This is the first time i hear a good Mark V demo. Usually the ch1 demo is arpeggios, like a Metalicca ballad. Seriously... you can plug into your dads old stereo and get a passable sound to do that. CH3 demos and usually just dropped D chugging. You use this amp like I would.
@RezaMatix Oh good. Cause I played the combo version at the Mesa Boogie store in hollywood, and it kinda had a pop. Luckily I'm going for the stack. Thanks. Great review man.

Great performance! Best video on what this amp can do wit or without a pedal or two. Using a Les Paul or Humbucker equipt. axe? Sounds like one to my ear.
@cowboy66757 That could be because there are many other users that know many other different settings that work that have yet to have been discovered by viewers...
Still saving up for one! Awesome. The range of tone on this thing is amazing. He only demonstrates a few of the modes here.
All 3 channels have 3 different tone/gain modes. In addition, the first two channels can have diode or tube rectifiers and the 3rd channel can switch the power tubes from pentode to triode mode (which is what the mark IIc+ was.)
That's not even mentioning all the eq setting this thing is capable of.
this is amp is incredible...unfortunately after a few weeks i have to get rid of it :(. I will end up buying it as soon as i can again but for now family calls....if someone is interested message me...
I really like the sound of channel 2. I like these amps too because they say "Boogie" on them instead of "Mesa." Boogie just looks cooler than Mesa in my opinion but I know the sound is the most important thing and not what the amp looks like. Awesome playing BTW.
@stubee5150 yeah...something about that is classy. They did the to bring back that vibe of the old 70s/80s Boogies. I am buying this amp today!!! So excited.

