  • Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial! I had no idea that I could use keynote with imove.

This opens a whole new way of being more creative while using imovie. Thanks again!!

  • how can i put the time like that on the desktop?

  • thx for the help

  • what's the song you used in this video?

  • Thanks for the information and putting it in a simple language to understand!

  • can you make text glow or have a glow outline like u can do with sony vegas

  • Aweome!

I made my intro and outro with Keynote!

    Its on my channel 😃

  • Could you possibly tell me how do you make the text dock icons? They look awesome!

  • Great text and image effects. Love you video's.

  • Matt, do you know if this functionality is broken in Lion? I cannot get the Quicktime movie to import into iMovie for the life of me. I've tried a bunch of formats, and nothing seems to work. Any thoughts? Thanks man. (Love your vids, btw! You do an awesome job!)

  • Is Keynote free?

  • @NoSevenProductions -Keynote is part of the iWork Software for Mac. You can buy it separately, by itself for 19.99 in the Mac App Store.

  • thank you so much, love your videos man...

  • MATT, where did u get that dock with just the words for your mac?

  • Thanks a lot! Sorry if you've already answered this question, but is there a way to place the animated text done on Keynote on top of the iMovie footage, so the video will be the background of the animation? Thanks again!

  • @raizenman Two ways: make the keynote background bright green and use a greenscreen in iMovie, or insert your video into Keynote, make in the bottom layer, then export it.

  • When I do this it makes my color fade.

  • I don't think theres anything you can't do Matt you're an inspiration...at least to me you are

  • Oh I want to correct myself: How to make a bar underneath you like in 0:05?

  • @TheRageRecords If you want to do it with Keynote, insert your video, make it the bottom layer, then export.

  • Hey Matt! I have a question: How can I only have a little bar, like the one's they use for the names of the riders in for example a salomon freeskiTV video?

Because when I make such a bar in Keynote, the white background comes with it and I just want the bar to appear in iMovie... what should I do? sorry for the bad english, I'm swiss :]

  • Will it work with PowerPoint - Mac?

  • Always a pleasure watching your videos Matt, greetings from Australia:)

  • It's Cool! :-)

    Good idea.

  • That Help Me Making A Cool Intro

    Thanks Matt

  • another great video Matt

  • What do you think about DigitalJuice Products? Will they work with iMovie, well maybe not all but in general.... Also wondering if Motion is a good alternative of After Effects?

  • @ilkecheez4444 haha. Awesome. Glad I could help.

  • WOW JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR, THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO

  • @lisacrofts Glad I could help! Let me know if you run into any problems.

  • @MattsMacintosh Matt, i've been to your Tumblr and all, but there's not so many pics there and since you are (or were, don' know) traveling I would like to see some more of the photographs you've taken. So, do you have a Flickr or some place else I can watch your photos?

  • @MattsMacintosh people like you deserve a cookie thank you so much love the videos

  • my photos i insert have white around it. how can you make the white invisible so you can see background? Thanks

  • @HBFXKing Select the image you want, and on the ribbon up the top, click the button that says 'Alpha'. Then click and drag on the image and the white background will disappear.

  • HEY MAT WHERE DO I GET KEYNOTE FROM? SOUND GREAT I JUST HAVENT HEARD OF IT BEFORE AND WOULD LOVE TO START USING IT.THANKS :)

  • @AngeliquesLOVE Apple website. It's part of the iWork pack.

  • @AngeliquesLOVE Mac only, of course.

  • @AngeliquesLOVE iWork '09

  • @AngeliquesLOVE or the Mac App store

  • Can I use this video in iDVD as an intro to a menu screen?

  • This is all stuff that can be done in After Effects, which you have much more control over anyways.

  • @Josiah77 Obviously. That's like saying a Porche is faster than a Civic. However, just as with the car example, AE astronomically more expensive and requires an extremely steep learning curve to use effectively. Here is a tip for successful YouTube videos: Know your audience. For the vast majority of people, Keynote offers the perfect solution for making basic motion graphics, and is a much better option that something like AE or Motion.

  • @MattsMacintosh could you do this with powerpoint? i have tried, but cant figure out how. i have subscibed, so please could you show a tutorial. thx

  • thank you very much.

  • Great again

  • Great tip, now I can attempt to make an motion graphic intro.

  • I've been using this technique since I first got my Mac in 2007 because I've become kinda a Keynote master so I can do some pretty cool stuff in there and animate it to get what I want which is the kind of thing I do for my current series because I don't have the time to figure it out in more advanced things like Final Cut and Motion. Btw, why do you have fixed timing? I don't quite get the significance in that.

