The orchestra sounds absolutely incredible, and although I like Sierra Boggess, I agree the innocence isn't really there when she's belting. But she has a wonderful voice, especially after the crescendo at the end (0:35 onwards).

I don't like that they always change the key for the musicals. Gorgeous voices, but it's just not the same in a lower key and a throaty, rich voice. I honestly prefer the higher-pitched, nasal sound for the Disney princesses. ah well.

Shes good, but very aggressive. "Part of Your World" is kind of similar in tone to "Think of Me" in Phantom of the Opera, should be sung softer. That's my two cents anyway.

it's her microphone, I don't know if they still make it that conspicuous though, because if you compare clips from the original cast of Wicked with newer one's you only notice the mic on the older clips(it really stands out against Elphaba's forehead), but hey, whatever works !  lol

Yes, no one could really replace our "real Ariel." At times I think Sierra's softer or more moderate tones did characterize Ariel, but when she starts belting, I guess that's when I don't really feel the Ariel anymore in the character. For the parts Sierra is belting in, Jodi sang strong but remained consistent with the tone she was using throughout the song. Sierra is awesome, but again, Jodi is Ariel for me. ;)

I know what you mean, I had the same feeling, at first I was like WOW, but then I started to think...Ariel is sixteen, she shouldn't have this powerful voice....Jodi doesn't even belt, I think, and still she brings the same message :D But I can't help but loving Sierra anyway :)

that's not necessarily the case because opera singers can be very soft and yet still be heard over an orchestra, it's the belting notes tend to sound very aggressive (forced) and out of tune (by a semitone, so don't bash me right away) which kind of gets the person lost a little. I am guessing that's what izardi178 meant. I think Ariel's voice should belong to a woman who can sing soubrette than a belt.
