  • Russ is a great amateur coach, but can't seem to break into the pros. I think his personality is just too damn perky. I respect his work with Otis Grant, and totally agree with him stopping the fight with Roy Jones. He took a lot of criticism, but when you're been training someone since he was 12 years old, it's hard to watch him take a beating.

  • That guys feet are way too close together; almost parallel to the line. If he got he hit, wheres the balance?

  • Hmm looks like Tom Green also know boxing ....:D

  • he should have his elbows tucked in more so that he can't get hit in the body as easily

  • @codeman95291 If you have your elbows tucked in to protect your body, you can't protect your face. You're supposed to tuck your elbows in as the punch comes in. If you had your elbows tucked in 100% of the time, your face would be a prime target.

  • very good lesson, thks

  • Surely if you step back / forward before each jab a clever opponent will catch onto this and block each time you step?

  • nice

  • beyond a point do what suits you.

Have you seen vitali klitschko jab?

Complete opposite of this, yet he outjabs most of his opponents.

That style suits him.Lewis was different.Tyson was unique too.

  • Russ Anber is a good coach from the videos I've seen.

What he's basically saying is pushing off the backfoot and stepping in too much means you are no longer operating from long range, that it can make you fall into mid-range where you can be countered, therefore its best to draw a line in the sand and dont cross that line, now you can do that be edging up to that line with feints before you jab.

  • another good hint clse youre hands even when shaddow boxing because you will get into the habbit of keeping them open and break youre wrist

  • Thanks for the video this really helped!

  • This was actually really helpful and his explaination is comprehendable

  • just lookin for some advice on that double end bag video^^^

  • Despite everyone talking about how important the jab is, few really focus on making it as polished as it could be. Think of the top 20 boxers of all time, and count how many of them had only an average jab. That's some food for thought.

  • This is the proper way to teach the jab, a jab should be short, precise and quick. I disagree that you shouldn't step with the jab, as long as you don't lean forward with your chin past your front knee. Some trainer teach it differently and there isn't just one school of thought in boxing.

  • Thats gay how he lost against Rubio he was battering him! I reckon Lemieux needs to move on with his trainer and hire Freddy Roach :)

  • sick boxer, sick couch!

  • @MucMonsta Coach* Not 'couch' what a spell fail LOL

  • @Rchetwynd4 lol

  • Have you seen my boxing videos ?

  • Thnks *****(stars) good video

  • Good stuff

  • @YyJoBb yes, beacuse you can keep the distance with your jab.Its.But.. only in heavyweight division you can get big differences in heights,like...valuev-holyfield

  • Kids name is David Lemieux currently undefeated, record of 24 wins, 23 by knock out. Great fighter, the next star of boxing.

    New Zealand

  • @TalyaLexi1 Couldn't agree more, and I never thought he'd make it that far, now he's my all-time favorite boxer. I like the match he had with Delray Raines.

  • By the way remember kick to the front left knee if somebody boldhead comes to punch you in the street and tightly keep hands up. Stamp all the time to the knee. :D

  • This is a good vid for a beginner. Jabs vary from boxer to boxer though and someone has to find what works best for them. It might be a flicker jab, they might use it to wear down fighters like Holmes....Whatever it is the jab is the most important punch and should be practiced the most. It sets up most of the attacks, and keeps people from attacking you ;)

  • My comment/Question would be, leaning into the jab wount that expose you other shots?

  • @aky19832001 Not a good habit to do, but every pro still does it.

  • Bang! Good stuff.

  • i prefer the normal a-b jab without twisting its hand

  • hmm.. there's a few different Jab techniques that I know. one where you step in, which is more powerful, one where you step backwards, One where you Stand still, and another where you jab while leaning on your toes a little bit. these are all good, for me the "mobile jab" or the power jab is less effective because you can't set yourself up properly.. if you're standing still, you can bust out combos without moving. you can definitally mix it up, and find which one suits your liking.

  • I believe it might be something to do with teaching the boxer not to charge in blind with a jab. Teaching this way teaches someone to think before or develop awareness for flying into a shot Ricky Hatton style. As a fighter develops it will unltimately result in a single movement with the step in but with a developed sense of awareness when stepping in. There is similarities used in Karate involing placeent of feet with kicks for example.

