Simply because when you see it actually eating/fighting the pursuing people it doesn't move quite so natural and looks a bit like a puppet, which it probably was since they don't want a real cat fighting people and being beaten to death. it's not terrible... but it ruined the sense of elaborate realism for me that had been carried so smoothly up to that point.

Actually no I wouldn't have preferred CGI. I just wish they could've used more of the real cat, since they obviously already had one. I imagine it's hard to get a good looking animal attack scene without CGI, but having it in there might've hurt the picture even more. As I stated before everything about this film is amazing...except that one part, which isn't a ghastly mistake, it's just not on par with the rest of the film. Also, I don't care for Bay's stuff that much.
