I did a huge paper back at Hunter College--making comparisons with both Huey P. and George Wallce (D-ALA)..took the causes they espoused-lined them up with the far letf and center-left politicians of the day...and, BINGO, THE BOTH OF THEM LINED UP SQUARELY WITH THE CENTER/LEFT...and more left than Center!

A comparable ADA Ratin g of 88% for Huey P. and Wallace got an 82%..

What this country needs is another HUEY LONG! I mean that as a compliment to the man who saw the injustice of both the Democrats and Republicans!! He wanted all Americans (Just like Teddy Roosevelt, What I would give for another T.R.!!) to be able to share in the American Dream. No need for people living in the greatest country to be in poeverty, starve, go w/o decent healthcare, or have to walk the streets in fear of crime. He scared the hell out of both the Republicrats and is needed today!!

@nicodagger I'm confused. Beck constantly bashes Obama and the Bushes and other progressives. Yet not ONCE has he EVER mentioned Huey Long. He may not be socialist (Long was vehemently against socialism, actually) but he was for wealth redistribution nonetheless.

Beck would also call him a fascist dictator, which is partly true, since Long DID develop some dictatorial qualities, if I read right.

For a good objective bio of Long, watch Ken Burns' "LONG" DVD. I actually knew many of Long's friends and associates. It was a love/hate relationship. Someone like Long was bound to come along just like Hitler in Germany.

There's a good movie about Huey called "King Fish". John Goodman plays him very well.(Although, I havent seen it since I was a kid.) Every time someone starts talking about southern conservatism, I think about Huey and have hope. Solidarity F.W.
