  • My father-inlaw is buried on top of the hill where you filmed, I never ran across any strange ghostly happenings, but then again I didn't stay there that long. • i live in ashtabula, ohio and im 14 years old recently ive been reasearching the train disaster and i went to the cemetary to pay my respects to the victims of the 1876 train disaster and i felt like i was being followed the whole time

  • @APratt12345 Its not the first time we've heard that about this location...Thanks for watching

  • My dad had passed in 01 and he's buried there. I always go up to visit whenever I get the chance. I never go alone b/c it's just way 2 creepy. I had vistied the stones that had the #'s on them. As I was walking closer to them, it felt like I was being followed. And I thought my friend was messing with me. He wasn't, every few ft I look back and he's standing there. I had an uncomfortable feeling as I approached closer. I never went near them again.

  • @adamemery2008 This is one creepy place I'll agree with u..We've heard so many stories like yours about this cemetery,,Thx for ur comment

  • Ive been there many times taking videos on just my cell phone camera and have seen many faces. I've seen many faces on your videos as well. I do believe they are all there looking for their loved ones...thank you for coming here.

  • When i was visiting family in ashtabula a couple years ago we went to the cemetery and on our way driving up the hill we saw a man with his shit off smoking sitting next to one of the small buildings....When we parked and got out he was gone....we were at the top of the hill so we had a full view and he was no where to be found....

  • @D12DetroitD12 interesting...we've heard a number of stories about this place...thx for watching...

  • omg...i was just there and how could i not know about this!!!!! O.o

  • I've investigate that cemetery and no activity.now the real place to check out is the bridge.

  • Quesion I am really interested in this type of stuff and was thinking of doing some ghost hunting in the summer. I live in Kent right now, and am gonna be here until the end of the school year in May. Would you guys be interested in joining me, or vice versa if you guys are going anymore ghost, after I return home? I'm from Jefferson so let me know.

  • @buckeye10014 right now we are booked but cheek out the local paranormal spots there in Kent, there are quite a few..... thx for watching.....

  • If you want haunted places try Hubbard House. it was recently for sale. I was thinking about buying it so I had a paranormal photographer take some photos. It was amazing. 1 or 2 orbs on the house and grounds however there were quite a few in the attic of all places. The house was built in 1840.

  • thx we may do that...thz for watching...

  • the guy who designed the bridge did not commit suicide. The bridge inspector who ok-ed the bridge 1 day before the colapse did. His name was Collins. He shot himself on the second floor of the Collins building on Main Ave in Ashtabula.

  • thx u....

  • This cemetray is bogus. Cant tell you how many times I've been here with no paranormal activity.

  • I've been to many places several times and never saw a thing, then one day I did...thx for watching...

  • @Thrashkid97 lol i've been to Mackinac Island and been hearing it's haunted and didn't experience anything lol but maybe my mind was too excited to notice or not those type of people that can see these things and kinda glad of it lol i rather not see it lol

  • My friends and I took a roadtrip to Ashtabula last summer but couldn't find this place. Instead we stayed up all night and chilled at Walnut Beach. I wish I lived in Ashtabula but I live about 1 1/2 hours away in the Canton area.

  • You should try again it's worth the trip..Thx for watching...

  • I live by this place and it is haunted, if you go there at night you can see figures walking around in the distance. we also heard a girl sceam in the middle of the night with nobody else around.

  • I agree, one of the spookest cemeteries I've been in at night, we saw and heard strange things the entire time.. Thx for your comment and watching

  • @216mushroomhead I had the same thing happen with a girl screaming

  • those are great stories and adds to the over all feel of the place.... thanks for watching....

  • The author of this video and I have grandparents buried here. Sis

  • thx for watching

  • The train you head is on the same rail line that the bridge disaster occurred on. Today it is CSX's Lake Shore mainline between New York and Chicago. (former Conrail, Penn Central, and New York Central as well). It is very eerie that train horns from that tracks that these people perished on can be heard from their graves. Interesting video!

  • thx u for ur comment and watching,,API

  • I am from the Ashtabula area and there are two things i need to say, There is a train and bridge near the cemetery and the disaster happened 2-3 miles down the road.

