Ohh, not to mention some of the white singers, like Kelly, Basia and Lisa Stansfield to name a few. She helped make the melismatic style of singing that in my opinion is overdone today popular. If you 're not singing from the heart with soul, melisma sucks but with Aretha you can truly feel the heart in what she sings with every squawl and melismatic scale(run) and in Jazz(scats) that she does, not to mention her vocal control and mellow tone, with a controlled quick vibrato. Excellent!!!

You can tell singers like Ledisi, Fantasia, Jill, Shanice, Chante, and even gospel singers like Twinkie, Karen and Dorinda went to skool on Aretha. And everytime Aretha did this song live she did a different run, inflection, or tone depending on the arrangement or mood. She is truly a masterful songbird. I understand even Luther and Kem went to "skool" on Aretha's vocal.

You would agree that her talent is really really extraordinary if you followed her music in 60's - 70's closely. Her soulful style is too special for other singers and no one can imitate that perfectly. She is the Queen of Soul period..

The story is always about their lives so there is no need to mess the story up with a person that doesn't sound like her. The temptation movie was good and Micheal Jackson too.
