  • You nailed this! Great job.

  • Damn your good :)

  • Nice version. Thank you!

  • Open G can be that (D G D G B D) tuning. I play that way in this song, although I am likely a semi-tone lower.

I now play the song (G G D G B D). If you play it that way you'll notice how true it is when you move the notes up the neck with the 6th string playing open G and the note on the 5th moving up the neck.

If you drop the 1st string down to a B it sounds truer to the recording.

  • Im trying to figure this out... I thought open g tuning was D G D G B D

  • Well done bro, I fingered this one out when I was first learning to play. I loved the song so much that It was literally one of the first five songs that I ever learned. This old hippie showed me the tuning but not the song, he told me that I had to feel it and he was right, I did. I was pissed that he didn't just teach me the chords but if he had then I would have learned nothing. Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.

  • Beautifully done! Happy 40th birthday to Meddle!

  • Ok so your ideo has been a blessing. I just need a little help with that bridge.. Cn you tell me the notes you are playing to achieve this? I've tried to pick it out but I'm missing something.

  • Nice hat. Where do you pick one up like that?

  • Totally Awesome. You capture the essence of the song. I am wowed....

  • @mfwilli you're right it's a superb version that has the difficult to define essence but he really does capture it. Loved the version of The Kinks 'Big Sky' too done by the same artist.

  • Thank you... I really enjoyed your version. The guitar was damn near note for note and th vocals were ver nice. You kept it simple yet made it your own. As Floydian, I thank you or the show. My 10 year old is going to love this.

  • so awesome open G

  • wow, amazing... You´re very talented...

  • Beautiful...thank you. Keep sharing the gift.

  • Very well done! Please what is the tabs for the last few chords in the song?

  • great sound on the guitar, is it a martin d-28?

  • so sweet goosebumps everytime

  • Amazing.

  • Perfect body just perfect

  • This is an awesome post on YouTube. This is the best cover of this song that I have ever seen in my life. You take no shortcuts and deliver this song in a manner that gives me goosebumps! The presentation, the acoustics and the action displayed with the guitar have certainly inspired me to at least try and duplicate your work. You make it look easy and I know for a fact that it is not. What untapped talent? Thank you so much! -Chris

  • Best cover of this song by far. Well done man.

  • Awesome!

this is THE song of my childhood... thanks for the LOVE my man, first round is on me...

  • My absolute favorite song on the planet. Thanks for the rockin' cover. Well done, man

  • Good job. 8.5/10.

  • Too flat!. Needs to be open G. Too many people make that mistake. 5 stars anyway.

  • Dude, you play and sing this really well! the strumming pattern is difficult and you do a really good job!

  • I have to say after years of procrastinating to learn guitar your playing in this song has inspired me to try to learn this song. Your other songs are indeed excellent. We seem to have the same musical tastes" the gunners dream" and "south hamptom docks" were the other song i always wanted to learn. Thank you so much for being so talented and inspiring people to play. Btw this is the first comment I have ever made on youtube. Never felt like anything was worth it.

  • awesome hat. i want one like that.

  • For Those interested in the correct tuning - A quote from Roger Waters: "What's interesting about it, for me, is that it's interesting musically: (hums riff). Funnily enough, that was a tuning that Syd showed me. It's a really beautiful open G tuning, for anybody who wants to tune their guitar: G-G-D-G-B-B."

  • Thanks, tried it that is totally it. The outside 4 strings doubling the same notes.

  • @palbolt Good job man and you sound like David Gilmour

  • @OhioFive0 I've always played the tune in open G, but it sounds good with that tuning and it could be exact.

  • D G D G B G, open G

  • you got a very nice voice...;)

I can't judge you guitar skills because it is pretty easy to play...;)

  • You win, after watching a dozen covers of this here trying to fig out easiest way to cover it myself... good job.

  • Fantastic!

  • Fantastic!

  • awesome! how 2 people didn't like this I'll never know - must not be floyd fans.

  • Damn nice right there!

  • very nice

    a beautiful piece of music

  • can you help me with the tuning!

  • Gb is a semi-tone lower then G. You can play it in G if you want though. I do, just not in this video.

  • Awesome Video. Any chance you can help me out with the tuning you are using. I can't seem to get it. What is a G flat tuning? Thanks in advance!

  • Thanks for the help! Awesome song and really good cover!