  • yes we know this thx for watching..your town is awesome..!!

  • have you ever been attacked by a spirit/demon???

  • Touched yes, attacked no

  • Sounds like a thrill to do and experience tho, i've always wanted to do it. :D love your vids.

  • thx u so much...

  • Great video

    5 and fave*****

  • Thx so much, hope u can continue to enjoy our videos..

  • This is a very interesting situation...if it were not for the train disaster, I wouldn't have my job at the hospital. It was only because of the accident that Ashtabula General Hospital (Currently ACMC) was built!

  • Interesting, I never knew that,,thanks

  • You mean they built the place the day of the disaster?

  • oh my god! in a cemetery in my town theres a grave of a train accident from dec 24 1874!

  • Do u live in ohio

  • no. i live in england.

  • Thats wild same thing same time,,small world..

  • BTW the train wreck site isnt behind the cemetary. There is a sign dedicated to the tragedy in front of the hospital by the parking lot. The cemetary is like miles away.

  • thx

  • Why don't you go to the actual train wreck site? They rebuilt the bridge and trains pass over it everyday. It's just behind the hospital, and you can access it right off St. Mary's Street Hill. It's like a five min walk.

  • Yes we know this and have planed to visit. Thank you for your comment and watching..

  • How did you gain access to that material? I wonder if the "Star Beagle" was approached they'd do a story on those new ideas. I also wonder if the cemetery records for the death are changed. I'm not sure how publicly accessible those would be if they even would be.

  • Thanks for the comment here is a little info you don't know Mr.Collins did not kill himself we got a hold of the death certif/it was closed by the RR for 100 years well we got it and there were more people on that train then what the RR told about also.

  • interesting,,nice work,,

  • You shouldn't have moved around so much we are up there aften the ghost wont come up too you if you are moving all the time and there is a train by the cemetery and one over on the other side from Sherry at Ohio Ghost Researchers you should see our pic from there.

  • We were here for hours, we sat at one point for 45 min doing evp work. We understand just what you mean.. We'll stop by your page and check your pics out soon.. thanks for watching..

  • just went here..not bad. pause yr video n mess with 2:28 u might be able to see sumn

  • Have you researched any other locations, Buz'?

About this one I'll add that a friend I see occasionally was there with some of his friends and once they went down over the hill to exit one asked the other about a certain dark mass he saw. The other guy had seen it, too. It was very dark out and tree covered so it was pretty difficult to have any shadow.

  • Hundreds of places,,from Ohio to Kentucky..

    Thanks for watching & comments..

  • I lived down the street from this cemetery/bridge my whole childhood up until I was 17 and have been there a lot. One time while I was there I kept hearing whistles and children playing but there was nobody around at all and I walked around for miles and hours and couldn't find the source. And it wasn't a train whistle, I checked and no train. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. It was very odd.

  • thats a great story, you should visit our web site and submit it to our ghost stories page and we will post it and give u full credit. Thanks for the comment & watching..

  • the train shit kinda scary lol

  • Me and my friend go up there almost everyday funny last time we went up there we found porn everywhere.

  • lol,,no ghost just porn,,rofl..amazing don't u think,,

  • i have had people stop me from out of town that came to a-town and ask me where this place was.. i have taken severel there creeepy at night

  • yes i agree, thanks for the comment

  • Very interesting vid. I've read some about the train accident on-line. I've often thought about visiting Johnstown PA on my travels back to my parent's house. I'm sure there's some sort of activity there as well. Peace...

  • I lived right down the street from there my whole life...Still do..lol..I luv stuff like this

  • It's amazing whats in our own back yards sometimes... Thanks so much for watching

  • I've never heard that. How did you find it out?

  • :O)

  • dont mean to be a jerk but you have all your facts messed up

charles collins did NOT commit suicide he was "MURDERED" the official autopsy report release just some 20 years ago indicates there shots in the room with one bullet that entered his skull

    thusly self defense

they only ruled suicide with hime because he neatly packed his clothes away

but he was going on a trip which rules suicide out

  • We work with haunting claims, urban legends and such, which may or may not be all that accurate. If I were looking at it from a history point of view then the research would have bee all together different. Know what I mean??? Thanks for watching..

