awesome job, i just recently made my first penny stove, im very happy with how it performs so far. it is about the same size as yours, maybe slightly bigger, and less jets. i filled it half way with 91% isopropyl alcohol, and achieved a burn time of 1 hour and 10 minutes, i am going to do the boil test tomorrow to see how long it takes to boil water. then my next project is going to be the tin can rocket stove.
@Pneumaticcannon You can, but like I have said before, if you DON'T sand the two halves, then it will work like a glue after a complete burn-cycle. If you do, make sure that it is the high-temp JB Weld.
You are a smart young man, they don't make people like you any more. It's become a nanny state, no one is allowed to play like this these days. Well done. Well presented. Hope you go on to study at a university.
Will this stove still prime properly if you just pour some fuel into the depressed center and light it, rather than putting the entire stove into flame?
I have a feeling the performance was compromised by burning it on a relatively colder, massive, concrete floor. Heat intended 4 water quickly conducts 2 colder objects in contact with it and quickly radiated 2 cold objects within close proximity.
Try placing an insulated pad with a shiny, metalic, reflective surface underneath your burner, and retest your performance. Remember, the heavier your pot is, the more energy it will take to heat it.
not bad at all i must say ! good work ! ( glad i found the 2nd video almost missed it ) makes me want to dig out my coleman and go camping ! i dont know what you used for fuel but i got this 1 because it can run on gasoline or the normal coleman fuel. i liked having the option of burning more then 1 kind im betting alcohol would work as well
totally have to pre-heat, try putting it on concrete and pouring some fuel on the concrete and lighting the fuel on the concrete while the stove is in the pool that should prime it good enough for testing purposes
i made it and with 10 ml of alcohol works 6-7 minutes

What the burn time on this? I'm guessing about a half ounce to a two ounce capacity of fuel, have you done any tests to determine burn time?

If u get a bolt that reaches close to the bottem of the stove it will heat the alcohol by just priming the stove on the top. Try it it works great.

Will this stove still prime properly if you just pour some fuel into the depressed center and light it, rather than putting the entire stove into flame?
KingBerk104 2 years ago
no, because you have to get the alcohol vaporising to sustain a burn. lighting the alcohol on the top doesn't provide enough heat to do this.