  • straight into my favourites...

  • hey mister with the blue hat! great job man!!

  • can you share your strumming pattern for the vocals

  • cool!

  • Outstanding!!!

  • Nice... Very Refreshing.... loved it !

  • I do essentially the same thing, but my voice is lower so open C instead of G. The figure you play B-C-D-E-F#-G has a dominant feel in your version, with low G underneath, tonic in open C.

  • great dude great voice

  • I really enjoyed listening to this.

  • Excellent!

  • Very good.

  • nice. you did a great job. ive been wanting to learn this.

    great voice by the way.

  • BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!! im just startin to learn this one,

  • Well done! I have a question about how you play the intro after you strum the open G to start the whole song. It looks like you play a note with your middle finger on the 2nd string. Do you play two notes on that string before going to the 5th? Sorry if too confusing but I'm trying to get this song down pat and watching your video has been a big help, thanks.

  • Thanks.

If you are taking about after the harmonic strum on the 12th fret, the climb up is the 2 fingers on the 5th and 3rd string 4,5,7,9,11,12 frets. Others play it differently likely the same notes but an octave higher. Both correct I think, however I'm in G flat.

  • GREAT JOB PAL !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice...Done Better than me!!!

  • Really nice. By the way, what kind of mic are you using? I have a shitty webcam and the mic sucks. I'm wondering if I plug in a separate mic, will it over ride the webcam mic.

  • Thanks. I'm using the mic from the camera, mono, nothing else. The camera is a Casio Exilim 8.1 Mega pixels. I paid $250 last year for it. I move it around to get the best balance of voice and guitar. If the singing is low, like "Have a drink on me", I have the camera mounted on a tripod with bendable legs I can wrap around the neck of the guitar. I cut the video with Avidemux software which is freeware.

  • Sounds good man!

  • such an awesome song. you nailed it nice job.

  • nice arrangement. very cool. think ill try it in open g, as i HATE c chords in the open position.

  • Congratulations for your video !!!

When you have a little time and if you wish, please, watch and avaliable my video !!!

    Best Regards

    Roger from Brazil

  • Really good

  • well done.

  • Dude. awesome

  • oh never mind - open g i hear

  • What tuning is this in?

  • that was awesome!!!! great job man

  • Nice job man.... be proud.

  • Superb vocals, makes my version look like shit.

  • nice job 5 star all the way old floyd fan here

  • thanks for my morning Floyd fix that'll keep me goin' for the show

  • wow. this is good. 5 stars all the way!!!!!!!!!!

  • Encore!!!

  • Great job! You kept the integrity of the song. I hate it when guys butcher this song. This is my 2nd fave from The Floyd.

  • What can I say? Umm! 5 Stars man. You nailed it!!!!

  • Teriffic stuff!!

  • nice job. I always like this song. It's inspirational yet with hints of cynicism that we face the world today.

Now, can you climb the hills? Only the fool who's wearing the crown, smiling... *HAHAHA*

  • open g tuning?

  • G flat

  • @palbolt what is exactly G flatplease? I know open G (DGDGBD) but not this one

  • nice and crisp nice. you are the best. nice job singing too. 5 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • me too. I would like to cover echoes. I play it on my acoustic, but I still need some work...

  • Thanks. It's a Washburn, with 6 strings amputated. "Meddle" is a great album. I eventually want to learn "San Tropez". Don't know if that'll work out. Maybe "Echoes"!

  • Another great cover!!

I like your cover of this song, I also like the fact that you cover songs of pink floyd that nobody knows about...

What brand is your guitar? It sounds sweet in an open G tuning...

  • your chords ane crisp and clear.. great job!!!!

  • did that hat come with a free bowl of soup?

  • Thanks for the comment fuckface.

If there's an offer out there by the good people at Campbells let me know.

Your profile would suggest that you need a lot of instructions on what should come naturally.

If you ever have both hands free pick up a guitar and tune back if you want to learn.

  • brilliant mate, i love the sound of open tunings. Makes me want a decent acoustic!

  • I love, you've inspired me and I just started playing it in open F#. One of my favorite songs.

  • this is excellent :)

    shine on.

  • Very nice job . . .

  • Excellent!

  • Thanks. It's open F#. I find most things easier to sing a semi-tone down. All my tunings are down the half step.

  • Nice work! what open tuning are you using for the song?
