  • He is one of the greatest hitters in baseball history! He should already be in the Hall of Fame! Writers are biased because of his position but he hit better then anybody for 5 years in a row. That's saying alot when your playing next to the Kid.

  • My favorite player of all time but not a Hall of Famer.

  • HOF and best mariner of all time.

  • Comment removed

  • Definitely should be in the HOF.

    Greatest DH ever.

  • This just makes me miss the the Mariners of the old days that had so much personality and were extremely fun to watch. :(

  • Should be in the HOF.

  • Belongs in the HOF

  • Coach baseball And i haver seen a hitter so selective and disciplined at the plate. It was actually amazing to watch when he was at the plate...Have not seen a hitter lilke him.

  • @biziswinning did you ever see don mattingly?

  • @jc1001964 to bad I'm not a Yankee's fan - but he was a class act all around also - someone should make a video for him. Not a great coach/manager

  • EEEEEDDGAAAAAARRRR

  • Edgar was one of the greats and will always be one of my favorites... he will be in all our memories for ever for gettin "The Double"... but still mariner fans take a deep look at ur selves... are u lookin?... how much does it suck that our greatest memory with the mariners came in the ALDS (even tho it was a great comeback at the end of the season)... but do u know how many teams have never been to the world series?... 2... 1 of em the mariners and they were founded in 77, 33 years no trip WTF

  • @skitsapALONZO it is also pathetic that the highlight of the franchise that they show as much as they can during tv and the games happened in 1995 and it is not 2011

  • @skitsapALONZO it is also pathetic that the highlight of the franchise that they show as much as they can during tv and the games happened in 1995 and it is now 2011

  • he better get in the Hall of Fame... hes my hero and my idol, i play baseball to be like him (but with better english)

  • Edgar will be awhile but if he increses he probably get in..once randy and junior they probably will help him.hes the best DH ever. too bad mariners kept him in minors for too long could have 3000 hits. 5 years in minors with the same stats as he had in the 90's. mariners seem to do that with their players. really disapointed in the team.

  • @MrScrewieLouie Never was really a power hitter. Just a great swing and very disciplined hitter at the plate..Have not seen a hitter to date as disciplined as Edgar very selective and a natural swing. This does not constitute using steroids..

  • @biziswinning Edgar is what Edgardo Alfonzo would have been if he didn't have a bad back.

One of my favorite non-Mets of all time. I own his throwback jersey with the pitchfork logo. His double that knocked the stupid Yankees out of the playoffs was a fond memory.

  • @MrScrewieLouie STFU!!! Don't ever disgrace Edgar you fuck. He's been a class act from day one and is a hitting mechanics master. Roids? Hahhahah you are fucking retarded.

  • @ChrisFlipsAlot Edgar was a Rocksteady DH! The only substance he used was rice and beans baby!

  • EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDD-GAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I swear sometimes I still think I hear the fans calling it out at SAFECO! : ) True legend I hope he makes the HOF.

  • One of the very few hitters I have seen turn on a pitch to his hands for a home run, miss you Mr. Martinez.

  • Clocks - Coldplay

  • Leave.

This is a tribute to one of the greatest players in MLB history to be recorded.

No one wants to see your site.

  • Wow. Edgar was my MLB Hero and child hood idol. I think the Mariners need him a lot about now.

  • 18 years of joy for the mariners, i only got to see about 8 of those years, but he brings great memories.

  • The man is a legend.....

  • Probably the most disciplined hitter ever..Just simply a great hitter and he was always very patient at the plate and waited for his pitch.

  • yaaaaaaaaaay marniers !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • edgar martinez takes me back when I was growing up watching the mariners, fantastic player

  • edgar rocks... he simply rocks!!!

  • Edgar is the shit I miss him

  • @ChrisFlipsAlot hell ya mariners got the truest fans there are. WE BALL HARD IN SEATTLE

  • I watched him play in 2001 against the Rays in the month of June.