Nice review Reza and great playing as well. Do you have a link to some band work you've done with this (and or from reading the comments...the Diezel)? Thanks. J
@427jim this fuzz/fizziness is unfortunately a tonality that cannot necessarily ever be removed from any of the recto amps. I owned a dual Rec that ran thru an oversized cab with eminence Texas heats and encountered the same probs. However running jj preamplifier tubes helped a bit (jj tubes are naturally a bit darker sounding) however I now own the mark v and gave nit looked back. Good luck dude
You've maybe at some point had vintage 30's and ability to compare. I have a roadster head paired with a vintage 30's 2/12 recto cab. Any thoughts on eminence speakers taming a recto's annoying upper midrange spike/fizz bomb? I've put this amp through all possible eq and volume settings and want a smoother sound in the drive channels without outboard eq.
Thanks for your answer. Still have the stock sc`s in my American Strat and love them for clean, but distorted sounds are too muddy. Thought of getting a Seymour duncan hot rail in the bridge as well to get just the sound you dailed in in channel two. Awesome...
@eneXeon Thx! No, for this video the guitar had a Seymour duncan hot rails in the bridge, a Dimarzio HS-1 in the middle and HS-2 in the neck, they have all been swapped out recently for Lindy Fralin Vintage Hots and the guitar sounds SO much better now.
@munchy040 Truthfully, for the really heavy tones i'd probably go for the diezel, however thats only for heavy tones. If you want true versatility and ultimate across the board tone, go for the mark v. if your only playing heavy metal (like Hatebreed or cannibal corpse) i'd go with the diezel, if you want versatility and metallica, lamb of god, and john petrucci tones, go with the mark v. CHEERS
Can you get all these great tones at an extremely low volume setting? I am considering getting one of these for bedroom studio recording but I have to be at an extremely low volume in my situation. Maybe I could even run one direct into the soundcard? Is that a possibility with this amp?
@frimpit I wouldnt do the soundcard thing with this amp, but im not sure you need to, this demo was in the 10 watt mode. It can be VERY toneful at low volumes...
@cast390 Not sure why I would ever do that with this amp...It has a 10 Watt MODE!, and it has a variac setting, which pretty much rules in the 10 watt mode...I would NEVER put an attenuator with this amp..seems like something you do to amps that have to be LOUD and turned way up to get to their sweet spot, this one isnt like that...
Looks like you don't have the EQ on channel 2 when your switching back and fourth with the 3rd channel? That would boost it significantly along with the additional gain on channel 3.
This amp is great for playing everything from Santana, and Dream Theater to Lamb of God, Metallica, Saosin. This amp is EXTREMELY versatile. @GabrielKore What is DT?? if lamb of god is what you like and they play this amp, then i think that answers your question. I dont think this is an expensive amp at all for all that you get. I sold it and got a Diezel which in my opinion is an expensive amp.
@RezaMatix dude, why didn't you run the output volume at maximum to get your power tubes to saturate....your in 10 watt mode, which is class A. you could have enjoyed the sweetness.
@RezaMatix, nooooo!!!, not the Diezel. You whore. how much did the mark V sell for? (not that i'm selling mine, i'm trying to sell my randall MTS rm100 2x12 combo)....btw, if you didn't crank the power power section, and run the preamp lower, you didn't really enjoy it...not to mention variac mode. Van Halen type brown sounds are in that amp, and soo much more than that.
@SwampAshHSS I put the mark v thru its paces in all settings and volumes. there is a reason after all I sold it. The diezel was just better for what Im doing musically right now. (btw-try not to call people you dont know whores..not polite)
@RezaMatix i'm sorry but the MESA/Boogie Mark V is sippaly the best amp in the world, i played one in a sound tight room, at full blast. and i eargasumed, sayin' i have G.A.S (that's 'Gear.Aqusition.Syndrom' for the un educated of us,) would be a understatment the size of Russia. to sell this amp is lik saying: "ya'know, this dimond is graet and all. but i think some coal would really be cool" buying a Mark V make's you a god amounst men, selling i my friend. is sacralige of the highest order!
@SwampAshHSS to each his own . mad respect for getting a tube amp anyways. you could be rolling in a Fractal Axe FX. That's a big deal today. didn't go for it myself. there coming around though. the whore line was a silly piece of humor, nothing more. i hope you are not really a whore in real life causing you did not get offended by it. Personally i think it's a legitimate way to make a living.
@GabrielKore hardcore sounds, really heavy riffs < satriani, vai, petrucci, and all that lame stuff...to answer ur question if all u care about is heavyness and br00talzzz tones and that BS dont look at a Mark V it has too much tone for that crap
How do you like the Octron? I was wondering what I should choose - the pog2 or the octron. I am not into the "organ" thing but I would like the pedal to handle playing at a minimum two notes at the same time or atleast handle playing an open string at the same time or in quick succession with playing a note on a string just below? How does the octron stack up? I know the pog can handle this but I like the analog sound of the octron. Help!? There aren't that many clips out on the web. Tx.
@xXlopoXx Dual Rectifier is more of a bottom end saturation style, the mark V is all about really strong mids. It has a much more musical voice imho, the dual rectifier is great if you are playing in Korn or Godsmack, the Mark V is better for Dream Theater or Santana..
@RezaMatix I disagree you can EQ this thing to get an equal amount of bottom. thats what the GEQ is for. The Dual Rec may carry more saturated distortion whereas the mark IV and V has more of solid sharp one. I dont really care for the Fizz on the Rectifier, its just Mesa's attempt to get a marshall tone
Yeah good idea, the thing is that my mark III was the right side of my stereo rig. The left/mono side is and will always be an orange rockerverb 100 :D
I can't really afford this one but I'm considering the 5:25 head which has everything i need. 2 channels, FX loop, somewhat high gain and it has both low and high wattage. As a Mesa boogie user, can you recommend mesa overall? do you think im going to be satisfied with it? :) answers are very appreciated.
no, if i had to choose a mea boogie it would def be the mark v only. i played all of them and this was the one I liked the most. but others might disagree...
@livewire78602 at the time the pickups were, seymour duncan hotrails in the bridge, dimarzio HS1 in the mid, HS2 in the neck, they have been since changed out to a set of Lindy Fralin Vintage hots (much better for vintage strat sounds)
jamiesea, mesa doesn't make a "mark v" series cab like the rectifier cabs. However, they did make a 1x12 closed back, widebody cab that they released at the same time that is labeled as the perfect match for a mark v. If you are looking for a smaller set-up that still has a huge sound, you should check it out. Perfect rig IMO. Hope this helps.
I'm using a vertical Recto 2x12 with V30's and love it. I do however use Fizzy Lifter blockers (just type that in on ebay) and it helped my sound cut through not only in the center of the cab but off to the sides. They are little hidden jewels. All in all, I love my V so far!
What's the price on this

That's a big deal today. didn't go for it myself. there coming around though. the whore line was a silly piece of humor, nothing more. i hope you are not really a whore in real life causing you did not get offended by it. Personally i think it's a legitimate way to make a living.
SwampAshHSS 1 year ago
@GabrielKore this is definitely a DT amp, petrucci uses it, and its used alot throughout black clouds and silver linings
jian2069 1 year ago
@GabrielKore hardcore sounds, really heavy riffs < satriani, vai, petrucci, and all that lame stuff...to answer ur question if all u care about is heavyness and br00talzzz tones and that BS dont look at a Mark V it has too much tone for that crap
Dreamscapevirus 1 year ago
@GabrielKore
Actually it's both, but i think you won't give much about my comment because i think all that lame stuff rules.

