  • god they just dont make music like this anymore. so much soul

  • I was born and raised in Rockford, IL, and lived there for 40 years, and these guys are the Pride of the City! It was a Sunday morning, back in July of 1988 when our local morning paper had the banner headline, 'Number 1 !!', as the new Billboard Hot 100 had been published and this song was the No. 1 Pop single in the U.S.A. Stayed there for 2 weeks. In Dec. of 88, they performed in Rockford, and our civic centre, which seats 11,000 uncomfortably, sold out in an hour. I was fifth row center!

  • estaa cancioon estaaa con ganaas

  • I love this song:)

  • SSSSSSHHHHH... LISTEN....

  • This song will either be a wonderful or bittersweet memory for me. I'm 25 and for the first time in my life found what I believe to be real genuine love with a woman...but up to now life has taught me everything has an expiration date. I am hoping with my entire soul that her flame for me doesn't die like every other woman's has.

  • Theresa, Thank you for introducing me to this song. I will be the flame..!

  • I,love this song wonderful

  • cheap trick is the best band eva to see live

  • Too bad they didn't write it...

  • @LighterNumber300 ...and?

  • @LoonytoadQuack Just saying lol. Cuz there a good band and they didn't write their top hit. Just sayin...

  • He says "Thanks, we got a song that got played a bunch on the radio, but did it cross his mind WE REALLY LOVED THIS SONG? it wasn't the radio it was US!

  • Is there any reason there isnt a gagillion hits on this tune?

  • @82sweetheart... I hear ya ! I was a navy corpsman stationed with the us navy seabees on deployment overseas. You cant imagine howmany young men played this tune over and over, specially when they decided to have a few cold ones. I can say that you see it all over them, I know they saw it all over me.

  • honestly, CT was never my favorite band, but this song kicks serious ass, and the Live version is even better than the studio. Dream Police is their best song, but dang I love this song too. Sheer awesome.

  • @sadalite I agree about the live version, when I chose among the list of recordings etc for this song, I figured a live version will be best.

  • Saw them in 1979, they weregreat. Put on a good show. This song is a classic.

  • ms ddavid_2021...heartly dedicated...missing you

  • increble...

  • beautiful song, these guys can rock!

  • Wow I never noticed Robin bars with his pinky. Yay! I'm not alone!

  • @TheLongLakeRockstar is that long lake NY ?

  • @prizinor12 Yeah I went up to Long Lake Camp for The Arts in LL NY a Few years back and after playing a few shows a lot of the band Directors really liked my performances, The owner of the Camp gave me the name The Long Lake Rockstar. I've used it ever since.

  • @prizinor12 Yeah it is. I went up to the Long Lake Camp for The Arts a Few years back and I played all of the Rock shows they held there. All of the band Directors came out and told me my performances were really good for a 16 year old back then, The owner of the Camp gave me the name The Long Lake Rockstar. I've used it ever since.

  • UNA WENA CANCION...XEVERE

  • Yes they used backing synths on here although they might be a live muscian. They have used a keyboard player on other live shows.

  • Wow. So good it's cheesy. Really well done. Props.

  • 5:29 Say 'AHHH...', Robin!

  • Comment removed

  • there is something weird goin on here...robin is strumming chords on an acoustic and yet at the same time i hear arpeggiated chords on the acoustic. I wonder if they were playing to a tape w/another acoustic as well as a synth...

  • DE LO MEJORRRR

  • I photographed Cheap TRick in 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • This song just gets to me ~ and the emotion that Robin sings it with ~ especially at 2:59 and 4:24, when he sings "You'll always be the one" ~ he obviously has that eternal flame for someone ~ that aching feeling ~ because only when you've had someone captivate you that deeply ~ can you know that aching desire to hold them again!!

  • @82sweetheart Ever happen to you baby?? LU Forever .... G

  • @82sweetheart

I remember seeing them with UFO at the Roanoke Civic Center in 1981. The first real rock show I ever attended. My friends dad took three of us. I think I still have a Cheap Trick shirt somewhere!

To answer your question, yes! I've had that feeling of despair and loneliness of not being able to have, "that someone" . Great comment-spot on 82 lady.

    N8

  • Robin sounds like he had a sore throat this night, but he still pulled it out like a trooper. Amazing.

  • damn so well done!!!!

  • WoW!!!!

Awesome track, awesome vocals, awesome band!!!

    :-)

  • was this really in 1985... they used the same stage for the next 6 years after that .... ?

  • want to go see them at the greek but without the Bun it just wont be the same. :(

  • Sorry,I meant to out after it: I know how you feel

  • its so so sad that kids today dont have this kind of music coming over the air waves. so sad.

  • i like the boots the bass player is wearing i use to have boots like that.

  • mufc99ok - this guy has been doing this for 30+ years.

  • mufc99ok - this guy has been doing this for 20+ years.

