lol why not walter has nothing on smith. berry had the best moves yah. look at the whole body of work emmit ownes all the record. more power then sanders the best thing about him was when he got the ball its 3 4 5 yards and up. berry has the most lost yards in nfl history.
look at it this way its 3 and 3 in the sp who whould you give the ball to?
wtf u talking about berry shud be 1st if he wouldnt have chose to retire he would have a couple hundred more tds than emmitt smith yo dont know what you are talking about thedwortham
Love the list but need to see 22 higher like 1 or 2 emmitt or walt not Barry he's third I mean emit had like 80 more tds and a ton more yds give him his due cowboy fan or not he's the Jerry rice of rbs except he didn't play for 22 yeArs like jerry
did'nt see that coming knowing hes a Bear fan but thats all good Walter was good 4 sho, but wheres Bo cause Bo knows and Hershel the only biggest blockbuster trade in NFL history pound for pound Herschel was fastest and strongest back ever. and only the biggest blockbuster trade in NFL history 7 picks 3 HOFs n all same trade 2 words BABY BABY rraagh!
peyton is ok if your going total seasons played, sanders to me is best ever but i loved peyton, lol, i also forgot how much i liked marcus allen's calm running style, was great
WoW... that kinda put tears in my eyes. i have been a Dolphins fan forever, but I remember the days of Walter Payton, and You sometimes forget just how great he was. Although they called him sweetness, he was actually a brahma bull who could take the punches and keep going. I see some on here who are questioning your list of ranks, but I mean, everyone has their opinions. I was just glad you took the time to recognize the ones you did... Be blessed
Good list.....but you know that as of now, Ladamian Tomlinson is top 10....replacing Sayers or Allen. Simple as that. And Dickerson is higher than Dorsett...just look at the incredible years for Dickerson, Dorsett for consistent for a long time, but Dick was outstanding. DEFINITIVE LIST:
1. Brown 2. Sanders 3. Payton 4. Smith 5. Dickerson 6. Faulk 7. Tomlinson 8. Simpson 9. Dorsett 10. Allen
Sorry but Barry Sanders was easily the best ever! What pathetic teams he played for. So bad he quit in the prime of his career. Ask any coach, if they could pick a team like the old playground days, who they would pick as their running back choice and it would be unanimous. BARRY SANDERS 100% OF THE TIME. No doubt. Come on...he played for the Lions for Gods sake!
@leo50519 1. jim brown 2. walter peyton 3. barry sanders - but all three of those guys could be number 1, 2 , or 3 its all opinion based there but if that isnt your top 3.. your crazy
@KidTw1st In my opinion you could not be more right about Walter Peyton, Berry Sanders, and Jim Brown. Bro you got it down pat they are absolutly the best.
And to the ass hole who said that was Bo Jackson not Marcus Allen hey dumb ass Bo Jackson's jersey number was 34 not 32 again 34 NOT!!!!!!!!!!! 32 if u don't know something u should look it up instead of making yourself look like an ASS and before u talk bout baseball his jersey number is 16 just for the heads up
One more thing yes Marcus Allen was a Running Back not a Wide receiver
In college set the all-time single season rushing record with 2,342 yards, 1981; First round selection of the Oakland Raiders, led NFL in scoring, 1982; set NFL combined rushing and receiving record with 2,314 yards, 1985; Acquired as a free agent by the Kansas City Chiefs, 1993; First player in NFL to record 10,000 yards rushing and 5,000 yards receiving, 1995; broke rushing touchdown record of 110, 1996(there u go)
i agree barry sanders is the greatest running back of all time no doubt if he would have had a team or hell even a better o line he would have broken the record before he retired but its whatever... n yes all these players are great but none of them where better than Barry
@sportsmaniac247 Im not saying Jim thorpe wasnt an amazing athlete....bo jackson qualified to be a decathlte but didnt cause it didnt give him financial support, Bo had the 2nd fastest 60mdash and fastest 40.... my opinion and research but jim thorpe was the best of his time no doubt
Barry Sanders is the Michael Jordan of football. He retired because he lost the love for the game. If he had not retired he would have broken and properly still have held the rushing record. Much respect to all others but they too would have ooood and ahhhhd if they were to sit a watch Barry Sanders take over a game without having adequate blockers for the years that he was with Detroit.
@brinsinc1 barry sanders the mj of football? ... not even close... jerry rice is the guy who holds that title- and before you argue mj had a over all average team with the exception of pippen, and he has six rings because he was the best player who ever lived, that cant be said about barry. hes good but look at jim browns numbers and games per season and how long he played compared to barry (not much longer) and he had 4 games less a season, barrys good, but hes number 2 in rbs not the GOAT
Earl Campbell was not even on here. Yeah, this was rigged lol by Barry Sanders is the sickest RB of all time. What took the rest more than 10 years to reach he did it in 9, and yes he would have beat WP's record had he played the 10th season.
