Jap and SK are as good if not better than 5th placed s.a sides. Having a pro-league means players have a means of having a foundation before heading off to other leagues, it also raises the profile of soccer within a particular country, creates extra competition for the national squad and just raises the standard throughout the country.

I'm an aussie but can admit that the A-League is a joke and that besides Cahill, most of the australian team are not good enough. Scott MacDonald plays in the championship, and some of the others player lower than that. Association football and soccer were terms created to separate it from rugby football. Im not from america and I know that it gained independence in 1776, association football was codified in 1863. @euan2020 wow you seriously have no idea about soccer development do you? Playing one serious ql and 3 friendlies doesn't exactly help us get better does it? Jap and SK are as good if not better than 5th placed s.a sides. Having a pro-league means players have a means of having a foundation before heading off to other leagues, it also raises the profile of soccer within a particular country, creates extra competition for the national squad and just raises the standard throughout the country.

I'm an aussie but can admit that the A-League is a joke and that besides Cahill, most of the australian team are not good enough. Scott MacDonald plays in the championship, and some of the others player lower than that. Qualifying by beating teams like Qatar and Bahrain isnt impressive considering the Scotland have to beat teams like Holland and Spain.
