If you're completely compassless, it helps to leave a trail of obviosly man-made blocks, like cobble or at least an occasional 2-high dirt tower.

Also, build up a tower on your house that can be seen from far away, with torches on it.

Of course, none of this matters, you're walking to the Far Lands :)

I know it's way too late for this, but DUUUDE I feel your pain... I was hopelessly lost 3 entire maps disatnce away from my house once... first time playing the game and that happened... I was lucky enough to find a chest with redstone in, so I made a compass and thankfully it helped a little :D But it was terrifying... and I cried :')

Just part of the randomly generated terrain, not supposed to be anything in particular. I don't think that they happen as frequently in more recent versions of the game though.

Your videos are awesome ^^ One quick thing though, I have no idea if you have improved on this on your newer videos, but that 'tchk' noise you randomly make at times (3:29-ish) is kind of getting on my nerves. You would have reached your house if you had stuck to the right at around 7:31. Around that time, you also went past some pumpkins. I recognized that patch from the when you took a few pumpkins back to your house in an earlier episode. But, I guess it's too late now. :( Ah well, keep it up!

That's why I never leave my spawning area before I have a compass.

You can re-watch the video to try to re-trace your steps. Or you can dig down from where you are, deep enough to find redstone, at which point you can craft a compass to help direct you home.

In the future, when wandering a ways, place a torch like every 25 steps or so. Doesn't cost too much, and in the worst case, when it gets dark you'll have a stream of lights to find your way back! Alternatively, set out in a cardinal direction (e.g. east), and then home is west. Hindsight is 20-20!
