Not bad for a live performance !

I remember first hearing this instrumental on the

radio back in 1962. It was played by The Tornados

(a British group) to mark the launch of the Telstar

communications satellite by the USA.

The Ventures came out with their version not long after, and it was (in my opinion) as good as the original Tornados hit.

Actually I don't think this is a bad version at all. That bass player is darn good too- he's added some GREAT runs and little riffs here and there, and very importantly, none of them overshadow the melody.