  • Do you have documentation for this? Where did you get this information?

Most of all these issues I've covered in earlier posts. I've been to both locations several times and have been researching the topic for over 6 years now and have not heard or seen this from any source.

  • sashae (2 weeks ago)

  • How is it I've lived in Ashtabula County(Jefferson) my whole life and I've never heard of this.

    Thats pretty wild!

  • first let me say,,,go browns,,, then by all means go check it out. The cemetery is active and a very interesting place. We have plans in two month to come back to your town and go directly to the accident area.. Check it out..

  • Thank you for the video.

If you look at the moument you will find the name P.P.Bliss on it. he was the song writter of hyms. he was also my great great uncle. his wife lucy also died with him. they left two sons. the gulf where the train ended up is haunted.

    Rev.J.C.Bliss

  • Thank you for such kind words,,

  • on some nights you can hear people calling for help but as you know noone is there. but on the night of 26 dec it is most active. if you ever wish to go there email me and i will go with you.

    rev.j.c.b.

  • we may just do that because we looked that day we were there but kind of got lost. Thanks for the offer

  • Go there at night! This fool did his "research" during the day! And this cemetary is by far haunted and you will see occurances that you wont in any normal cemetary, take a digital camera! DO NOT SPEED IF STARTLED -ITS THE UNDEADS ATTEMPT TO WRECK YOU AND KEEP YOU THERE....

  • So what your saying here gennius is that if a place is haunted, it's only haunted at night. Well I'm glad you cleared that up for us..

  • pass me whatever your smoking!! ghosts come out whenever they want to..maybe he filmed during the day so the cops wouldnt hassle him if he were there at night?

  • all i hear is static

  • About a year ago I started looking up info on the web about this disaster. What struck me were the accounts of people coming out of the village to loot the victims.

  • It is best as mentioned to visit both places after dark at around 7:30 -8:00 PM on the anniversary December 29, 1876. This is when the activity is at a peak.

  • The cut stone foundation of the original bridge abutments and the one just before it are still there under the Eastward arch of the current bridge. There are several stones strewn in the water that have a scorched appearance. That is where the fire consumed many of the dead that were trapped. There are 19 burned (beyond recognition) bodies buried together in the cemetery.

  • Collins did not approve of the bridge plans but was forced to finish it. Collins committed suicide a few days after the collapse. Amasa Stone was found guilty, fell into financial collapse, and also committed suicide 6 years later. Amasa Stone was responsible for Case Western University. I've researched this quite a bit and have been to both the cemetery and the bridge.

  • Collins was not the designer of the bridge, he was the building engineer. Amasa Stone designed the bridge based on William Howe's design, only he made the mistake of using thin wrought iron members and cast iron plates rather than the required heavy timber members.

  • thanks for the info

  • No problem. I just helped the Ohio Historical Society on the same topic. Their entry on their website is showing a fake drawing and incorrect information at this time. I gave them a reference to Stephen Denison Peets book (The Ashtabula Train Disaster) and they actually had a copy of the 1877 book. I sent them a copy of a photo taken the day after the accident and they will be scanning it and several from the book soon.

  • I hope their is a bridge their haha ! If not, scary shit !!

  • I bet if "feels" haunted toward Dusk !! Creepy

  • interesting! My friend and I traveled 3 hours to check out ATW, and we did get a picture of what looks like a man's face at night, hovering near a grave. Eerie during the day, scary as hell at night.

  • ay buzz, im from ashtabula and i liked the video on ur site from chestnut grove. I have a great suggestion and that is to visit the actual site of the wreck. Go to main avenue near slappys liquor store and go down tannery hill (takes u to the gulf and the river). When u get to the bottom, turn into cedarquist park where the basebal fields are. Walk along the trail that is at the far end of the parking lot, it will lead you to the bridge that took the place of the one that was desroyed. PLEASe

  • Thanks for the info, we plan on doing just that this year. And thanks for the dirrections to..

  • Damn that train sound is Creepy, haha !

  • it was....

