  • Please find me on facebook (Chris tregoning) christhelurcher@yahoo.com

I bare huge simalaritys with this dog, I am all mixed up as to what I am, M&D call me a lurcher. Thanks lick woof xxx

  • Let me put it this way. My dog's mother was a Saluki and her Father was a Saluki and in my mind that makes her a Saluki. If anybody has a problem with that they can write to the kennel club. :-D

And then of course there's the fact that the the person who uploaded the video says the dog is a Saluki but what do they know? :-D

  • An AKC paper does mean squat when it comes to conformation. What titles does your dog hold? When did it last kill a gazelle? I have a feeling your dog is not as similar as you think. FYI: The owner posted that he calls it a Sloughi His confusion was understandable as the US still can't say Iraq or find it on a map! I suspect this is filmed on the Arabian Peninsula where mountain dogs are 100% worthless. Believe what you wish, what would those of us who spend time in the Middle East know anyhow?

  • @CoexistInPeace So what you are saying is that you know better that the KC, the breeders and the owners and the only dependable authority is you.

I have to admit she's never caught a gazelle but the my mate's deerhound has never caught a deer and I'm pretty sure my neighbour's Alsation has never even seen a sheep, German or otherwise. What a ridiculous argument.

You remind me of the know-alls who tell me with great authority my retired NGRC registered greyhound is a lurcher.

  • @longdog65

Actually, your arguments are more like the people telling you your dog is something else. Q6rmmm says he calls the breed a Sloughi. End of discussion.

  • @CoexistInPeace

    looooool

  • Frankly I'm not overly surprised that people who can't tell the difference between North/South/East & West Arabs, Persians, Kurds, Turks, Pashtuns etc of their own species can't see the difference between their dog and one built/bred separately for the past 7000 years

Someone actually asked does it live in a tent? No, The dog runs away every night & he has to chase it across the desert on his Bactrian Mountain camel, well unless, he's riding his water buffalo (of course!)

  • @kgp161

    hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • great!!! Longdog...believe you are wrong..this one is a Sloughi. Having lived here in the middle east and having close friends who breed both Salukis and Sloughis, this is a Sloughi. These desert dogs are always tan or white, to reflect the sun and heat. You can also tell by the tail and how delicate the bones are. q6rmmm...great dog!!

  • Sorry to upset the self-proclaimed dog experts but that looks like a smooth coat Saluki to me. In fact I have one exactly the same.

What a beautiful saluki :)

  • haha, so cute

  • very good video i really lick it hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Saluki ears= longer than its chin

    Sloughi ears= shorter than chin

Saluki chest=dips down to elbows then gently angles up in a straight line

Sloughi chest=does not reach elbow, goes straight back for a bit behind the front legs then sharply angles up to stomach

    Saluki front=collarbone barely noticeable

    Sloughi front=collarbone is obvious

Saluki topline=straight back, with prominent hipbones at rear

Sloughi topline=straight back, hipbones nearly hidden

  • i liked this video :)

I NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO Rt

  • and i like u

  • seems to be a nice place, the dogs sleep outside in the desert? yes i´d say a good looking saluki...

  • Well yes.. its in a Arabic country in the desert I would presume... its nothing wrong with that at all.

Great video.. love the Salukis.. would love to have one one day.

  • this is a good smooth saluki , not azawak or sloughi , even if they also call saluki sloughi .. but this is a nice smooth saluki , original desert breed ...

  • Its not a Saluki, the magneficant features are not to see at this one,I would say its a Azawakh or a Sloughi!!!WONDERFUL CREATURE!!!!

  • maby u have another names but i know this is an oregenal desert dog

and we say Sloughi like u sid

  • He's such a cutie! My Afghan Hound (Tazi) does the same thing if she hears high pitched noises.

Lots of people mistake the Sloughi for a smooth coated Saluki. However, they are two different breeds, the English names are the same as the Arabic.

Your boy is a DEFINITE 100% Sloughi! In fact, I'd REALLY love to see videos of him moving, both at a 'jog' (a little quicker than a walk) and again as fast as he can run.

I'll write another post, so you'll know the differences too!

  • thaxxx my frind for this informiton

    and u willcom anytime

  • Have to disagree and say the pooch in this clip is 100% smooth coat Saluki. To be fair I'm not 100% sure why I think so but in my view the head is subtly different in shape, the dog doesn't have the usual (if not obligatory) darker muzzle, and there's something about the way the dog stands which is hard to define. The clincher for me is that it is a dead ringer for my dog. Obviously you're entitled to your opinion even if you are quite obviously wrong ;-) PS: Sloughi are gorgeous dogs too :-)

  • @longdog65 Well interestingly enough, if you take a very close look at the dog, and its tail, you will find it is a Sloughi. Having lived here in the Middle East and having close friends who breed both Salukis and sloughis, this one is a Sloughi. Who knows, perhaps YOU have a Sloughi and don't know it! Desert dogs, the original ones, are always light tan or white, to reflect the sun. The darker ones are usually from other areas that actually get cooler weather, such as Lebanon or Syria.

  • I'll make this a little easier for the Middle East impaired :-D Arabian Greyhounds=Azawakhs & Sloughis from the Arabian & African deserts while Persian Greyhounds=Afghans (Kabuls/Baluchis/Tazis) & Salukis from the Mountains around the Caspian...capiche?

You are looking at a gorgeous example of one of the oldest dog breeds on Earth in it's native setting. Who cares if it catches dinner? It does not have an "obligatory mask" (OR match your furniture!)...such a genius should go into politics

  • @fatima7486

It's been a while I know and by know you probably know but it is a saluki, there's the feathered and smooth type, this is the latter

  • Beautiful Saluki, if a little unsure!

  • MUY BUENO JAJA ME GUSTO MUCHO...

  • Possibly аwazak?

  • A smooth Saluki!!!

  • the saluki not sure about this, very good

  • Brilliant!! Very funny!!