  • ** instead of flying in Ricky Hatton style..

  • You don't need to step into the jab. The reason why they teach this is because fighters will tend to just chuck thier front foot forward with the jab without thier back foot catching up. It causes problems +why do alot of pros not step into the jab. Sure it may work just blindly leaping forward with the jab but like Dunky said when you go up with some-one experienced you can expect to end up looking like a tard, like with Mayweather vs Hatton.

  • Normal jabs you're not going to step into. Their used to setting up combos, or your power hand. Notice he's saying "Jab Jab Jab" not power jab, power jab, power jab.Power jabbing is stepping and swinging for the fences.

  • are you fucking stupid. you are saying russ anber sucks? his fighter david lemieux is 21 - 0. with 20 knockouts. and you are saying he sucks?

  • David Lemieux is fighting all Canadian fighters!!!! There are so many ways to Jab! Do what works for that fight!

  • @HannebauerNHK yes

  • @HannebauerNHK he's actually 24-0 with 23 knockouts lol...

  • @HannebauerNHK Seriously...this guy is a GREAT coach/boxer/analyst. Pays all the necessary attentionto detail.

  • @HannebauerNHK

    ask marco antonio rubio

  • @HannebauerNHK David Lemieux was koed

  • @HannebauerNHK WHEN he went on HBO to Fight this mex Fighter lol HE GOT KNOCK THE BLUCK out lol

  • They're***

  • Good instructions.

  • i disagree with his shuffling/stepping techniques...i mean i do this one but u can land the punch be4 the step its actually pretty easy

  • lol true

  • my coach taught me to throw the jab with ur leg placed forward.. but this technique is good where ur opponent doesn't know u are throwing a jab.. ill speak abt it with my coach..

  • can indians even box?

can u afford to go to the gym?

  • why not my boy.. u come here by seeing the slum dog show which is shown by the director when ur economy goes down.. nd he depicts all the odds in the show.. nd u say haa these people have nothin to eat nd go for boxing..u come nd watch india.. then u get the answer whether we go to gym or kick butts.. i guess u r some porkistani bastard showing urself as angrez madarchod..

  • lmao looks like ive made a little indian boy cry lmao.

you also start to speak indian? i also find amusing how you try assume im a pakistani LOL

come to shibuya, you'll see what boxing is all about. thats if you can afford it lol

but you still havent answered my questions.

  • keep the racism out!

youtube has enough racist little shits like you already.

  • am not abusing any one my frnd,,but me hiroshima counter part wants another tragedy in his entire country including its shit shibuya..

  • spoke to vishnu..he told me ghandi forced his 2 inch dick inside him

  • if u are a russian( bcoz i saw ur profile) i respect u..if not then fuck u ass hole..

  • There only racist behind the keyboard lol.

  • whats that got to with the video, you also might want to get an education. racist dick!

  • hey u racist ass hole..first u read properly whats the discussion goin on n speak u filthy shit..

  • you smell of curry..go and beg.

  • sure your coach did LMAO, if your so good, lets see a video of u sparring.

but for this video i think it doesn't get any more clearer then this.

  • I'm not so sure about the step forward first. My coach told me some guys could use that as a tell for when you're gonna throw the jab. Otherwise, some very good advice from a pro

  • You don't do it "first" you step "with" the jab

  • Ha I step forward when I box

  • noob

  • HA okay your surely a boxer yourself aren't you the best.

  • This guy really knows boxing...shut your faces and learn he was in Jean Pascals Corner when he won his "World championship" he knows what he s talking about.

  • his legs are to wide.. but it's oke

  • very nice :-)

  • no its good to step foward but make it one quick motoin

  • problem about his jab is hes not stepping into it, if he would step into the jab it would be alot easier to set up the next punch and he gets more reach if he steps in.

  • Good trainer. simple stuff. Simple stuff taught well hard to get, important to learn. Side note: fighter maybe droppping arm a little on withdrawing the jab?

  • Comment removed

  • That's a perfect jab! But his feet are too wide apart..