  • cant beleive hes not in the HOF! piece of shit voters dont they know who's edgar martinez.

  • @FadeToBlack509 He's a HOF Inductee.

  • with chone figgens and casey kotchman, the mariners are gonna be beast.

  • mariners for life

  • Coldplay

  • if there is any player that deserves to be in the Hall of fame then Mr.Edgar Martinez is one.

  • I'm a Yankee fan and I say YES ! Put him in the HOF. Extraordinary hitter.

  • Thank You Edgar~

  • HOF.... I hope there's not an East Coast Bias on this one

  • @JACKNCOKE223 I'm a Yankee fan...his performance against NYY in 95 is ingrained in my mind forever. If any DH gets in, it should be him.

  • Edgar Martinez belongs in the hall of fame,a great hitter plus it will add a touch of class to the hall, true.

  • guy was amazing

  • A class act all the way

  • there could not be a better man to win the game for us back in '95!!! we love you edgar!!!

  • #11) EDGAR MARTINEZ!!!!!!!!!!!: The best DH IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME. The SEATTLE MARINERS should've been RETIRED HIS NUMBER (#11) so what are they waitin' for? To ME, he's the best SEATTLE MARINERS player (JR bein' 2nd). Even though he doesn't hold the record for most Home Runs by a DH anymore, I'm really glad that MLB decided to name the DH award after his name (EDGAR MARTINEZ AWARD). All though he's third all-time in Home Runs by a DH (267), he still owns the record as the ALL-TIME LEADER.

  • They waiting for him to be in the Hall of Fame

  • They will in 2010.

  • Edgar absolutely belongs in the MLB Hall of Fame. The stats speak for themselves.

  • my favorite edgar moment was in 95 playoffs when he won the game (and series) against the Yankees down by one in the bottom of the 9th, two on Martinez double down the line scoring Cora and Griffy from first. That was one of the most exciting games

  • @Choad123 Don't forget his performance the previous game. 2 HRs, 7 RBI...one of which was an 8th inning grand slam that broke a tie game. Ridiculous.

  • one of the finest players on and off the field in an era of spoiled brats

  • Definitely a Hall of Famer. We have guys in the Hall of Fame who played shamefully bad defensively. Is it really that big of a difference to have Martinez, a DH, in there?

  • One of my fondest baseball memories was being in Baltimore when the M's were passing through and being able to catch a game. When Edgar stepped to the plate a solitary voice echoed "Edgarrrrrrrr, Edgarrrrrrrr" from the upper deck. He was loved and what is beautiful about pro-sports.

  • HALL OF FAME!!!

we need to define a bad era of baseball with somone who was clean, a good teammate, and pushed through adversity. it will be tough to get him in as all the NL voters will pout about him being a DH, but he cant help he tore his hamstring.

  • My favorite player. That's saying a lot when he was on the same roster with guys like Jay Buhner, Griffey, the Unit, and teams exploding with likeable guys.

  • He was by far my favorite baseball player and i'm all the way over here in Detroit Tiger country.I will be absolutely crushed if he's one of the names on the steroid list.

  • i was at that game best game ever ichiro getes 262!!!! and end of a baseball legend edgar is still remebered by every great mariners fan he will always be the greatest mariner every body knows that he is the greatest ball player ive ever known

  • Ken Griffey Jr is clearly the best baseball player from seattle.. Edgar is a close second. you cant include Ichiro in this because Ken and Edgar saved baseball in the NW during the 90s. Ken won 10 consecutive gold gloves and has over 400 home runs with the Ms

  • One of the best hitters of his time. Actually, he's probably one of the top 50 hitters of all time.

