i have one of these and it is an amazing machine. i race motocross with it and all i have done is the suspension. this thing eats all the others alive! this thing is wicked and it definitely is not maitenance hungry. you dont have to do near as much motor work as you do on any other bike. buy one and you will never go back to anything else.
When I give mine some gas it sounds In-Cred-Ible... like all V twins on full song, they sound like the thunder at light speed. Mine sounded a "little" strangled when standard, trying to get a SEVENTY bhp bike down to 94 decibels for FIM regs is tricky as hell. Comparing it to lethal old CR500 on strait-thoughts is stupid, the standard pipes on most hi output bikes these days sound tinny. As soon as I put my Arrows on; now it sounds like what it is a F111 jet-fighter on afterburners.
Ride one of these for 60 seconds and you will just laugh when you try anything else. They have 70 bhp and it just comes and comes and comes in a way that you can ride to hell and back.
It seems aprilla just had to do something different,i mean a v twin configuration dirt bike that sounds like a lawn mower, what has the world come to,each to their own i guess..
@stu460 I would give them the benefit of doubt, a lot of people love them and they seem to be a pretty good bike, im kinda leaned int buying one myself. Not to mention SXV and RSV4 which are fuking awesome bikes...
...what about maintenance? are they as maintenance hungry as any other modern day 450 enduro or can you ride them for 12000 miles with just a regular oil check?
these are the best bikes out there done about 1700 miles on them, The rxv's in good hands run rings around any bike, any class, any era.
I read all the lies written about the rxv's in the press and almost did'nt bother riding one myself....now what I can't understand how they can keep these bikes secret, and out of supercross, it just show the money of the big 4 to buy our journalists and race organisers. If you try one you will buy one.
So much excellent engineering, so much advanced material science, so much hi-tech manufacturing technology, all of these wonders applied in a failed attempt to replace the performance of a simple KX500 dirt bike. The KX500 has equal power and it's weight is 60 pounds lighter. Four strokes have a long way to go.
If you think you are so tough on your KX500 then why aren't you out there winning world enduros? I'd say it was a fair effort for Aprilia, a road bike manufacturer, to manufacture a dirt bike such as the RXV. Give them a break mate, first year production... and the KX500 is way old now, look at the bikes that are up there on the podium, 200-300cc dingers and 250-550cc 4strokes which are bloody good bikes!
i would never say the new 450's etc are slow or shit, but to ask why the kx500's aint on the podium is abit silly, the 500 cc 2 stroke monsters of old, were band from open class as to many people died ... yes "DIED" riding them
@Supernumerary I would totally jump at the chance to ride a fourstroke that is comparable to my 02 kx500. I streeted it and it is simply a pain. The RXV just sounds sick!

Good for fuck all heavy, clumbersome, and the engine is very venerable to large rocks and even tree logs but these geissers would,nt know about that there pussies and them bikes are well suited 2 big noters like them they would,nt venture 2 far off the bitchuman!!!!!!!!!!WANNA BE,S THE LOT A YA,S!!!!!!!!!
um actually the aprilia is a very well made bike with a very well made engine, unlike the other 450's the aprilia is easyer to controll with alot more useable power
I saw my first one today, they just got to the western U.S. Its like a superbike compared to the normal dirtbikes, especially with that exhaust and V-twin
