This is an example of being so good Mr. Benson has forgotten more than a lot of us will learn. The world of Guitar was not built on just Shredding and Pentatonics, but a real function of Skill,Technique and Application.I have watched this Video for hours,(I have the actual DVD btw),and I get something new every time.Get the sheet music,(with Tabs if you cannot read),and view his explanation until you can follow his every move.Maybe you will learn not to mimic Mr Benson but play in your own voice.
if your struggling to understand and learn anything from this then go back a few stages and memorise your chords your scales, just learn where the notes are on the fretboard and then youll pick some stuff up from this GOD of music..
I think that some players coming here to learn how to play a song will be sorely disappointed, but those looking to further their learning of music will be greatly rewarded. Lots of the concepts he is relating in these vidios aren't commonly taught in music theory lessons. This is priceless.
George I always wanted to thank you for what you taught me at Don Clendenons at my table back in 1973.It changed my life and helped me understand jazz overall.this was back in the'white rabbit'days and it took me over 10 years to be able to use it but I still use it today. You are great! thanks again. Will
We have to remember, GB was originally an R & B singer from the age of 4 yrs old...his very early stuff like on "Benson Burner" was pure R&B (REAL R'n'B not the commercial stuff that passes today).
Benson, I love the voicing to the Beach boys surfing USA... I also read in a article that Barney Kessel did most of the Guitar studio recording on the first Beach boys album.
Interesting...two note blues playing and jazz bebop west coast playing harmonies.
@phxaztuber , I met George and he said that people always think of the Beach Boys when he demonstrates this but he was actually referring to "Sweet Little Sixteen" by Chuck Berry. The Beach Boys changed the lyrics and recorded this song after Chuck without compensating him.

It's hard for many like GB to explain a concept that is part of their personality.
Martin Taylor has said the same thing i.e. '' i don't think about playing from an academic p.o.v.'''
It's more down to ear training and trial & error.