    .324 EqA, 147 OPS+ (adjusted; 45th all-time), .933 OPS (33rd) .312 BA, .418 OBP (22nd), .515 SLG%, 838 XBH (77th), 309 HR (109th), 1,631 RC (55th), 8.3 RC/G (not sure where that's ranked all time, but that's very good)

  • I have to say Ichiro will go down as the best Mariner ever but edgar was very great

  • ha good one. Ur forgetting about a little person called Ken griffey jr.

  • Edgar was nothing short of a god.

  • I wish he was the hitting coach for the Cleveland Indians! This guy new how to hit!

  • Edgar Martinez-

Simply the best baseball player to arise from Seattle. I mean, no one is like him. Baseball respects him, Seattle loves him, he's the game's best DH! I was so upset when he retired. This guy knew the game from the inside out. No ther players from Seattle have the art mastered like him. Not Ichiro, Not Griffey, not A-Rod, only Martinez. Baseball cannot shut him out from the Hall of Fame. He deserves it more than any player I know.

  • I completely agree. Edgar WAS the best mariner IS the best mariner and ALWAYS will be the best mariner. hes my favorite i have his jesey in my wall. along with griffey and boone

  • they are like th 3 best players that have been on the mariners

  • he could have left the team! (cough griffey) BUT NO! THE MARINERS ARE THE TEAM WITH THE BEST SPIRIT THATS WHY ICHIRO LOVES IT! MARTINEZ ID THE BEST DH EVER!

  • why? Thats like saying that no pitcher should be in the hall of fame because they don't bat, (if in NL, than suck at batting)

  • best DH ever!

  • I think it should be taken into account the fact that Edgar wasn't ALWAYS a DH. I remember him playing the infield, first or third base, during the early '90s.

Never mind the position. What counts is the numbers he racked up during his career!

  • thanx tiland

  • whats this song called? Great tribute, Edgar was amazing.

  • clocks by coldplay

  • just to add one thing...anyone who reaches 2000 hits and bats .300+ has almost always been a shoe-in for the Hall, regardless of the quality of their fielding ability

  • He needs to be in the Hall. Sure he was a DH, but he was more valuable to the M's in that role.

I still remember THE double like it was last night...i was 10, sitting on the floor in front of gma and gpa's tv, and when Griffey scored we about shook the house down screaming...damn i miss that team- edgar, the bone, griffey, a-rod (before pay-rod), dan wilson, tino, the unit...hell i miss bobby ayala lol

  • THE double!!!!

  • 6-2 baby!

  • he should be in the hall of fame

  • i grew up watching Edgar and will never forget him, true baseball player and a true mariner

  • why you talking about him like he's dead?

  • I love my Seattle teams, but it sucks to know we will never go all the way.

  • you dont know that.

  • The greatest Mariner to wear the uniform...

he easily could of left Seattle to join another team...ala Griffey...he stuck it out though...

    A true Mariner

  • @CuntLunch Griffey wanted to be like his dad, can you really blame him?

  • Yea right. If he would have juiced, he would have had more than his 309 Homeruns. He was a pure hitter.

  • champdog1 :

You wish.If he did he would have been better then Ivan Rodriguez and Bonds.

  • Juicer!

  • whats this song?

  • Clocks - Coldplay, a truly amazing song

Edgar Martinez = greatest player in Mariners history. He stayed with us, no matter what. And that puts him notches above Johnson and Griffey in my mind

  • nice slide show. well done.

  • lol the funniest thing is the way I know of Edgar is because of an old baseball game i have made in '99 .. It taught me my earliest knowledge of baseball outside Houston (Astros fan since '97). I remember the Mariners having Griffey, Edgar, Arod, and Randy Johnson. Later that year the Astros received Johnson and I was psyched. Edgar reminds me a ton of Biggio and Helton for that matter. None of them won a series but B and H got to go. No one is more deserving of a ring than them =)

  • EDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDGGGGARRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST DH OF ANY TEAM EVER. you could always count on him for the clutch hit unlike some former mariners mr. strikeout himself RICHIE SEXSON

  • People like Edgar played the game clean and people wonder if he should go to the hall of fame but A-Rod(I;m a Yankee fan) cheated and everyone says A-Rod should go in the Hall of Fame no question.

