@Johnmeadowcourt correct me if I'm wrong, but it seemed like most of your krumphaus were going to the opponent's blade. Is this your school's interpretation of the cut, or a safety practice? Also, a comment about your footwork - it seems like you only ever do advancing steps. At my group we always practiced the krumphau with an out step rather than a direct step.
@mkozachek in the 2nd part of the video we have 4 examples of "wirff den ort auf die hende" if that is the case. about the footwork, we practice every kind of stepping and rather let us not limit on one way. I would be careful with interpreting "wol auff dein rechte seitten" though, you can do a krumphau in may ways. Even the camera angle may be misleading.
@ElArteDeLaFuga if we were to engage in a freefight I wouldn`t hesitate a moment, since this is a demonstration of prepared and controlled exercises I wouldn`t mind showing it in a swimming suit :)
Anytime someone tells me that realistic longsword fencing wouldn't look good in movies, I show them this. If the "one stroke victory" stuff worked for the great old Akira Kurasawa films, explain to me why western sword epics need to include a minimum of 3 minutes of edge-bashing per fight?
I'm a practitioner of KdF from Australia, and I must say that I love your videos. The group I'm with, the Glenn Lachlan College of Arms, do our own research and interpretation, and we've made a similar interpretation of the martial art. It's good to know that somewhere out there, on the other side of the world, someone else is thinking the same things as us. :D
Tech question: so you noticed that it's best to hit the opponent's sword with the krump without stepping? Is this derived from practice or is it implied somewhere in the old manuals?
@maeljin hi. we practice both of the possibilities, I`m not sure if it is mentioned somewhere explicitely, but for example if you read Danzig, in his krump zu fleche stuck he doesn`t mention stepping at all. Ofc that does not mean we shouldn`t do it. I would say that it depends on intention, distance and tempo
Another notable thing about the video is the control used. Fast attacks but light contact, done very nicely. Fast doesn't have to mean a lot of impact. It's nice to see people drill at high speed with steel but in a way that is safe and controlled, but without huge artifacts creeping into the techniques used. Well done.
@BuscoBeast Hi, it was bought in a regular sports store, but I`m sure some googling will do. However I do not recommend them for sparring, as they are quite softly padded
Hey my friends ! Verry nice fencing's techniques. Still are a new great vid for beginers in medieval fencing and all people was interresting to ancien fecing. Thanks !
@SamGCampbell thanks! the intermezzo is just what I saw when I closed my eyes listening to that music (unlike the main protagonist of Clockwork Orange:))
@MarkHolgate thanks! there was a lot of stepping into distance, but that adding that to the video would double the duration. But nothing special, kinda normal walking or running (rushing) in:)
@johnmeadowcourt know what you mean. i'm personally more and more interested in that particular phase of the fight, and i think it's often neglected - we rush straight to krieg and neglect the approach which is a critcal part of the vorshlag. that would make a video of it's own, though, and not one which as exciting as this one - except perhaps to serious fencer!
@johnmeadowcourt Thankyou very much! I found a link freifechter com/artwork.cfm for more of the same source. It is excellent
