However today, the only reason the RAF is ranked below other air forces is because it doesn't use the most advanced technology available. Try the American made, British flown Sentry AEW1. The Harrier was a joint project between US AND UK. The Uk pulled out for lack of funding and the US took full control of the program. The Brits designed the original known as the Hawker Siddeley. It was the bases for future Harriers but in combat it lacked fire power. McDonnell Douglas and BAe joined together and created what is now the kickass American and British versions.

The fact is, the RAF maintained air superiority over the falklands despite the fact that they were outnumbered 3 to 1, and flew a near spotless combat record against the argentine airforce who were operating Dassault Mirage F1s and 2000s, a faster and more maneuverable aircraft than the Harrier. Most of the kills were made by the Harriers onboard cannon as well, as the weather and terrain did not allow for air to air missles. So much for the Harrier being poorly armed.

The RAF do use the AEW1, this is true, however our main AWACS and sensor aircraft remains the Nimrod. It might also interest you to know that the Nimrod has been used to very great effect in both Iraq and Afghanistan by all members of the coalition forces there as its battlefield control and observation systems are still first class, and there to this date remains no other NATO aircraft flying with a simlar standard of equiptment on board.

America has the P-3 Orion which is the same crap and role as the Nimrod. Nothing more, nothing less. Only Russia and China have an aircraft compared to the E-3 Sentry. Which i WHY Britian fly's them!

The P3 orion is a dedicated sub hunting aircraft, and the Nimrod can do this, the Nimrod is a multirole, multifunction AWACS, control and management aircraft. If it was only a sub hunting aircraft why the hell would they be using them in Iraq and Afghanistan?

The P-3 can do the same. But it's a Navy aircraft and will not be used in Iraq. That's up to the Pentagon. The P-3'S were some of the first aircraft to show up during the Kuwait invaion and flew missions up and down the Iraqi, Kuwati boarder.

Or maybe you would like to hear an interesting fact about the conflict in Iraq- almost all of the major precision air strikes were conducted by RAF Tornados, Why? Because they are the only pilots qualified to fly at less than 100ft (the height necessary to defeat RADAR coverage) at high speed and then execute the attacks with the precision necessary to ensure the destruction of the target and mimise collateral damage.