  • When someone comes into your life and ignites that eternal flame in your Heart ~ there will never be another that can put out that flame ~

  • @MaidenVenus101

I just gave you a big thumbs up.

  • @n8tureboy ~ Thanks N8 ~ I knew if anyone would ~ it would be You!!

  • Powerful song...well sung and played!

  • I photographed Cheap Trick when they opened for Kiss in 1977. To see the shots go to ianmarkmusichotos (.com)

  • 2:59 great moment

  • OMG! I was at this show and it was AWESOME!

  • OMG love this band .....please come back ....rock hair nation love it.

  • Greatest Rock Ballad of all time!!

  • Robin is simply great...this is a good example.

  • He is god!!!.

  • he's the man of a thousand voices

  • a very under rated band ... deseve a whole lot more credit than they get

  • Awesome!!!

  • The first song that comes to my mind.my broken heart.i had tears in my eyes.

  • Great voice, great song

  • cheap trick rocks!!! \m/

  • I saw them this same tour , open up for Robert Plant - A*M*A*Z*I*N*G F*ing SHOW!!!

  • I think this is their best one for sure!

  • wuoo de verdad son grandiosos

    en todo aspectoo

    la voz es simplemente genial

    wuooo

  • This song is AMAZING!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

  • Love this...

  • One of the best power ballads of all time. Another great 80's tune!

  • god this guy can really sing

  • @mufc99ok Who cares about Robin Zander (but he CAN sing), it's Rick's guitar that's the best!

  • @mufc99ok Just wondering what the girls were thinking back then, shit that guy with the skull shirt is ugly and the lead singer is gorgeous.

  • This band is fukkin AMAZING... they have several epic songs. This one just happened to get a lot of radio play.

Too bad now all they play is wigger music like eminem.

  • @agenthelios1 I dont mean Chip trick plays wigger music (hell no) I meant thats all they play on the radio.

    Cheap Trick will forever ROCK!!

  • which unfortunately have to remind you every time I hear this song, that memory is what ruins jockabed my life, I hope never to find my way, and I love this song

  • This is a Seabee favorite for both stateside clubs and on Deployment to Westpac, maybe even the mid east.

  • Love this song, great. But the goddamn Bass player needs to do something besides stand there lke a lump of shit. He basically stands behind Robin 2 feet the entire song and doesn't move?? Little strange no?? Other than that, great video.

  • @MegaBob77777 He's a bass player ffs... most of them don't move much at all.

  • @MegaBob77777 not every musician can play while moving around. One of the greatest bass players of all time...John Entwistle rarely if ever moved.....

  • @alsaxe1 This is true. But have you ever seen Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple??? Bass player extrodinaire and a huge stage presence. I loved Cheap Trick, dont get me wrong. But the Bass player, the way he stands so close to Robins back, its almost freakish. Check out Glenn Hughes, he's awesome!

  • @MegaBob77777 i'm familiar w/glenn from deep purple days.... I hadn't noticed that tom peterson stood that close to robin...i'll recheck....

  • Rumours had it Robin wasn't very thrilled about the song, although it was a commercial success - could be the very reason, getting to think about it. That and Epics intentions of making CT more mainstream is thought of being the begining of the end of CTs tenure at Epic.

  • @joeytruelove well they didnt write it, so who makes all the money, the writer..even if its a number 1....

  • you guys might this is kinda gay but, im 14 and this song makes me tear up everytime i hear it. ya. thats how moving this song is.

  • @bllpg9 it is a bit gay but totally cool..this what real music can do to someone...

  • @flippyflyer A bit gay??!! WTF??

  • @OneBigFriggingDude ok not gay, its cool to cry... Oh Candy does it to me...

  • Love --->Cheap Trick playing the Flame....

  • CHEAP TRICK--- "THE FLAME"

  • This is the first time I have seen this certain clip. He is dead on! The whole group was perfect. And this is a live performance. Usually there will be something a little weak, but man this blew me away.

  • his range is higher than bob marley

  • I love that extra at 5:59 - snap those fingers and I will come running.... oh, Robin!

  • OMG, Robin!! I was in Houston then, why wasn't I there?? This is amazing and everything that is good!

  • SOUNDS EVEN BETTER THEN THE STUDIO VERSION....!

  • 5:31 tells the whole story.....awesome

  • I think I just lost my toenails like a good hetero should do in this tune...wonderfull

  • What a wonderful song. The power of it has always blown me away. This version has feeling beyond anything I have seen before. Remarkable rendition!!! THANK YOU!

  • That is not sweat on his face. Those are tears of passion from going all out on this amazing song. The 45 degree head tilt when hitting those power notes says it all.

  • I love Robin!! He is just adorable!!!!

  • seriously underrated

  • This song I liked alot!