  • yea that train sound iscnt real creepy, there is a train tressel jus a few seconds down the road

  • The train thing was so cool, kinda freaky as you are talking about the disaster, there at the cemetary with the victims as well as Collins, boom! A train sounds in the back AND the fact it sounded like it was crossing a bridge! That was GREAT!

  • yeah it was pretty freaky the way it happened... thanks for watching

  • It is a shame that the actual cemetery shots aren't clearer as the monuments are beautiful. The brick is a very dark color, but there's several other buildings in town that are the same dark color. One is a circa 1900's church. One of the best scenes is on the road on the south side of the cemetery from the hill opposite especially this time of year before the trees leaf out. You can see the Collins' mausoleum from there.

  • If one goes to the south side of the cemetery and looks over the fence and down you'll see the active train tracks right next to the cemetery. They go right across Main Ave, near the best bakery in town, Swedish Pastry Shop.

Where the actual tressel was is nearer ACMC, the local hospital, than the cemetery. There wasn't much besides rusty remnants there years ago so I'm very doubtful there's much of anything there anymore.

  • I don't live anywhere near there, but my ex boyfriend lives in North Kingsville and we visited that site because I wanted to see Philip Bliss's grave. He had told me about the train wreck and I have been into it for a while. One day, we were searching for the site where the train fell but we couldn't find a way down or where it was. Just something to pass time besides showing me all of the cover bridges! That cemetery is scary to be in at night in the winter!

  • The train you hear while making this film is not unusual. There are three active mainlines near that cemetery. And the train that sounded like it was going over a bridge, it was. Norfolk Southern has a trestle that makes lots of noise as trains pass over it.

  • The water you see is either the Ashtabula River or Hubbard Run, depending upon which edge of the cemetery you are standing on. At the point in the video where you mentioned it, you were looking at the Ashtabula River. The actual train disaster site is about 2.5 miles downriver (about 1.5 mi driving distance) from where you were standing.

You should come back some time and visit the disaster site. According to legend, the most activity occurs on Dec. 29th. ;)

Like the vid. Happy hunting! :)

  • Thanks for the info, you can count on us revisiting the site..

  • Where the bridge stood is on depot st. the station is still there along with some of the houses wherefolks were taken for help. there is a book out telling about the wreck of dec 29 1876. it can be had by contacting the historic society of ashtabula or the CofC.

    Rev.J.C.Bliss

  • thank u so much for the info. We plan on going back and checking the location of the wreak this summer.

  • Are you from Ashtabula? Or just a visitor? I am from Ashtabula, and I have MANY times been to Chestnut grove and got videos and photos of Collins and the Memorial. I have seen many odd things, and voices.

    When was this filmed?

  • No I'm from Akron, we just wanted to visit Chestnut Grove due to all the stories we've heard. The film was done in early November.

    Thanks for watching

  • I thought it was cool that I came across it. I was looking up videos on the railroad in San Antiono Texas about the children that were killed on the tracks, and your video poped up! I was like.."Hmm..Ironic" lol.

  • another thing about bula is it seems cursed bc after that train wreck nothing but bad stuff have been happening there.. the hotel fire.. main street was a big thing and most of the buisnesses closed down, accidents on other tracks, trains go by like every ten mins its a annoying, everything is turning to crap out there and till this day Bula has a hard time keepin buisnesses

  • Nice to hear from someone whos been there as long as you have. The town seemed closed down when we were there also. It's a nice place to visit, you know the rest,,lol thanks for watching

  • my grandfather lives right next to that cemetary i lived in ashtabula almost my whole life and the train you are hearing is right down the road from the cemetary there is a train track on main ave which it is the road off off chestnut grove.the tracks is right across from the old ashtabula hotel that is closed down ppl have died on those tracks too, my friend was walking across them over the gUlf and he got hit by the train but anyways the train you hear isnt any thing spooky.

  • Thanks for the info, we knew it was a real train we just couldn't find where it was coming from.

  • BUZ, I heard it when you went on the side of that crypt it sounded like, now don't laugh, but it sounded like BOO! I swear it did. I read about this disaster it is said to be the worst mechanical disaster in American history! Thats heavey duty stuff. I like your videos so keep'em coming.
