@F1zzzy90 Renault FT-17 is French tier 1 tank. First produced in 1917 and used in WW1.

@Fudbot i doubt they will include japanese or italian tanks. Mostley because they wernt ever big players in terms of tank battles. I dont think the japanese even made heavy tanks in any significant numbers.

@qusaisaher The USSR could and did defeat the Germany. Blitzkrieg didn't work in the cities and the Russian commanders were better at fighting block by block. The Russians also had way more men(after the battle of Kursk the Russians replaced their hundreds of thousands of casualties instantly while the Germans could not replace their experienced men) ,support from the US and Britain and were only fighting on one front. The Russian winter played only a small part in the defeat of Germany.

@pheetay13 Actually, the winter played a huge part. Thousands of men were killed and machinery seized up or got bogged down, or lost in snow drifts. Sometimes it went as low as -60 C, without winter kit that's Hell on Earth. Men froze to death sitting up.

I see your point, and I probably should have said that it was not the only factor rather than just a small part. I simply was trying to explain to qusaisaher (who need to work on his grammar) that it was not god that allowed the Russians to defeat the Germans.

@pheetay13 The Russians lost many, many more men than the Germans in WWII. While the Germans did get beaten back by the Soviets, the efficiency on a soldier by soldier basis was hugely in favor of the German army. The Soviet strategy basically consisted of throwing away as many men as it took to take a position.

The Russians did not have the training, equipment or artillery/armour/air support that the Germans had, but they had numbers and the ability to replenish then, and they used it to their advantage.

@pheetay13 the winter actually played a major role, german tanks and soldiers not being adapted to those kinds of temperature. And there were a lot more downsides, but there was only germany vs ussr germany would ve won no doubt.

@rune4help @chamagurka Didn't want to type 3 replies. Firstly Stalin being the commander in chief is irrelevant, the Russians won anyway. Secondly getting to Moscow does not mean they would have won, Russia is big place. Napoleon got to Moscow. Did he win? The German advance was stopped by Stalingrad and Kursk, the Russians were the first army to stop the Blitzkrieg, and that was before the winter really set in.

@pheetay13 so when I talk about Russian logistics, I especially mean its railroads - all lines led to Moscow and none of the lines used the same track widths, so transferring lines was a bitch - that's why when Russia declared war in 1914, Germany attacked its ally, France (see Schlieffen Plan). Anyways, you also think taking Moscow meant jack shit - disagree: taking the capital city of the USSR in 1941 would have destroyed the Soviet organization. The nation would have collapsed politically.

@KamikazeHunter1944 What I have been trying to basically say (my arguments have been kind of disjointed) is that Germany did not lose simply because of the winter ruining their invasion, but because they were not properly prepared for an invasion of Russia. I think that Germany's greatest mistake was invading Russia when they did. I still disagree about Moscow, using the Napoleon reference again, he believed that taking Moscow would cause the Russian government to collapse, but it did not.

@KamikazeHunter1944 But I do agree that I have minimized the importance of the Winter. I think that rather than causing the defeat of Germany, it sped it up. As you said, Blitzkrieg was ineffective in Russia, so the Germans should have adapted. While I understand your WW1 reference (btw Germany declared war not Russia), Russia in 1914 was centuries behind Russia in 1941 in terms of industrialization. Germany attacked France as they thought that could defeat France before Russia mobilized.

@pheetay13 No no sorry I misplaced my timing and point - WWI was to show the Schlieffen plan to show the poor militarization capabilities of Russia because of the infrastructure; That, combined with the purges, still applied in '41. That's the WWI reference. And you're completely right - Germany didn't prepare for Winter, but the timing for the fight was adequate - perhaps they should have invaded earlier if they didn't want winter gear. But Napoleon moved slowly, German tanks still stormed 'Rus

@branza27 If you want to take over Russia (probably impossible) you cannot be fighting on other fronts.The best armies are the strongest AND the smartest, the German army (in Russia at least) was not. Yes the German army was stronger, and in most situations would win. But not in Russia. For the Germans to win they would have had to commit more to the fight, make better decisions and move faster. Yes the winter hurt the Germans, but by the time it did they had already lost.

@pheetay13 you are right,the more you advance in russian territory,the harder it gets to conquer. and the german soldiers were not ready for cold temperatures,they actually went to russia in summer wears . Germans were certainly not prepared to face ussr in their territory

@pheetay13 and @branza27 Also, the USSR defied Blitzkrieg strategies, to an extent, because Russia was geographically and logistically unsound; Blitz tactics were designed for Western Europe where roads and plains were maintained and well mapped. Russia on the other hand used inconsistent rail lines and most of the roads were not well maintained. Yes, the Blitz worked greatly during Barbarosa because of a core fact: the Soviets were unprepared. But, logistically it was hard to fight in

@pheetay13 I agree with your statement on the whole, however you're shorting the significance of winter in '41 - when the fall rains and winter snows stalled the German advances, the Soviet commanders consolidated their forces against the Germans who were as far as the Moscow suburbs. Also, the Far-East garrison was given time to reinforce the lines and this fresh force, combined with existing units, allowed the Soviets to counter-attack. Arguably, winter saved the USSR from defeat.

It allso is unfair because I have a Panzerjager 1 and I get put up against JadgPz IVs and all the heavy tanks and when I am in an M2 Mediem Tank I get put up against all the heavy tanks I might aswell just not bother.
