon Kindle otherwise.

  • It's cool having so many books in one device, but I don't know why I like the feel of a real book. I know that Kindle is better when you put the props vs the cons, but again I like the feel of a book. For some reason I just like going to a book store and browsing throw books and then buying one that catches my eyes. I don't get the same fuzzy feeling form downloading them. I do tell you this, it's great for schools books, like history and junk, but not the cool English ones.

  • OMG YOU GOT SCAMMED.

  • I have Kindle for iPhone and absolutely LOVE it. One of the absolute best apps I have on my iPhone. I dunno what I'd do without it now.

  • you go to church?? what a turn off. unsubscribe time

  • I like that I can go look at my book shelf and see all the books I have read and others the same. So I think if I had the kindle I would still end up buying both. so really it would just be redundant. now for text books on it, I think it would be awesome. no more stacks of texts books. (I think with that in mind it would be great for a teacher to be able to pass out any books they require. thoguh that would also be bad in its own way.

  • Thanks for posting this. I look forward to your review.

  • The Amazon Kindle is amazing...I've used one and E-ink is crazy.

  • Kindle 1 or 2?

  • Kindle 2!

  • Wow, it's quite loud out.

  • What does the feista have to do with a kindle?

  • totally respect your approach (opinion before opening) ...although i disagree with the opinion :)

maybe this will help me, i'm thinking about getting a Kindle myself... i may do a Book-Kindle hybrid thing

  • The kindle will hold 1500 books. But how long will it run between charges or battery changes? Can you read it outside? What happens when you splash water on it? Or get sand on it? Or drop it? How many times can you drop a book before it gets damaged?

Do you honestly prefer to read a computer screen rather than a real printed page? I get so tired of the 1024x768 world - I spend all day looking using it at work.

Products like this have been around for 20 years and have gone nowhere.

  • get a bigger monitor then you won't haveto deal with 1024x 768 maybe 1900x 1200 is more fitting

  • Interesting :)

    Rock on !

  • Yes, that was my concern, b/c I have about 1490 book in my house and I was not sure if the kindle could handle it.

  • With Obama in office, this is what you have to Vblog about? Does this mean your political views are over now that Obama has been elected????

  • tbh when I started watching her she 'didnt have' a politcal view, I watched because she was cool and just like me. I frankly am glad the polotics thing is done, as that was the one interest I didnt share with her. (and it felt like watching the news which to me is boring) I like the old interesting MJ that we have gotten back!

  • I loved the politics and hearing her views on them. They were a big reason that I started watching.

  • Hey. Great Book! Your place or mine? Why didn't I think of that?

Bet Moses would have preferred the Kindle to the Tablets!

  • I agree, traditional books win. Seeing as though people are already carrying around a Notebook and usually some kind of i{hone or Blackberry, is it really neccessary to add another thing to carry around? Couldn't they make it software based for a Notebook? IDK - I've never even been tempted by it.

  • excellent.

i have the same perspective as you, so i look forward to your follow up

  • Hey Melissa! The free wireless internet was the feature that almost sold me on it. But then I used one and found it slow and difficult to navigate. And I like to highlight and make notes in books too. I've also got mixed feelings on the screen, so in your review I'd be interested to hear if you find it better than a laptop for reading. So I'm interested to hear your opinion once you've had a chance to try it out!

  • I do prefer physical books myself.

  • hmm.