  • Just used this tip for my project. Thanks Matt, you're awesome !

  • Thank you for posting this video It was very useful !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SOOOOOOOOO MUCH HELP THANKS SO MUCH

  • This is irrelevant but where'd you get your clock/date/weather in the top left corner of your desktop? It looks awesome

  • @Hillarie369 Its a geektool script

  • @MattsMacintosh I dont have the Share Option on my Keynote. Up the top.

Please help me and reply to this message ASAP!!!!

  • @pigstar909 What version of Keynote do you have? Also, just a general tip, asking for a reply "ASAP" doesn't help. It actually comes off a little abrasive.

  • @MattsMacintosh Haha Sorry. The Keynote I have is Keynote 08' and is version 4.0.4. Hope that helped! Thanks, and love ur vids!!

  • this is amazing!!! lol i wishi had found you when still used all Imovie xD

  • thanks. This was so helpful!

  • This was EXACTLY what I needed.

  • Can I use Powerpoint for mac 2011 instead of Keynote?

  • i am probably going to try this with text edit instead of keynote because i do not really want to buy anything...

  • Thank you so much! this really helped.

  • how do you get the spotlight over the mouse?

  • Thanks Matt...youshould make videos for Apple!!!! simple clear to the point....i did this first keynote still struggling to get music in sync any suggestions please ??? Body Painting a babe :) Rich youtube com/scorpionkustom i sent you the video still needs work :)

  • can you make a tutorial of how to put text over a video like how you did "Matts Macintosh" at the beginning?????

  • Is it possible to do the same thing with multiple slide in key note?

  • Good info... Can you solve this issue though: I made a multi-slide project in Keynote with 14 slides and transitions built in. When I export it as a Quicktime file, and then import it to iMovie, only the first 17 seconds (3-slides) carry into the iMovie project. I've tried several times changing different settings ect.

The exported Quicktime file on my desktop DOES show the entire Keynote project.

  • Where can i download Keynote please?

  • @OfficialAaronTV in the mac app store it's $20 :)

  • Thanks for this tip, I used it in my video "Chess with Nintendo"

  • Thank-you :D

  • Why do you upload in 720, not 1080? Isn't 1080 better?

  • @CelebrityGrill It depends on what the video is, sometimes I do upload in 1080. The problem is most people don’t watch in 1080, and even when they do they watch it on the smaller player instead of full screen or pop out (which is the only way to get real 1080), so it’s kind of a waste of bandwidth to upload in 1080 most times.

  • @CelebrityGrill Also, if your camera and/or screen resolution is 720p, there's no reason. The quality will stay the same then.

  • more video effects tutorials.........

  • Clever idea

  • You are my god :) Thanks for the help :)

  • How do you import a quicktime file into iMovie without making it a DV-file first? // Sincerely FK

  • Can you Please do a tutorial for the lower third text?

  • Love your videos! Can I please ask what video camera you use to film?

  • i imported mine to imovie 11 and it doesn't play theres just a black screen can any please please help!?!?

  • Great help. I am having some problems with the quality once i import to iMovie. Any suggestions?

  • Thanks! This is a good video and helps alot

  • thanks this was very helpful

  • Thanks so much for this video. You made it look crystal clear. How do you get your voiceover on the Keynote slide to transition or work with your actual video?

  • @workwithsusanna I do all my voiceover work in iMovie

  • @jaimejerezano1 Insert the video you want them to play over into keynote, back in the back layer, and follow the same steps.

  • awesome vid! but I didn't quite get how you make all the images come up at once...

  • Thnx man! This helped!

  • Hey, just one question, can you use the title font and the transition from keynote above a video in imovie?

  • Thanks for sharing. I am new to Macs and I was wondering how to do it

  • there's no share menu in keynote

  • @stonecrestmovies whoops my bad i found it

  • Your dock is..?

  • were did u get the nice keynote logo and imovie logo

  • u the Man!!!

  • THANK YOU! Cool tips.. Awesome....

  • You should also make a video on the "lower third text".

    Thanks again !

  • Great tip! Thanks for sharing! :)

    Love and Peace,

    Queen of Norway

  • hey

when i import it into imovie its showing two black bars on the side when it plays?

how do i make it fit ?

i checke it has nothing to do with imovie!!

    plz help thxs

  • This is outstanding and very helpful. I will share my video with you once I've got it done. Thanks, you Rock!!!

  • this is great!!!!!

  • I love your tutorial, I just make my movie using Keynote, follow your step by step,

    Great, thanks very much.

