For those whoare using AS 3.0 and want to link the buttons to other headers on other scenes

This just takes it to the root of the movie clip and finds the header :P

mouse events are permitted only for button instances..I double click on the description and both of them take me to the actions.

@rob71990 just had that problem. Simple solution, that people always make that mistake. When you put the code on the Actions... Select the object, not the frame. So in this case, select the Hit area, and not its frame on the timeline ;) remembered my teacher saying that at school ;)

I followed your tutorial step by step but there was a error with my flash button. I imported PNG files from photoshop to flash, as I want to create drop down shadow effect. Is that why coz this problem?

I'm stuck at the point where I'm trying to link the button. I do not wish to link to an outside website; I want to link to a frame within the original "page". If I tell it the standard "gotoAndStop (10)" then I'm sent to the 10th frame of the that menu bar and not to the original page where I want it to go. How do I "jump a level" and get navigating on the original page?

thanks to some judicious searching through the comments, I found the answer:

}

with "test" replaced with the number of the frame you wish to go to.

Hi! I think this tutorial is very awesome, but I'm blocked around 11:30..If I select just the contact button, and I press F9 to enter the ActionScript code, Cs3 tells me that's not possible to apply Actions on current selection. I can add the script if I select all the "navbarbuttons" layer, but when I try it, Flash reports me a sintax error on the first line. What can I do? Why I can't put the script if I select Contact Button only? I hope you can help me... And sorry for my bad english!

@TheRaw222 yes. u need to apply the geturl action on each button in flash for each of them to work (assuming ur using 1.0 or 2.0 actionscript). as for 3.0 as i have no idea. but u cannot do this in dreamweaver or whatever wysiwyg program ur using.

i built everything up to the initial drop down. for some odd reason after initiating stop(); on layer Action Script in the contact menu layers on fram1 1 adn frame 6. I also went back and gave an instance to the drop down menu button then went in to NavBar layer i slected the corresponding button and wrote the action script

and nothing plays, no error just no drop down when im in the test? WTF? have a deadline for a job tomarow.

Needed to publish the file as html in Flash with a transperant background.. then add it in as an absolute div layer on top of the existing page for it to be able to drop down over everything.. ;o)
