  • If you crack open the case, you can fit the whole 25' spool in a stainless steel pill bottle or altoids kit

  • I used to use it for stitching up hunting dogs with needle and pliers, it is a good "poor mans snare wire" for small critters

  • when she says her name i swear i keep hearin either sleaky or slinky...

  • Remember to not get mint flavored d.f., as the smell will repel critters. You also mentioned in another vid. to get the un-waxed kind, for ease in tying knots, etc. Maybe you could add these reminders in an annotation. I tried to find un-waxed un-flavored d.f. today, and it was almost impossible. Another great vid - thank you for what you're doing!!!

  • Hi, Slinky! (?) Good to see you back! I noticed you haven't posted for awhile! Great tip.

  • disturbing but tasty? :-P

  • the trap is an awesome idea

  • Nice

  • Stop with the hypocritical "death to the animal" crap. If you were starving to death I be you'd eat your mothers ass! Remember the crash in the Andes by the athletic team?

  • Not sure if the trap would work, but a good idea nonetheless. It's true that it would cause the bird a terrible painful death, but in a survival situation, it's fair game.

  • hi

very interesting idea of the trap with dental floss. But I do not think it would be humane for such a bird, it works like a snare. Certainly makes a lot of pain and suffering for the animal.

I bet many people will wait to get caught up by the bird died, not having the courage to bear the responsibility of their decision to build such a trap and finish off the prey.

I'm also a fan of survival but I think that even in going through extreme situatio

  • going through extreme situations, we should not inflict pain to animals. and even more fed animals to death in agony.

I believe that if we are forced to kill, we should do it quickly and painlessly as possible.

therefore preferu killing traps work on the basis of the locking mechanism and a weight.

I was forced twice to finish off dying animals in the forest. it was hard to do

imo even aware that these are small rodents, and he was taught how to kil

  • @hero186hero not respecting the animals and nature, we become self-centered - not in a matter of survival

do not get me wrong teaching someone we have a responsibility to our students.

    P.S. Best channel I like

    besides, you're beautiful and courageous

    Good luck

  • Have you looked at Spiderwire fishing line? Very thin and VERY strong! I have about 50 feet in my fishing kit. It's about the diameter of 10 pound test but can hold about 40 pounds!

  • Loved your video. Just got my first Bob together and have it in there thank's. :)

  • This is awesome! I never even considered dental floss, yet it's true that it's super strong and that bird trap us a great idea! Imagine the bird boppin along, eating stuff and suddenly it's like... Uh oh! Haha!

  • great idea

  • Hey, that's pretty clever.

  • I mean after eating the rabbit you caught with it!

  • Can you use it to floss your teeth?

  • I would also keep it in its container. The cutter is very handy and it is very light and keeps the string clean and neat. It doesn't take up much space.

  • @PeakSurvival, what dumb bird would eat the dental floss. I think the dodo birds are extinct already and they are the only ones dumb enough to do that.

  • @Dasdfjkl youre probably right. its much easier to just lay down and die.

  • @jawbone83 I wouldn't go that far. I would eat the seeds, and try making a perch with a gravity snare with the dental floss. Dental floss is really strong, you can use it for many things but I can't imagine a birdie eating all that string and getting stuck.

  • @Dasdfjkl - dunno, animals can be pretty dumb. There's a super simple fish trap that would seem easy for a fish to swim out of if they backed up just a bit, but they're often just stuck there waiting to get lifted out of the water.

  • You put out some interesting ideas in your videos. Still a big fan of paracord. The inner strands for the fine work you mentioned here and even with the inner strands removed the shell still has 200+ lbs breaking strenght for boot laces and lashings and such. Although I must admit that dental floss is far supeior in removing left over snared bird from between the pearly whites than paracord ; )

  • your best vid thanks...i agree and use this when sinew isnt available..

  • i have used dental floss as fishing line, sewing my pack, even refurnished a sofa using it for thread.

  • also on the bird trap..there is a very affective one called the "ojibwa bird trap"...doesn't take much to make and that dental floss or what ever cordage you may be carrying can be used. I nail crows with it all the time.

  • also the same as the dental floss is a roll of thick...artificial sinew. I like it better as you can really break the A,S down to really fine strands for use in making fish hooks or hafting an arrow head to a shaft and coating with pine pitch, you don't even know its there. and very strong.

  • Interesting, it binds the bird's guts up then. So it's the opposite of the string through a goose trick.

  • I'm enjoying your videos. You mention a book, 'No Need To Die". Who is the author?

  • @rennybarr try GOOGLE

  • dental floss is such a light weight multipurpose item....especially as a super strong, low stretch lashing material for splints, or for building shelters, makes a stout fishing line as well ...very good segment Selica!

  • Awesome Bird Trap, I agree with meetchat2nite that you are the female MacGyver!

  • love the bird trap. tkx

  • nice tip..thanks

  • woohoo!!

I made a dental floss comment on your channel!

    :D

  • i finally figured it out ! your the CANADIAN MacGYVER CHICK

  • that is very flattering I am a huge fan of Mac Gyver

  • your welcome, it was meant 2 b

  • good piece of kit...eating a blue jay, robin, mocking bird or crow prob would not constitute a "delicious meal", but it would beat starving...

  • ray mears :)

  • I saw this technique in a book called "No need to die" yes also seen it on a Ray Mears show, I have to admit I am a huge fan of his.

  • if it would be woman i would be in love lol . i learned so much from him and you seam to fallow me around :)

  • Great tip on the bird trap. Brilliant.

    Nice job Selica
