Oh my God I remember totally falling in love with U2. This sound, the songs, the feeling, the attitude. And to this day I have managed to never see them live. And honestly, as much as I love everything they do, every phase they have gone through, I'm most sad that now, if I do see them live, I won't hear these old songs from their old albums that I adore so much...
Ahhhh, U2 where did ya go after you left red rocks! your sound- Haunting, Majestic, Classic, never to be done that way again, even though they will never go back, U2 owns RED ROCKS, their spirit walks about there every night... they just allow other artist to use it time and again! How long? the Day was Sunday, Bloody Sunday-June 5th 1983 a day that will live on in infamy!
U2 @ Red Rocks is absolutely brilliant. What a show! they were on that night. The Dvd is excellent as well, it really captures the rawness of the show. No frills no gimmicks just in your face musicianship. The photography was superb and the weather, Then sound.
Just absolutely perfect. probably my favorite music DVD Get it and turn it up
I saw U2 at Dooley's Restaurant and Nightclub, East Lansing Michigan, Monday night, 1981. They were hauling their own equipment, playing through a crappy house PA to about 100 people. My band was playing there later that week, so with nothing to do on a Monday night we checked out this unknown band. They're superstars now ...I'm not. RD
@RomanovDynasty1, they were already selling out theaters, even well over a thousand in attendance to see U2, in cities throughout the U.S. before they played in East Lansing that Monday night in 1981.
how can someone give me a thumbs down on my last statement--its true the dvd and even the home video version looks way better than this ugly version and if you had cable in 1983 this concert looks great but this one? No way!
the U2 live at red rocks album was probably the most influential record I ever heard. In my college years (1983-1987), I discovered U2 and there has been no turning back. If you didn't listen to U2 or REM in my day, you were out of the loop. It is the best live album of all time.
I was only a sophomore in high school back in '83, but even then I knew these guys would be great, and 26 years later I'm glad I was right...I got to see them in'91 at the Pontiac Silverdome, and will remember it the rest of my life. I hope the people at this show knew how special this performance would be...
@jp84rocket The Live @ Red Rocks is a show/tour I really wish I had seen. I was only 13 at the time, but wow.. that music was amazing. Way before Bono started giving political and religious speeches in between every song. This live release and The Delicate Sound of Thunder are tied for my top favorite live releases.
I tried hard to resist being overly influenced by any other artist but I must admit that this particular band, and specifically this concert, are part of my very fabric.
ill finish with this thrid comment saying there are a LOT of other bands with bassists that are worth far less than Adam Clayton. I will agree that without the edge though, U2 is musically only half of what it is. Well, was. As far as im cocnened Pop wasn't that great and 99% of anything after that sucks. they lost the originality they once had. Live at red rocks is a classic show in rock n roll. No doubt about it. Wish the tape version was COMPLETE. First time i see this one.
This very one even, one of the earliest ones ive learned. Simple but nice. And on Pop he had a few really nice basslines. I think on joshua tree even if really straightforward, basslines like with or without you (4 roots notes all the way) count for something. Instantly recognizable. Same for New year's day. From 1980 to 1984 he threw in some chrods around live too a lot. Simple power ones but still rare to see bassists do this. He did it a bunch in the Live at red rocks show.
Ok im kinda sick of people saying Adam CLayton can't play bass. Now don't get me wrong, he's not a technically great bass plyer but he knows how to play to a song. Ive been playing bass for 12 years and while i was able to play all u2 song within the first. Ive always enjoyed a lot of his basslines. I'd say his basslines from Joshua tree to maybe Zooropa weren't as great as his earlier ones though. Two hearts beat as one is a kickass bass part. The slap solo in gloria.
I cannot believe my comment has 3 thumbs down, if that is the way "superior" U2 fans look at interprations of songs, then they've picked the wrong rock band to listen to.
U2 push for equality, and homosexuality is one of them!
In the 'Into the Heart' book, Bono is just amused how the lyrics can be interpreted that way, because the lyrics can clearly be interpreted as referring to homosexuality. However there was no homosexual intention or idea when they created the song and the lyrics, according to them. Just a case of coincidental similarity.
Hi Babyblue. Yes. I think that Adam Clayton can play rudimentary bass guitar. Sorry if it seemd like I was being harsh. U2 possibly never would have existed if it weren't for Adam.
well i knew that!:) i thought you might have some information i hadn't heard. i've heard the other 3 wanted to give it up, and ac convinced them to stay together way back then. they wanted to quit because of religious beliefs i thought..
of course not. i just give all 4 credit for forming the band. but when they went to break up, i know he convinced them to keep it together. but you're right, he was important in forming the band...
Just relax and take another bong hit LoveAngel. :-) Everything's fine. U2 is a great band and I'm sure you're a great gal :-) It's wonderful to hear these songs from Boy live!
Adam stopped singing because his voice is almost worst than his bass playing......Sorry but it's true.....I love U2 but Adam Clayton is a frightingly bad bass player. Don't get me wrong I love U2
Hey no worries, I'm not into attacking people for expressing their views, and I know he's definitely not the greatest out there. I think most U2 fans know that Bono and Edge are really the geniuses in the band, Larry and Adam round things out well though, and if they were all musical geniuses they might have ended up more like the Beatles...
...it's also no secret that Larry and Adam have been taking lessons for at least ten years. I'll admit I've never heard Adam sing solo, but his bass playing is at least decent enough to have kept them going this long. If you're a musician though (I'm not really) I can see where you're coming from. Rock had always been more about attitude than virtuosos, it'd just be cool to see him display the panache he's got in this video more often these days. cheers-
I'm sure most U2 fans will agree that this "Live at Red Rocks" is a classic live U2 gig. The video release is still only available in VHS. The live CD is actually not all at Red Rocks.
