@BAIYUE1 hokkienese is taiwanese but slightly different its kind of like irish english and american english
most ppl can speak mandarin because everybody have to learn it at school now soo~ the population who only speak taiwanese (like my grandma) is getting less and less.
i think by 75% they mean "understand but may not be able to speak fluently"
and !!i think the %of ppl who actually use taiwanese as their first language in taiwan is now less than 30%
@BAIYUE1 i think young ppl still know the language but they just dont use it as often as older taiwanese ppl
for example when i go to a buy something (somewhere like the store in the video) to eat, the owner often speak taiwanese and i will just answer them in mandarin i think as long as taiwanese exist the language is not going anywhere + we have taiwanese classes in grade 3 4 5
ps most green party ppl speak taiwanese or hakka and a lot of southern taiwanese ppl do too
@BAIYUE1 that's because in Hong Kong, Cantonese is the language of instruction in schools and media, so they are able to read and write Catonese Chinese. In Taiwan, Mandarin is the language of instruction in schools and the majority of media, relegating Taiwanese to more or less a spoken language status. When people read and write Chinese in Taiwan, they can usually only read and write it with Mandarin pronunciation.
I like as you call them chats, it's nice that you continue on with a conversation or topic but a new locations each time. It keeps it interesting and I get to see you use the language in a real world setting.
Yum, that looks really really good! I like the FLR method because it is realistic for communication right when you start a language. I want to actually be able to talk with people right away.
Toilet paper!! That's really funny.

So why Cantonese can protect their language so good despite of mandarin?
while Hokkienese can't do it as cantonese.
I know has some professor in taipei who are trying to maintain hokkien language, and hokkien culture.
But i think it is not enough,it is depend young hokkienese as you.
Do you think about it?
