Not impressive the white guy got him on this song sorry too wild I am guitarist Vernon Reid kick ass on Cult of Personality not this song he sounds horrible. I wish I could have played a solo on that song
This is one of a few songs Janet wrote herself and it fricken rocks. Vernon Reids' the sheeznitt met him at the namm show ages ago great talented folks Living Color
Jesse I think might have played the original I also think Nuno Bettencourt Extreme also did a version to either remix or the original this song was also from Rythm nation 1812
@lvanhalen : Part 1 - There are 4 guitarist credited on the original album track. Dave Barry, Jellybean Johnson, John Mclain and Jesse Johnson. Make your own guess about who played what since Jimmy & Terry weren't exactly sure when questioned about it in an article that appeared in Keyboard Magazine.
@lvanhalen : Part 2 - Actually, Jellybean Johnson produced the original track. So he'd be the dude to ask LOL!
As far as the remixes go Nuno Bettencourt has a solo & rhythm guitars on one
version. IIRC Jesse's featured on yet another remix on the b-side of the Maxi-Single. I think the version posted here featuring Vernon was the last to be released.
@kstrat Well thanks I play they should have credited me LOL!!! but they didnt but, Damn..... Vernons version the original and Nuno version very nice they all sound real good Im surprised they didnt credit me, they like my version LOL!!! Its all in good fun as a music lover thanks.4 the info.
@cvc1814: Cool..if you want to believe that. No slight against Janet but I'm a little leery of any production work credited to her on early albums that Jimmy & Terry produced. This is not to say she didn't have significant input. I just doubt that she performed the actual role of producer. Come to think of it I don't recall her even being listed as a co-producer for this track in the liner notes.
"He" was a "she". It's the same panther in Michael's Panther Dance video & she was a bit nervous posing with the cat, but obviously it turned out okay. BTW, the panther's name was Sasha.
YES!! Vernon is an awesome and Unique guitarist... he even worked with Jermaine in 1991 on "Rebel (With A Cause)"..a great new jack tune,imo...from his "You Said" LP.
Despite the song hasn't a good quality, Janet J. is a great songrwriter and Vernon Reid is in my humble opinion a little genius. As a famous critc said, he's the unique guitarist who has skills enough to stir bebop licks in heavy metal progression. He studied jazz, funk, blues (especially Hendrix), and he's also a good songwriter.
I thought this was Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme?

MJ's Thriller Cover had a Tiger, Janet has a black Panther. Love em both.

What a stunning album cover. Bagheera would be a good name for the splendid beast. I wonder if Janet was nervous when she posed with him?
