@Douwesiegersma I haven't read the review you're refering to but a lot of people write bad reviews because they are always looking for more than they pay for ex. they want a three hundred dollar guitar to sound and play like a 3000.00 guitar and when it dosen't they are upset you have my take on this instrument I like it I play it everyday and all others are intitled to theirs. if a prod gets all bad reviews then I'd stay away thanks
I just picked up this guitar, and I have to say that it is my favorite acoustic I own/ owned...its sounds and playability are amazing...Im even willing to say that my martin is pushed to the side because of this beauty! nice job Ovation.
@sr94526 al wood gives a richer tone this composite bowl gives ovation a uniqe sound I also have an all wood acustic *Yamaha * that I like to play also but as far as this guitar I love the feel of the neck and the body
As someone considering a guitar for performing live with ovation guitars are probuably perfect for me. Easy to change strings , tune. Electric acoustic. Comftorable shape. Must get one.
@afsartori the backs are made from a composite materal called Lyrachord with that rough surface on the outside and a smooth surface on the inside that needs no bracing which can block sound waves
@afsartori well it sounds different than an all wood guitar. but the sound is unique and it is ajustable acording to the eq settings I like the sound of an all wood guitar as well all wood gives you a deeper tone mostly but this guitar has a nice sound don't just judge it though pc speakers you need to play it to really listen to any insturment (remember this is only my bias opinon LOL)
I asked because I'm looking for an acoustic guitar that I can take everywhere. I need more of its acoustic sound than its electric capabilities. Happy 2011!
@afsartori even if you don't settle on an ovation think ahead of the benifits of an acuoustic / electric you can enhance your sound a lot with just a small practice amp with reverb like the roland micro cube which i use it will be a nice addition to the sound of your playing with any acustic guitar.
@afsartori hey thanks for this awesome little video. I just bought the same model in a KOA top Hawaiian wood. its not in stock yet , and i watched your review. it made me drool . some really neat stuff i didnt know about, like setting the action. thanks very much for taking the time to make this you tube vid.
Ovation guitars are really comfortable, but I don't like the sound too much. I prefer regular (not shallow) acoustics - Takamines are the best in my opinion.
Pretty awesome sound, played this nice thing yesterday in the city. i really think im going to buy it. but a question: if i plug it in into my marshall amp (for electric guitars), will it sound like a real acoustic guitare anymore?
@NeroGargoyl I don't have experience with this specific guitar, but acoustic/electric guitars in general sound just fine on the clean channel of an electric guitar amp
@tubpingu mid is approx standard width front to back as most acustics shallow is apporx half that I like the mid width but the shallow may be nice for someone with a small frame and or reach. you produce a little more sound from the mid but if you are using an amp that really won't matter much
I'm new to the world of guitars and came across this video by chance. Very good - very informative and helpful. Do you think this guitar would be a good model for a beginner?
Great review! I love my cc28, so much so I'm considering a tattoo of it soon, haha. I should note that I bought an Applause by Ovation, and its a really good acoustic but there's just nothing like the sound of a Celebrity. Amazing acoustic/electric model. Peace.
I had the same but in shallow body (cc 28) sold it because it was not easy to play, yet the sound was so beautiful and quite loud, much like a normal body yamaha. will get another ovation when i'll learn guitar well enough
That was absolutely brilliant thank you so much for this, I just ordered this guitar and you answered all the questions I was worried about, defo gonna try that lowering of action - sounds great, great video keep it up, Cheers!
I'm thinking about getting a guitar very similar to this. Just a few questions:
1. Is the back of the neck glossed over? I looked at some pictures and doesn't look too glossy, which is good.
2. As you move higher up the neck, to chords start to sound out of tune with each other. I notice on a lot of electrics the tuning between strings becomes very poor as you move further up the neck, but it sounds pretty good on this guitar.
1. How do you set up the intonation on guitars? Is it with the truss rod, or the saddle height, or a combination? Or can intonation not be changed? Thanks.
it depends of the type of guitar you have the intonation is set by adjustments to the bridge on acustics it's diff from electrics
if your not sure just look up setting the intonation here on youtube there are plenty of vids but all this is done with a good set up by a professional best way if you don't really know what your doing.