Tx.

@conrad4444 Octron is the real analog monster, the high octave has a fuzz to it so be aware..

how would this amp compare to the Dual Rectifier?
xXlopoXx 1 year ago
@xXlopoXx Dual Rectifier is more of a bottom end saturation style, the mark V is all about really strong mids. It has a much more musical voice imho, the dual rectifier is great if you are playing in Korn or Godsmack, the Mark V is better for Dream Theater or Santana..
RezaMatix 1 year ago
@RezaMatix I disagree you can EQ this thing to get an equal amount of bottom. thats what the GEQ is for. The Dual Rec may carry more saturated distortion whereas the mark IV and V has more of solid sharp one. I dont really care for the Fizz on the Rectifier, its just Mesa's attempt to get a marshall tone
Gyro911 1 year ago
@Gyro911 i think the dual rec is more mesas attempt at a soldano slo
Dreamscapevirus 1 year ago
@Dreamscapevirus And soldano's are meant to emulate a hot rodded marshall. Its all relative

thanks for the video man! Im thinking on changing my mark III for one of these. nice playing too!
danicgibson 2 years ago 2
@danicgibson i would keep the mark 3 and run them in stereo...but thats just me, i sold mine to upgrade to a diezel vh4...
RezaMatix 2 years ago
Yeah good idea, the thing is that my mark III was the right side of my stereo rig. The left/mono side is and will always be an orange rockerverb 100 :D
danicgibson 2 years ago
What kind of power tubes are you using in this video?
tempest63132 2 years ago
@tempest63132 Stock 6l6s that came with it.

This amplifier and the "Mesa Boogie Road King" are the best amps
cassalinson 2 years ago
@cassalinson Sorry, My Diezel VH4 kills this amp.
RezaMatix 2 years ago
haha, yeah, for 5 grand. That might be a potential draw back
SxTHUNDERxG 2 years ago
its not 5 grand, but its worth every penny of what is does cost...just try one out and see if you like it..
RezaMatix 2 years ago
i would have tried it looooong ago if any shop around me had one or would order one without a down payment
SxTHUNDERxG 2 years ago
I can't really afford this one but I'm considering the 5:25 head which has everything i need. 2 channels, FX loop, somewhat high gain and it has both low and high wattage. As a Mesa boogie user, can you recommend mesa overall? do you think im going to be satisfied with it? :) answers are very appreciated.
PatrikForLife 2 years ago
@PatrikForLife sure. its a nice amp. I sold mine and bought a Diezel VH4 which I like MUCH better..
RezaMatix 2 years ago
how much did you get this baby for 1,750??
4ofApocalypse 2 years ago
@4ofApocalypse NO, i bought it new. but I recently sold it for 1750.
RezaMatix 2 years ago
why did you sell it, would you recommend the iv over this?
4ofApocalypse 2 years ago
no, if i had to choose a mea boogie it would def be the mark v only. i played all of them and this was the one I liked the most. but others might disagree...

Great Review!!! Can you tell me if your strat is with single coils or humbuckers when doing this video? Thanks
livewire78602 2 years ago
@livewire78602 at the time the pickups were, seymour duncan hotrails in the bridge, dimarzio HS1 in the mid, HS2 in the neck, they have been since changed out to a set of Lindy Fralin Vintage hots (much better for vintage strat sounds)

nice playing! I am sure you will find that 45 Watts is just so much more intense, the response is so detail once you push the head a little!

This amp is loud enough with a 2x12 cab trust me black shadows rule
lolkittensomega 2 years ago
Do they make a specific cab for the Mark V head? If so, what is it and how much?
jamiesea 2 years ago
jamiesea, mesa doesn't make a "mark v" series cab like the rectifier cabs. However, they did make a 1x12 closed back, widebody cab that they released at the same time that is labeled as the perfect match for a mark v. If you are looking for a smaller set-up that still has a huge sound, you should check it out. Perfect rig IMO. Hope this helps.
Turtlebrew 2 years ago
I'm using a vertical Recto 2x12 with V30's and love it. I do however use Fizzy Lifter blockers (just type that in on ebay) and it helped my sound cut through not only in the center of the cab but off to the sides. They are little hidden jewels. All in all, I love my V so far!
