Thierry Mugler A*Men (Angel Men) Taste of Fragrance (Pure Chili) Cologne / Fragrance Review

I enjoy this frag. Definitely spice red pepper cherry booze coffee. It is unique. Warming, actually a calming effect. Good for a Sunday, laid back afternoon watching a Jazz Guitarist kind of day. Good stuff here.

It sounds very good , i din't like the crazy projection on A*men and Pure Malt , so i guess that makes this more versatile? i was expecting something stronger for Pure Havane i didn't get any tobacco just honey, I think after all the hype with Pure Malt people are just being to har on the new Thierry Mugler flankers , i don't mind if they keep releasing Pure something forever.

I went to Nordstrom, smelled it, then sprayed it on my hand & I must say that this was probably the most intense colognes I've ever smelled in my whole life. I read this review before trying it, but this review does this cologne no justice. It's very shocking to the nose smelling almost EXACTLY like red peppers. But @twjmusicgroup is right. When it dies down, it smells exactly like the original Angel Men. It's not an everyday cologne for sure; only for special occasions.

Can you give a few names of the fragrances you said you could almost devovour? They sound the ones I want. I have had it with Thierry Mugler, they just put old wine in a new bottle or cask as was the case with Pure Malt, with a hint of this a hint of that.

First of all great review

I have this bottle since mid-september. For some reason it came out super early here in Canada. Being a lover of a-men, pure malt and havane i was pretty dissapointed initially. I gave this a week or two without wearing it and am actually enjoying it quite a bit now. I am getting the coffee more and am less overwhelmed with the chilli as before. Compared to all the other flankers it's not great, but it is growing on me. Great job nailing this one!

It's available at Nordstrom, I didn't get to smell it because they had no tester, only the actual bottles.

I do agree with you bro.....Mugler is being lazy under its men's fragrances. Nothing outstanding coming from the company since A*Men. Time to create one.....totally new frag. Don't u agree???

I went to Nordstrom and the tester was stolen per the SA. I ended up blind buying it and man this stuff is nasty to me. $100 wasted. DON'T blind buy this!

Great review! Did you try out the salted butter caramel or cocoa infused flankers they had? I'm more interested in those than in the chilli one.

1st of all, do u honestly believe that a week is enough to give a full review?! 2nd, u yourself said that u might change ur mind when testing it in the Spring/Summer.. and personally, i don't think samples r good enough to make a full review, maybe a 1st impression

PLUS u havn't mentioned anything about compliments factor! 'cuz obviously 1 week is not enough for it.

Don't get me wrong man, you did an excellent job describing what the frag. smells like, i just wanted to give u an advice :)

@warever37 our tastes tend to evolve, but a week is more than enough time to try out a scent. The problem is that even with the added heat to boost projection, the scent just isn't appealing unlike its brothers It does away with all of the strong points of the rest of the series and doesn't add any benefits. Now, compliments are not mentioned not because a week is not enough, but because they CANNOT smell you the projection is so bad.

I don't think u should do a full review on this frag. cuz it's still BRAND NEW!, u should at least own it for a year to see the full effect of it in every season.

@warever37 Sorry but I don't agree with that line of reasoning. By that token, people who live in relatively constant climates would not have the right to review. A week's wearing is about the amount I give each Fragrance I have before I put it to paper. BTW, this was available for sample much earlier than this month, and Canadians got this sooner. (last month). Simply, this is either a bad winter fragrance to me, or an above average spring/summer one. Take Care!

This seems like a marketing plot to me.A*Men original smells delicious enough to eat, so how does putting chili in this one make this more delectable? This is just as ridiculous as Issey Miyake making a SUMMER FUCKING EDITION of their L'Eau de issey, WHICH IS ALREADY A SUMMER FRAGRANCE.

While I don't mind this, I already own Angel Men and Pure Malt..so I couldn't feel the need to purchase this. Plus, the chili thing I think I would skip over it and grab Pure Malt instead for those settings I would use it.

I actually liked the Alien or the Angel ones more than this.

A*men is the fragrance that I think defines whether you are overall REALLY into gourmand fragrances. I am one who sort of likes the smell and would wear it occasionally, but would probably never buy it. I like some gourmands, but I think there can be such a thing as too rich of (i.e. chocolatey, foody) in a gourmand.

This Pure Chili sounds interesting though--- I DO want to smell it.

Thanks for reviewing this dracdoc. I really like A*Men and its flankers and was wondering how this would be. I wonered if it would smell like a chocolate/chili truffle that you can get at a chocolate store?! lol.

So why would they use the exact same bottle as Bmen? Sounds like it would be very confusing, because of someone were to own this, and Bmen, they might accidnetally apply the wrong one.,,lol

@jreily88 Yah, I mis-spoke. Bmen is a dark grey with a red star, this one is black with a red star. Very similar but not exactly the same

ok. that being said, TM really needs to step it up a bit. Angel men was unique 15 years ago when it first came out, and pure malt and pure havane are great flankers (not as good as the original in my opinion), but I think it's time for TM to come out with something completely different. Maybe even move away from the gourmand side of things a little bit. It's almost as if he is just adding a couple of notes to each of the flankers, but keeping the same angel men DNA. Just my opinion.

Of course, I don't think he should COMPLETELY stop making gourmands because that's what sets him apart, but I agree he needs to make something that not only smells different than other fragrances, but also different from each other. Pure havane is actually quite different than the others, but it still has that angel men feel to it, which isn't bad, but it's just nice to have something different.

@shogunate83 I saw that yesterday too, they said to stay tuned for availability, I think they need to limit the amount that you can buy because people are buying 3 or 4 at a time and selling them for $150 on ebay which is BS
