most people have heard of him where i live. they even have a john prine singalong once a year in portland oregon, where the folks get together and sing his songs...we love him...
@popcornrabbit07 i wanna go to portland!actualy he always sells out when he comes here to asheville,n.c. every two years.but,we dont have a sing along.wish we did,we do have a good radio station wncw.org that plays him often.
Why is John Prine not more widely known about? He makes Bob Dylan seem irrelevant by contrast. Bob is boring babble compared to the brilliant Prine. I heard about Prine only recently when channel surfing and seeing him on pbsTV. And he's been around for years and years and he's great. Finally great clever songs sung by someone I can understand when he sings. I'm almost thinking John Prine is the best. So how come most people have never heard of him? Am I in the twilight zone?
@FoxyWoman31 I agree with you.Where has he been all these years? I'm 58 and discovered him this year on the Marty Stuart Show.Making up for lost time on You Tube. Also discovered Townes Van Zant who has some beautiful songs.I also like
Blaze Foley's Clay Pigeon that John Prine covers on You Tube.
@FoxyWoman31 Because people have their own opinions, and you have yours. But, yes, he does rival Springsteen and Dylan as a songwriter. Starting to look like the Dalai Lama, but whatevs.
You (and sadly many others) haven't heard of him because the music biz went in the toilet shortly after he began recording in earnest. A ton of good music has been made that you won't hear unless you look beyond the world of commercial music.
I was there, great concert! What was the deal with the Beacon GOONS giving us a hard time for recording - I've never seen that before. I was trying to record with my little Flip camera and they kept threatening to throw me out....
John Prine you are a beautiful soul. One of the few people in music that no one, reguardless of their taste, can dislike.

Foxy never were truer comments ever posted on Youtube. Bob could not carry Johns guitar strap let alone a tune.

@FoxyWoman31 Because Dylan was more politcal.....and really, he didn't babble. He had a lot to say. But maybe you needed a doob to understand it

@FoxyWoman31 I'd put Prine on par with Springsteen as a sonwriter, and that is high praise indeed.

Oh sorry - I thought this was from last night because he said the same exact little speech before he played the song! Apologies, I'm an idiot.