  • wow

  • I heard that they dropped this in their set. God they are good. Robin is an amazing singer. As comical as Rick is it just blends in - so deep..

Keep the Flame Cheap Trick.. I heard their Vegas Pepper things is great too..!!

  • @gjohung They were in Phoenix July 2010, I saw them perform at Talking Stick and they played this in the encore set... they still have it! Wonderful show!!

  • i love this video brings back memories

  • like this live version! a wonderful singer.

  • good times with my ex

  • Been gone awhile. Came back tonight to see how this song fares with me after almost a year ago (my last visit to this page.) Well, whether you listen to the commercial version (studio) or the concert (live) version, the song remains the same. As ever , and simply put... still this is one beautiful song.

  • Rock Romeos of all times. This song takes me when I was a teenager.

  • i never used to like cheap trick in the 80's....wasn't till i got a lil older that i realised their true talent.......great song.

  • esta es una fabulosa cancion, la verdad una de las mejores de los años 80

  • love u,,ur so amazing ,,OMG i cant put it into words how i adore u everytime u sing this song

  • Great song played even better live.

  • This is awsome!

  • Who cares about him not doing theat high note at the end.Sometime singers get that.He gave his all.And recently he still does it.It's still amazing.

  • I have seen these guy six times in the last seven years. The last time was two months ago. I sat there and thought for awhile they were lip syncing a couple of songs but i was real close and could see that they were not. They sounded exactly like they did in the 70's & 80's. They never fail to entertain me royally. I will see them every time when they roll around town. and i hope they dont quit anytime soon. Not bad and all the artists are the originals still not many bands can say that.

  • Took my 14 year old shopping with a group of her friends, thanks to my daughter and her fav. band being Cheap Trick, 3 of her friends left with Cheap Trick CD's. My daughter had turned on classmates to this great group and it seems to be spreading through her school. A great bad keeps on going even with a younger crowd of today.

  • Brings back such GREAT memories. This one has to be the BEST versions.

  • the guitar is perfect,i think this song have better tings than hotel california ,and i love both songs

  • I had a total crush on Robin the year this song came out. Looking at him now still flutters my heart and im 17 again...yessss!

  • Seen this band early 80;s in Johnson City Tn....Awesome....what more can you say...Damn great performance and great song.

  • Great version of great song. Not bad for a song that the band hates. Or at least did until the royalty checks started rolling in.

  • i'll always love this song. :-)

  • EN VIVO DESDE EL MAJESTUOSO ASTRODOME DE HOUSTON =)

  • great !100 percent!!!!!!!!

  • This is absolutely awesome, sang from the heart!

  • great face at 5:32 :)

  • A little struggle there, Robin...

  • @redhand126 , have you ever tried to sing this song? It ain't easy! As well, touring takes it's toll on a voice ... Not only does Zander have an incredible voice, he wasn't afraid to max it out on many of his tunes ... Try singing his catalog song after song, night after night, and I'm sure your voice would be a bit fatigued ... All things considered, great performance!

  • you are sooo welcome... and Robin... you are a little babe...

  • A good little rock band that was very underrated. I like the fact that each member had his own individual image. Good band.

  • @ukmenace123 stop dissing cheap trick... maybe ur da one hu sucks dicks. asswipe

  • the best version EVER. PERIOD

  • nice tele-shaped acoustic! I want that one!

  • I was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whoah!!! listening to it makes my eyes watery ^^,

  • rock!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great song

  • The tricksters are real musicians-cool stick countoff by Mr. Bun E. Carlos

  • This band was under-rated. The vocals and the gitar are unreal!

  • Robin is so fine...

  • ña mejor cancion

  • like it how ROBIN sings dis song... he sings it with all his heart and power... ahahaha best band 4 me....

  • This sounds just like the CD: Amazing!

  • I really like Robin w/out the bangs... I never knew how fine he was till I was older... like a year or so ago... 46 perhaps... this video makes me want him ...

  • yeaaaaaaaa

  • long after cheap trick got big, they were scheduled for an -after work- party on the plza- show in downtown houston. 'got rained out. that was probably a good thing-`cause they would've shut that place down.

  • oh man... what a great song...

  • As a ''power ballad''this was a great song, but ,this version takes the song to another level.Robin Zander sings it as if its the last time and he has to give everything he has.

  • Absolutely

  • @stevediorio

Well said! I couldn't agree more!

  • @stevediorio I can't say it any better than you.

  • @stevediorio Well said... They performed in Phoenix July 2010 and I love how they have prob done that song thousands of times, they played it as if it were the first and their last... truely inspirational!

  • @stevediorio DUDE u hit it right on the he's hitting every note, and sounds great! almost soo good youd think it was a recorded vocal, but its LIVE

  • @stevediorio There's a rumor that Robin Zander (lead singer) didn't like singing this song...If it's true...Why doesn't he like singing this?...It's a great song