Sad so many clean players looking average to steroid players.

  • I remember growing up watching him play, and every at-bat in a home game you'd hear "EDDDDDDDDDGAAAAAARRRR!"

  • that was an awesome feeling. hearing the EDGAR chant. hahaha. he's truly one of a kind. I miss watching him. I was born in '92, and so i was barely old enough to understand what happened in 1995, but i vididly remmeber "The Double", and Griffeys smile at the bottom of the pile :P

  • great player. wish we could do a little better

  • edgar is the best!

  • Edgar was the Greatest.

  • My favourite Mariner. :) I grew up hearing "My oh My!"

  • I fell in love with 'Gar in 94, just in time to care about the 95 season. I will never forget his double or his Grand Slam in game 4. On top of being a fantastic athlete, he is an avid supporter of the Children's Hospital and many other community programs. What a tremendous man who is so deserving of being in the Hall of Fame.

  • oh man!!! i hear ya!!!

    edgar rocks!!!

  • Edgar Martinez is one of my favorite athletes of all time. I first became a fan of his in 1995 when he killed the Yankees. In 2003 I traveled to California to see some gymnastics and took a side trip to Seattle just to be able to see Edgar play before he retired. I will be in cooperstown when he gets into the Hall of Fame.

  • he will be officially qualified to go on the HOF ballot after 2009 (you have to wait 5 years) but he will go on the ballot and i think after a few tries (cuz bud seleig is a tool and he cant get over that fact that edgar spent a bunch of seasons as a DH) will go HOF

  • I remember one of the games i went to was when he came back from i believe was a knee injury. It was his first game back and it was against the A's. Right about the 7th inning i believe a fast ball came inside on him and he belted it over center field. Absolutely amazing! Edgar is a amazing person and baseball player. We miss ya edgar!

  • one of the best. ever. he deserves to be in the hall of fame, even though designated hitters just dont get that kind of recognition.

    he does deserve it.

  • How about Lou

  • I miss Edgar. :(

  • 'Gar was so awesome. The one guy who OWNED any pitcher. Was like a career .330 hitter off mariano rivera, hit career over .310 unreal.

  • Edgar was one of the hidden gems of MLB. A very quiet professional, with a solid swing, a steady eye and a heart of gold.

We need a few more Edgars right about now.

  • edgarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • My favorite Mariner. We could use some Edgars right about now.

  • Best D.H ever..no question!! and can anyone tell me the name of that song..Thank You!

  • its a song by Coldplay - I can't remember what the song is off the top of my head - its been a few years since I did the video, but it's coldplay for sure.

  • Clocks -Coldplay

  • man oh man...who is watching this video lately?? Edgar? did you watch it????

  • i was there in 95 as an 11 year old at the kingdome when he hit that double that scored Cora and Griffey to beat the yankees, thats my favorite baseball moment of all time

  • he's the shit, but I thought he had closer to 400 bombs...oh well.

  • How he ever got 15 triples blows my mind. Regardless, he is the true Mr. Mariner!

  • Edgar Martinez #11 The Greatest DH of all time! If relief pitchers can get into the Hall of fame then so should the greatest DH ever. If there is still justice in a juiced-world gone crazy let Edgar Martinez be voted into Cooperstown.

    PRUSSA

  • david ortiz was but em was very good

  • this guy was a legend. He probably one of the greatest players of all time just because of what he does outside of baseball. Unlike some players. COUGH COUGH ALEX YOU RICH SCUMBAG!

  • Nice job on the video... I agree with everyone else Edgar is what a baseball player is supposed to be. He was my favorite baseball player growing up. His stats may not have been impresive for how long he played but the way he played and how clutch he was in situations made him a legend not just for the northwest but everywhere.

  • best dh in baseball
