if you have ever studied geology, plate tectonics and global warming you might realize what will happen when antarctica defrosts. currently greenland is on record as rising out of the sea at a rate of 1 inch per year (attributed to the ice melting). antarctica will also rise out of the sea (once enough ice melts) and is connected to every tectonic plate around the world, directly or indirectly. it has the potential to crack the earths crust and makes any other issue pale in comparison.

Increase in CO2 concentration has been linked to the increase in global temperature average. That's a different thing. Both are determined, measured, correlated and pretty much causatively linked. Since when is ice caps melting = water level rise?
When you put ice cubes in a cup of water, the density of the ice cubes causes the water to rise up. However, as the ice cubes melt, the water levels drops.
Unless I am misinformed, may someone clear this up for me?
The thing that I am curious about is why is the water level actually rising. As we already know, Venice is practically a city build in water. However, its been shown the water level is getting dangerously high there now.

If you completely submerged the ice in the water and then measured the water level, yes, you will end up with a lower water level than what you began with after it melts. Only thing is, floating pieces of ice aren't completely submerged. So to begin with, your starting water level is going to be lower than it was when your ice was completely submerged. Consequently, there will be NO difference in water levels after the free floating ice melts.

One fairly convincing theory is that the oceans aren't rising at all, its actually the sea floor rising due to natural geological growth, displacing the water further outwards. In that theory, the amount of water in the oceans isn't changing. The water that is displaced by growing underwater geological features, only has one place to go, further inland. That, IMO, is most likely responsible for rising ocean levels.
It's so frustrating when people post up statistics from past "warmings" in the earths NATURAL cycle. This is about a CHANGE in CLIMATE due to HUMANS. This is a MAN-MADE change. It doesn't matter that the average temperature 10,000+ years ago was 2 degrees above normal and then 5,000+ years ago dropped to 2 degrees below normal - these are NATURAL cycles.

May I remind you that Climate Change doesn't change the fact that winter still follows summer. If you bother to read the IPCC report you'll see that it excludes rapid dynamical ice flow because it is hard to predict. What Gore is showing is IF this rapid dynamical ice flow takes place, like half of Greenland and half of West antartica, 20 foot rises would occur.

The people who sent the emails were only speaking about discrepancies in tree ring width, when analyzing temperatures from prehistorical figures. This is hardly a refute of global warming, and is a prime example of why people should do the research for themselves.

if you have ever studied geology, plate tectonics and global warming you might realize what will happen when antarctica defrosts. currently greenland is on record as rising out of the sea at a rate of 1 inch per year (attributed to the ice melting). antarctica will also rise out of the sea (once enough ice melts) and is connected to every tectonic plate around the world, directly or indirectly. it has the potential to crack the earths crust and makes any other issue pale in comparison.

Increase in CO2 concentration has been linked to the increase in global temperature average. That's a different thing. Both are determined, measured, correlated and pretty much causatively linked. Since when is ice caps melting = water level rise?
When you put ice cubes in a cup of water, the density of the ice cubes causes the water to rise up. However, as the ice cubes melt, the water levels drops.
Unless I am misinformed, may someone clear this up for me?
The thing that I am curious about is why is the water level actually rising. As we already know, Venice is practically a city build in water. However, its been shown the water level is getting dangerously high there now.

If you completely submerged the ice in the water and then measured the water level, yes, you will end up with a lower water level than what you began with after it melts. Only thing is, floating pieces of ice aren't completely submerged. So to begin with, your starting water level is going to be lower than it was when your ice was completely submerged. Consequently, there will be NO difference in water levels after the free floating ice melts.

One fairly convincing theory is that the oceans aren't rising at all, its actually the sea floor rising due to natural geological growth, displacing the water further outwards. In that theory, the amount of water in the oceans isn't changing. The water that is displaced by growing underwater geological features, only has one place to go, further inland. That, IMO, is most likely responsible for rising ocean levels.

It's so frustrating when people post up statistics from past "warmings" in the earths NATURAL cycle. This is about a CHANGE in CLIMATE due to HUMANS. This is a MAN-MADE change. It doesn't matter that the average temperature 10,000+ years ago was 2 degrees above normal and then 5,000+ years ago dropped to 2 degrees below normal - these are NATURAL cycles.
What's happening right now is not normal, and is the fault of humans - and we need to undo past mistakes.

For those who have never heard of her she is a WWii P-38 "Lighting" abandon on the edge of the ice in Greenland on July 25, 1942, along with 24 others. May I remind you that Climate Change doesn't change the fact that winter still follows summer. Think about the difference between trying to predict high tide vs trying to predict the height of a particular wave. Climatological trends are measured in decades or centuries, not in days...

If you bother to read the IPCC report you'll see that it excludes rapid dynamical ice flow because it is hard to predict. What Gore is showing is IF this rapid dynamical ice flow takes place, like half of Greenland and half of West antartica, 20 foot rises would occur.
If you're going to present this, read it and explain the difference.

His company is also involved in the carbon credit trading firms around the world. Follow the money. He's worth over 100 million, and has made an overwhelming ammount since 2001 where he was worth a meare 1 million... CO2 does not deforest. It does not pollute water. Man deforists, and pollutes water, but that should be regulated.

How about the 30,000 scientists that the owner of the weather channel got together to sue Al Gore over "global warming"? 8,000 of which have PHD's. "Global Warming" was originally going to called "Global Cooling" when the theory was conceived. Personally (this is just my opinion) I think global warming was conceived to try to curb waste, and pollution. A purpose for people to rally behind if you will, if people thought it could kill them or the planet one day that's a pretty good incentive

In many cases Wikipedia lacks information because it isn't "an official source". I've found discrepancies here and there. I find it interesting especially when the pages are linked some have contradictory information on the same person or subject. So if you Wikipedia something, you should probably confirm the information through another source. The people who sent the emails were only speaking about discrepancies in tree ring width, when analyzing temperatures from prehistorical figures. This is hardly a refute of global warming, and is a prime example of why people should do the research for themselves.
As bad a source as wikipedia is for a reference, it is god's honest truth, in comparison with conservative commentators.
