so emotive for me! really interesting how some people hate this and others really get into it. i had never heard anything like it in 2009, 'cause i hadn't listened to much electronic music then. gr and dg actually build their own machines and design their own sounds, they deserve kudos for that at least.
They are truly one of the music pioneers of this age, this is the kind of music i'll remember and enjoy in 20-30 years from now, with tangerine dream happened the same to me.
it's all right, not incredibly special, at least not this track. if one goes into the history of electronic music, none of the "new" electronic sounds are new or better than the old school stuff.
I have the version that came on the "They Keep Me Smiling" Comp many years ago and I've never been able to shake it. Haven't heard this one though. So nice. Not quite as haunting as the other but great.
I would gladly listen to anyone with a microkorg, two hours of practice, and the patience/motivation/balls to record 7 minutes of swelling arpeggiator loops.
if that's what you are satisfied with then go ahead and listen to it by all means. but i will tell you that there are tons of clips for free on you tube of 12 years kids with their microkorgs, 3 hours of practice and more than 7 minutes of it recorded. so, don't waste too much money on it when you can get it for free.
Fact is that there aren't much 12 year old's doing tangerine dream stuff, or better: most 12 year old never heard of it or do stuff like this on a microkorg. So what was your point exactly?
this did prefigure the rise of post-disco or hipster electro whatever you want to call it by a year or two i remember hearing it and being like well shit, that's what arpegiators are for
At one point, I really thought this would be the beginning mark for the new sound of our generation. It just sounds to me like all electronic devices slowly coming to life.
I agree. The build-up is wonderful. That's why I like it so much... the sound slowly unfolds and it's pleasant, not dragging like a lot of electronic tracks. It's like sex, basically :).

Best version from the single release, but the incredible 13 minute version on "The Days Of Mars" utterly destroys it.

anybody with a microkorg, two hours of practice, and one tangerine dream album can do something like this. Probably even better

To some degree you're right. It is still sounds great, though.

...? Are you crazy? Apart from the fact that they build their synths from scratch...

@GeriReig I am pretty sure though that each person who did so would come up with something different.