Great demonstration of the Ovation Acoustic/Electric. I also wanted to say that I believe that Keisha Coles production team owes you some money. At 7:05, that lick that you are playing sounds like her song Heaven Sent (gift from heaven). Check out her song, you may recognize the lick.
Great review! I have the exact guitar, and have done for last 4 years or so (despite having a large break inbetween)
I have now had 3 different guitar shops offer my prices on it, when I go to restring it! They always ask "Would you be willing to sell it?", always a good thing!
Are you still using standard strings or have you changed them?
I have not had a prov with feed back I am moderate with sound levels but I have had it up loud in an autotorium and I had no problem as long as I didn't stand in front of the amp facing it
Oh yea, i almost forgot. when you turn up the amp(guitar amp) decently loud, does it feedback like a mother?? my takamine does. i need to buy a soundhole cover
when u use a finger style it sounds really soft and smooth a nice round mellow sound but it can be brightened up with eq if desired I like it both for pick and finger style
great review man! your video camera picked up the beautiful detail on the spruce that i couldnt see on the guitarcenter image. i was thinking about getting the ovation GC057 super shallow, however, i was really looking for a medium sized bowl like yours for the price of the gc507. do you have any suggestions/tips you could share about the super shallow bodies? thansk!
I've never played the super shallows I've always like to have a thicker body when I play acustic the mid size bowl is comfortible and I would think the shallow might not project as well unpluged but if you are going thru an amp it wouldn't matter as much all my other guitars are thin I need a fat body one to even it out LOL. this is a really nice guitar for the price point.
heyy i have an ovation cc24s!! hahahah.. ovation guitars are awesome:D.. if i get more money to buy another ovation guitar, im thinking bout' buying this..
Im looking at getting this guitar, Your review has made me want it even more!! All i have to do is find a local dealer which around my area is slim pickings lol
would you recomend this for playing it unplugged and finger picking because i finger pick and i am on the road alot and dont feel like carrying my amp and great review by the way
I've been going back and forth between this guitar and and Ibanez AEL20E for the past month now, been reading reviews and such, but i've heard around that this guitar doesn't perform that great when its not hooked up to an amp. Would you agree with that or not?
I guess it depends on what you mean by perform if you are just speaking of sound projection I think it has medium volume not to loud but that depends on how you play. if you're speaking of tone I like the tone even when not hooked to my amp it's not to overly bright but one of the reasons I like it is because of the versitility the preamp brings just as all acustic elects the ability to contour the sound is the high point I use it with an amp when playing with the band and it sounds great
I think it's a very versitile guitar you can get a nice warm tone when playing finger style or with the use of the eq or a bright crisp sound with a pick or lots of bottom with the eq and bass boost.
Yes the pre amp works great with the 3bnd eq I can really set the sound to suit the room I'm in I don't get feed back from the pick up and it enhances the color of the sound well when left flat
that acoustic/electric didn't look like the other ones i've seen. I have a question with the guitar can you only make a heavier sound but not the sound of a rock group or can you. With the built in tuners thats sort of like the Gibson Robot guitars that tune themselves.
The guitar sounds like an acustic always, but you can still make it thiner or brighter with the eq (I didn't have time to go thru every sound posibility). You can still add distorsion on the amp and so on but the action is not like an electric (little higher heavyer strings). And by the push a button, tune your guitar comment I meant you push the button to turn on the on board tuner. It is not like gibsons robot guitar that tunes itself.
what dose it sound like when your amp in in over drive?

I guess it depends on what you mean by perform if you are just speaking of sound projection I think it has medium volume not to loud but that depends on how you play. if you're speaking of tone I like the tone even when not hooked to my amp it's not to overly bright but one of the reasons I like it is because of the versitility the preamp brings just as all acustic elects the ability to contour the sound is the high point I use it with an amp when playing with the band and it sounds great

that acoustic/electric didn't look like the other ones i've seen. I have a question with the guitar can you only make a heavier sound but not the sound of a rock group or can you. With the built in tuners thats sort of like the Gibson Robot guitars that tune themselves.
WellingtonReyes55 3 years ago
The guitar sounds like an acustic always, but you can still make it thiner or brighter with the eq (I didn't have time to go thru every sound posibility). You can still add distorsion on the amp and so on but the action is not like an electric (little higher heavyer strings). And by the push a button, tune your guitar comment I meant you push the button to turn on the on board tuner. It is not like gibsons robot guitar that tunes itself.
