One of my favorite Civil War artillery stories was at the attack of Fort Gregg at Petesburg when the Federals climbed over the dirt walls they told a Confederate who was holding on to a lanyard of a 12 pdr with double canister ready to fire "Drop the lanyard or we'll fire!" the Confederate said "Then shoot and be damned!" then yanked the lanyard firing canister into the Union soldiers climbing over the wall then was shot by several Federals
@Hiramab1 Actually yes. The Rebs lamented over and over having to attack a position defended by Yankee artillery. One even said "The Yankee three-inch rifle was a dead shot at any distance under a mile. They could hit the end of a flour barrel more often than miss, unless the gunner got rattled." Union Artillery was also a big reason Antietam was a draw. A Southern officer observed, "The combination of Yankee artillery with Rebel infantry would make an army that could be beaten by no one."
@GeneralKenobiSIYE You're right but at First Manassas,Imboden's battery held off the Union advance on Henry House Hill. Union artillery had plentiful of guns during the war, that's the first reason why it was better.
00:19 nice civil war period correct watch & ring.. anyway the song is called Ashokan Farewell. its played 25+ times in the series Ken Burns: The civil war. The song is post civil war. during reconstruction. so i dont see why. anyway. nice shooting it must have been fun to finally but a live round inside. It was a 3 inch ordinance rifle i belive. so id like to see a shot much farther than those targets. considering thats what it was made for.
This is absolutely incredible! Last time I saw a cannon fire(blank) was at the 2003 Antietam reenactment and Ive wanted to see this ever since. Very very cool.....

@GeneralKenobiSIYE In other words metaphorically, "Americans are best when they're on the same team" :)