  • How did you make the lower third in the start of the video?

  • @patinatormariotis That's with keynote as well. I just load the finished video into keynote, add the text, and export the finished product.

  • @MattsMacintosh Can you show just exactly how you did that in another tutorial

  • Thank you!

  • I know how to export the video in Keynote 08! All you have to do is go to File > Export.

  • great tutorial.. makes me want to get keynote :)

  • Keynote and iMovie can do that? That's cool!

  • i use this too..i started with MS Word but moved on to Keynote

  • WHERES KEYNOTE!!!

  • can do superimpose the keynote title over the video like you have done in motion or FC but using iMovie ?

  • Yes, that is how I do the text within my videos

  • OK i am using iMovie '09 right now and i have set the background colour in keynote to Lime then i export it and open it in iMovie and use the Green Screen. IS this how you do it ?

  • No, but that way my work as well. I do it by inserting the video into Keynote (you can just drag and drop the file), then exporting the whole thing.

  • Comment removed

  • @MattsMacintosh I keep doing that and it doesn't work.. Grr lol

  • @MayraIsMe123 try using quiktime to screenrecord.

  • @MattsMacintosh oh that's how ya do it haha i was just about to ask you the same thing (about how to do the little text effects on screen) but how do you get the pictures to pop up at the time you want in keynote? or is that is iMovie?

  • lol. Ofcourse i do that a lot but did not think to do it in this case. I have even screen recorded the cool iTunes Visualizer and put it behind my video which looks cool. The green Screen works but the quality gets effected so i will stop trying this method ! Hey thanks heaps its great to talk to another person who seems to render as much as i do !

  • @MattsMacintosh Hello!!!!!!!!!. I was wondering if you could let me know how to avoid the blurriness when exporting keynote presentation to imovie???. It´s all blurry......

  • @cgjvirtualassist I use quiktime to screen record my computer while playing the keynote.

  • i used this way

  • Wow I have been doing this for 3 years and it never gets boring... Glad to see someone else doing similar things. I make alot of tutorials and i love Keynote , i also use the older iMovie '06 as well as it gives you more precise audio editing !

  • please do other videos like this..=D

  • I would love to see a video on how to make your dock icons!

  • aha didn't think anyone els did this. Guess I thought wrong lol

I made my intro with keynote.

It's on my channel check it out.

  • Nice vid again Matt.

Actually, this is similar to the technique I used for my RAID vids.

Allthough I used Open Office Presentation.

During the making of those videos I noticed how OO Presentation can't really compare to Powerpoint.

I never found how to make the slide in 16:10, so I just went with 4:3.

There might be a way to do it, but I did not find it. ;)

Never worked with any of the iWork apps, but from what I saw in your vid, I should definetly consider buying iWork. :)

  • what about the subtitles? lol is it just the same method?

  • Yep, its the same method. I'm going to put a video up showing that as well.

  • How did you get the worded dock?

  • I use a program called Candybar to customize my icons.

  • but why would you like to use 30 fps? our human eye can only see a maximum of 24fps, so there's no reason to use 30fps!

    Just thought...

    Greetings

  • that's a great tip. I will use that once I get a copy of iworks.

  • Excellent Video! You should do more screen casting! For the was very professional, the video quality was great, No mumbling, and you kept my attention for 3:20 ! I love your videos and once again Well done :)

  • Thanks, I really appreciate the comment. I've got some more videos planed similar to this one coming out soon.

  • keynote is definitely a great alternative to imovie for making titles/intros for videos :D

  • this is what steves mac fix does

  • yep. His last video made great use of keynote.

  • wow ty does this work for any pcs?

  • I never thought Keynote could actuay be used for making intros. Thanks Matt!

  • That is a crazy dock! I love it! you should do a video on that!

  • Thanks. Its the 2D lower dock option made with Candybar and some text icons from deviantArt

  • Another great video, Mr. Macintosh.

  • Well, thank you Ms. EnufForaMac

  • Great Tutorial! I used this same method to edit my last video. Thanks Matt!

  • Thank you sooo much. I don't have a mac, but I'll remember this for when I get one. I fav'ed. You make too many good videos!

  • Thank you for watching!

  • that was great - your a bit of a perfectionist like me

  • Audio is little off Matt.

  • Yeah, I noticed that.... its like half a second behind... Its fine on the original. Maybe just a YouTube issue.

  • what thing are you using to make your secondary monitor in portrait view i would love to get one of those?

  • Its an Ergotron monitor mount.

  • yep, nobody saw keynote coming

  • Very nice explained and very original

  • first ;D nice video