@bigboy1364 u know what??? CBERSC is right hes a running back...... look it on the internet if u dont belive it.... and then u can delete this negative comment of urs after that............. i hate ppl like u leaving RETARDED comments........... and search on it before u are saying anything u dont know something ´bout........
You got your #1 right. Payton might have been the greatest football player period. Like the list. I'd probably find room for Terrell Davis in the bottom half for those three incredible seasons and the two Superbowl victories with the Broncos before he was injured.
#1 is Emmitt Smith he has the numbers to prove it. How can you rank a guy that has 3 rings and all TIME leading rusher in the NFL ever #4 come on. #1 emmitt #2 payton.
1 barry sanders 2 marshall faulk 3 walter payton 4 L.T. 5 jerome bettis 6 earl cambell 7 erick dickerson 8 gale sayers 9 emmitt smith 10 marcus allen
only reason payton isnt 1 because i said pure runner not runningback because running backs do more than run they block catch ect. and emmitt is so low because he was mr.consistant he wasnt nothing amazing like barry sanders barry i put at 1 because he played less than 10 years for the lions and ia 3rd all time rusher in career rushing yards
u right for the most part but where's jerome bettis and earl cambell or corey dillion because he played for bengals most his career but the first year dillion left he want to superbowl
take jim brown and o.j. simpson out and put bettis like at 6 faulk at 3 cambell 7
How could you not include Earl Campbell and LT???!!! Also, although I am a Walter Payton fan, I would still put Jim Brown as number 1, then Payton and Barry (doesn't matter which place). Finally, get rid of Marcus Allen (great, but not all-time) and your list is good :)
marshal faulk and tony dorsett are better than erick dickerson???? and idc what anyone says barry sanders in #1 runnin back of all time. if he played 1 more yr he would've beat paytons record. even after 3 of his o-linemen were killed he still was a boss. i understand y u put emmitt smith up there but i think he's overrated. and i havent heard this r kelly song in forever!
So I see that Marshall Faulk is somehow up here when ladainian tomlinson isn't...... It's not like he has the record for most single season touchdowns or anything....
The only problem I have with this list is Emmitt being so low. He was a true three-tool back (run, catch, block). Plus he has rings, plus he's the all-time leader.
Great Video yeah Emmitt Smith is the All-Time Rushing Leader needs more credit then all this crap about his line was the best ever his moves were amazing and so were his Super Bowl Wins!!!
Nice list, and not far from my own. Would have included Earl Campbell at the expense of either Faulk or Allen, and would rate Jim Brown at number 1. To be Jim Brown's equivalent today you'd have to be the best athlete on the field, with unbelievable balance, toughness and vision, and physically you'd have to be six foot six, weight 285 pounds, and run the 40 in under 4.3. Imagine a player like that and you can get an idea of how dominant Brown was in his era.
NOT BAD, BUT I HAVE 1) JIM BROWN, 2) WALTER PAYTION, 3) BARRY SANDERS, 4) OJ. SIMPSON, 5) EMMIT SMITH, 6.) GAYLE SAYERS, 7) MARSHALL FAULK, 8) ERIC DICKERSON, 9.) EARL CAMPBELL, 10) TONY DORSETT
Barry Sanders should always be on #1 on anyones list cuz he did what he did with the lions offensive line. Imagine if he had emmit Smith's line? But this is a good list. And Jim brown can be #1 as well with Sanders #2
1. Walter Payton 2. Jim Brown 3. Barry Sanders. Eric Dickerson 5. Emmit Smith 6. OJ Simpson 7. Marcus Allen 8. Marshall Faulk 9. Gayle Sayers 10. Earl Campbell
11. Terrell Davis 12. Marcus Dupree 13. LaDalian Tomlison 14. Billy Sims 15. Franco Harris
1. Barry Sanders 2. Walter Payton 3. Jim Brown 4. Marshall Faulk 5. Roger Craig 6. Eric Dickerson 7. OJ Simpson 8. Emmit Smith 9. Marcus Allen 10. Steven Jackson
This video brought tears to my eyes. I have Jim Brown ranked as #1. When you watch his hightlights it looks like a f....ing riot has broken out on the field and Brown is in the middle of it all. I am partial to Csonka as a pure fullback. But who can argue with Walter Payton- pure speed, pure power, pure e

There is only one greatest running back of all time.
Consider these numbers....
104.3 - yards per game, lifetime - an all-time NFL record.
5.2 - yards per carry, lifetime - an all-time NFL record.
8 - seasons, he led the NFL in rushing - an all-time NFL record.
0 - games Jim Brown missed in nine years.
Enough said.

Barry Sanders should always be on #1 on anyones list cuz he did what he did with the lions offensive line. Imagine if he had emmit Smith's line? But this is a good list. And Jim brown can be #1 as well with Sanders #2
