(4) Furthermore, police force wanted to attract more higher educated people to join as constable, one salary starting point higher for F.3 and one more point for F. 5 (one annual increment point was $35 in 1974). Therefore, please pay attention to the video in which it said that if Ah XX got a high education, his monthly salary could be a thousand dollar. (End)
(3) Govt wanted to eliminate the corruption in police force so every junior officer was added $75 per-month as living. Hence, a contable could actually got $1,025 a month in Feb 1974 (was not included in basic salary and could be terminated when finance became better). (continue....)

Because the salary for both the police officers in Britain and Hong Kong was so low that was not enough to support a small family and the low income caused serious corruption among police officers, (continue ......)
This video is misleading. It should be "70s Hong Kong Police Recuitment".
As the salary was $320(Basic sal.)+$150(allowance) in late 60. In 73, the total income of a constable was a little bit more than $700. Until 74 and onward, the salary of a constable was up to thousand.
hahaha.....too hard sell! By the way, i loved to be a police when i was a little boy ( i guess many boys do. However, i am quite disappointed with hk police due to their violence towards citizen.......I hope the police force would improve their image and behaviour.
At that time, the entry academic requirement for a police constable is completion of Primary 6. the entry requirement for an inspector is Form 5 completed with 5 passes in HKCEE including English Language and Chinese Language.
Even British Army regulars wore shorts like that in those days...whenever they're posted to the sub-tropical. Same cut as proper Burmuda shorts really. Nothing unusual about them.