  • yea quick jab!..i think he knows his stance by now tho, hes only pro and undefeated...wider stance helps him create more distance (he is a lil on the shorter side) plus keeps you balanced

  • @alvon999 you stupid monkey

  • @Plato413 Please mind your language or else my hands are gonna shut your mouth ..

  • Comment removed

  • @alvon999 David is an inside counter puncher so he has a wider stance. Most of his knockouts are from inside body combo's. This works well for him.

  • @PugilistRick Oh .. I see .. Okay .. Thanks for the deeper explanation bro .. =), every boxers are indeed has their own style .. :)

  • @alvon999 stupid monkey

  • @alvon999 well it wasn't perfect then

  • @alvon999 shut up u fucking idiot

  • It looks easy but boxing training is tuff

  • As Dempsy said, if your foot lands first, you can say goodbye to a lot of potential power. I'd say both definitely have a use, but I'd rather be hit by the jab in this video than a good sharp stepping jab.

  • u think starting a age 19 is too Old?...BEcause i finnaly found a TRAINER N' hes one of the best...Plz reply bk*I'm a female wanted to train since i was 9 or ten

  • I'm just about to start boxing, but i know a bit about it and i have seen many clubs and heard a lot of trainers say that you can do it at any age and state of physical fitness so yeah i guess it's not too late :/

  • You either have it or your dont. you can train for years and years and still not be pro, some people it comes naturally, some people learn faster than others, age dont matter, if ur gonna be pro, ur gonna be pro.

  • Good point, well made captain.

  • Bernard Hopkins started boxing at the age of 23 . i don't think you're to late.

  • no....it is age when his pro debut.

    he started boxing younger.

he had several tens of fights in amateur

    before professional debut.

  • Lol, no he didn't. He boxed when he was a kid, then he quit and went to the streets. I think he made his pro career at 23 around the time he got out of the pen.

  • Kid name David was Better... David is Pro Now. This is very good Coach.

  • moonrock-have you ever seen the pinguin? By the way, that boys name is David Lemieux-check his pro fights.

  • this kid is 9-0 with 9 KO's

  • Feet are too wide apart. The guy moves like a pinguin.

  • yea watch him box tho, bet you wont say that

  • I am trying to get into boxing, and is it too late for me to start boxing? I'm 14 years old.

  • Not at all, you'll be fine. People are starting boxing much later now. Boys in my gym are starting as late as 20. If you plan to go into amateur boxing the cut off age is some where over 30years old (i can't remember the exact age). The sooner you start the better, believe me (i was a late starter). Get down a gym find a good coach and do whatever he says. And have fun.

  • LOllllll 14??? hahah......i dont think so....

  • Why too late? No.

  • heck no its not to late feel free to drop me a line i help you out as much as i can

  • hahaha no 14 thats not to old

  • NO, perfect time to start actually

  • im 14 too and i want to start boxing... parents wont let me =(

  • tell em it's dead safe as it actually is (y)

  • he is a relly good trainer, i recomend ths guy one of the best, turning beginrs into pros

  • Excellent.

  • I just started boxing a couple of weeks ago, and they never learned me this basic stuff, they just threw me into the guys who´ve been doing it for yrs, and i always get to spare with the guys who´ve have long arms and muscles like basketballs, and they beat the shit outta me, but im still standing :D anyway, this vid is grt, and ive learned more on all the vids than 3 days practice, so thx for uploading this!!

  • you go to a terrible school. consider finding a new one.

  • hahaha, yea you are prob right, ;)

  • Ditch that school. Boxing ISN'T about getting beat up.

  • this is the most basic.. very2 important. u can get crisp and fast jabs just by using shoulders. imagine if u incorporate the push off from the rear leg 2gether. it will set up 4 most shots. check out ike quartey workout vids. look at his jab.. sweeeett

  • respectfully i gotta differ with ross here. there is a time and place for the quick step jab! the jab is your longest weapon and coupled with a good step it boosts penetration and the quick weight transfer can turn the humble jab into a power shot. this i learned from 1st hand experience.

  • i'm sure alot of ppl watchin this a legit boxers... this is good for some beginers tho... like me, lol.

