The day you see that shark would probably the last one cause he lives far away from the coast and you 'ld be probably in a shipwrecked position. He is particularly aggressive because of seizing any opportunity to feed himself by the food rarity of his environment. Some said he's probably the biggest responsible of the Indianapolis carnage. Never underestimate those sharks. They surely are more dangerous for man than the great white even if they don't really look like.
FYI - if that shark wanted to eat you - he would have - camera or not. One of the attacks in the Red Sea by an OTW last year was upon a diver video taping the OWT. Both of his arms were severed. That shark was a rogue. This shark is a teenager trying to figure out what is and isn't food. My best advice as a Rescue Diver - don't push your luck in the future.
Not to harp on the subject, but the shark in this video is clearly a juvie (not like the 12 footer that buzzed my husband), maybe 6 feet ? And cameras don't really emit enough RF to attract anything. It bumped the camera to test if it was edible. The OWT is the apex predator in the Red Sea. Yes, there's Hammers, but they're pussycats in comparison. People need to learn a healthy respect for these creatures and give them space - admire from a distance. Your instructor should have told you that.
Okay, it's Daedalus Reef (was in the Red Sea last Oct), and close to the area where poeple were attacked and that Greman woman killed by an Oceanic Whitetip. As all divers know, sharks aren't typically aggressive creatures. We're not food and they know it. Juvies are usually the ones causing the mayhem, but let's face it, if we get attacked, we're in their territory, imposing on thier food supply, and people are 99% at fault. When they bump the camera they're just checking it out. Not attacking.
Oh come on. If the sharks really would have been agressive, there would have been casualties. Fact is, sharks aren't nearly as aggressive as people think. The reason it bumped your camera could have simply been because of the electric signals it emits, which attrackt sharks.
ture Jily24 but there are good scuba stories on the net too. My favorite site is the myscubastory site. They have shark diver attack videos, true scuba diving stories, lost buddy stories, dive accident stories and videos. Type myscubastory into google and its the first one
The dive operator should not have allowed this. the oceanic whitetip is notoriously dangerous. At Daedalus they probably seem more tame because they are well fed in that they are close to the reef. If you incountered this fish in a true palegic environment it would be a much more dangerous situation. Its only a matter of time before someone is killed by one of these fish at Daedalus.
what attack? what aggression? What are you on about?
In your discription you claim the shark is aggressive, then in your next sentence you claim the shark liked playing with you. Which one is the true statement?!
@DeepAddiction47 like another youtube user said; "It is well documented that when an Oceanic Whitetip 'bumps' objects or swims up close then turns away in the water, it is time to get out... "| ----- Whitetip are known for their agressivity, im sure if the camera wasnt blocking, the whitetip would have crushed and eat his face.
@Sithemp11 - mate, go check your facts!! Prehaps start with Eli Martinez from Shark Diver Magazine or Andy Murch from Elasomo Diver both of whom run dedicated Oceanic Whitetip shark expeditions and spend hours at a time in the water with these animals. By the way, how many shark dives have YOU done?!! Bet you don't even dive, yet you talk it up as though you know it all! Joker!!!!!!!!
@DeepAddiction47 listen up MATE, all i sayd is;when a Oc whitetip Bumps on you, into a camera, its really well documented that its means WHITETIP are getting agressive and are looking to attack you, I did not sayd anything else ! i read about it many times, and that is what my instructor told me. Perhaps YOU should go gather information. i may not have dive as many times as you did, but i did dive quite a few times. ps english is not my langugage, i know what im talking about, dont insult me
@Sithemp11 yeah mate if the shark actually wanted to eat him it would have as the camera was not that big. It is true that white tip sharks have been known to be aggressive towards divers but here it was just bumping the camera to check it out
@ryancormacstokes I found many other videos of whitetip bumping cameras on youtube and its supposed to be the first sign of their agressivity. They circle and bump, when they bump, they touch the camera with their teeth to evualuate what it is,, there sensors are so powerfull, touching with is teeth he can detect if its a very hard object like a rock. ITS BEEN documented that divers must protect themself with the camera against whitetip bumping because its they evaluate you, if you are soft food
@Sithemp11 I was not disagreeing with that statement, I said that the shark was obliviously not trying to "crush and eat his face" or it would have, but also if you are soft it does not make you prey there is a psychology to it on whether they label you a prey or a fellow predator according to your feel, movements, heart rate ect
@ryancormacstokes agreed on everything you said! p.s. excuse my poor english, i dont speak it well. i just sayd crush your face xD because i saw to many people on the internet that consider wild creatures like pet,, ohh an innofensive whitetip, ohh a cute polar bear lol! nature is motsly about survival, but i know there is really more ativities than that, and that sharks are not killing machine obsesed with the extermination of the human race lol, but they still are potentially dangerous.

It is well documented that when an Oceanic Whitetip 'bumps' objects or swims up close then turns away in the water, it is time to get out... They are possibly sizing you up for food. Having said that, they are bautiful creatures and I would not give a second thought to diving with them. Only managed to dive with Hammerheads in the red sea so far..

MechmanGetrieb 2 years ago
There was no attack at all.
And the Sharks have not been Aggressive.
Ore do you call it an attack if a Dog touches you or youre Kamera ????
It would be a nice Vid with a different Titel.
I would suggest curious Sharks in the red see.