  • good for all id say.

its amazing how many good boxers do the very basics a bit wrong and would benefit from sharpening up

  • sps

  • when people say "push with the jab" they dont mean step forward into it, they mean throw your upper body into it slightly, giving you more range and more power, you cant just stand in the same spot and throw a jab with your arm, it wont be effective

  • also use your shoulder not your arm

  • btw i agree with hxcmexi, even a little step in eaither diagonal dierection, just to add the angle,so your harder to hit, and landing with more force,

  • simpon= dick lol

  • you learn to fight on the street

  • idk man. i dont like that rythym then jab on ur foot. what if ur opponent does a rythym and goes forward or backwards. ur opponent can be out of reach and can come up with a right uppercut right on ur chin. its better to step while jabbin. if ur moving back from an opponent yes it would be best if you do rythym jab rythym jab but never going forward

  • this guy is good, he got some nice tips!

  • ur one sad lil boi

  • i go on youtube just to look at the arguements down below :)..

  • haha me too.

  • i thought i was the only 1

  • i do it to man :) its funny.

  • LOL !!! same

  • shut the fuck up dulle20, u know nothing of boxing or proper grammar. You are the type of person that gives America a bad name. Go fuck yourself with an egg plant bitch.

  • yes you offendet me by calling me dickhaed and idiot, so the next time be more carefull whit your words!! you love boxing and thats ok but i am boxing for a long time now!

  • this thing is good only in defense when you are moving back away from your apponents attack and you throw a few fast jabs!

  • ATTENTION! ATTENTION! u dickhead. at the beginning of the video, he said what he thinks is the best for whatever he talks about. if the trainer is so shit, how can david shown on this video is now undefeated 19 year old pro? 11 win all coming by way of ko. he is promising boxer. you said shit about jabbing like a beast. ok.. fine.. have you not noticed that its easy to make punch miss? if you jab with full power and miss, your opponent will be in more range to hit u hard. idiot

  • Comment removed

  • what he is saying is sound and a good base to start off but everyone finds whats best for them in stance and throwing punches. i was taught to stand more side on. but i was comfatable with a more front on stance. and i loved throwing my whole body behind a jab and stunning my opponents. take a few steps back as if he has you on the back foot them wham come straight at them. worked for me but maybe not others. its what u are comfatable with.

  • whats your problem he is right the guy demonstrating dosent look so good but what he is saying is so true.

  • yeah he said its a mili second before your hand comes out. im think he means right when you move forward, and your foot hits the ground, you throw it out. If you jab and step forward, they can hit you and you have no balance. The other way, you step up having balance, and you quickly jab. meh thats my guess

  • ok ur gay.

  • stepping in with a jab outweighs the cons when u're an inboxer and u know ur range... wtf is he saying it's a bad mistake.

  • The trainer is Russ Anber. The fighter is David Lemieux, who happened to go a while ago and is 9-0. Look him up.

  • Lipa.

  • thx

  • guy on the right is on tsn ( atleast he is in canada)

  • I don´t know the name of this guy but his videos are AWSOME, he is a realy technical instructor, and his videos are great. Please keep posting

  • I learned my very first boxing training from these videos

  • this is to Supper30, To throw a faster jab, you 1st relax your hand and your arm that your going to throw with, then you throw it at the person your throwing at, and when your hand is about to hit, flex your arm

  • I enjoyed the instruction I agree who heartedly, if you move or jump forward..I see it comming I'll just dodge to my right and lay you out with a right cross. but even still Im a Thai Boxer and even though the punches are the same the approaches are slightly altered, I believe when it boils down to it it's about you being a concious fighter and what works best for you in the end.

  • i push off plus i bend my knees ..this dude aint doin either.

  • How are you going to reach with out stepping? What happens if your Opponent is taller than You? He'll jab you to death because you will come out short.

  • he might have been doing this for six years but why are his elbows flaring.and why is his stance so wide.

  • yeah his stance is pretty wide... his opponent (if smart) wud try 2 keep him off balance, and giv him a nice hook 2 put him down!

  • He's now a 9-0 pro with 9 KOs, so I suppose his opponents are asking him that just before he K's them the F O.

  • Great coaching. If"throw" urself when jab u put ur chin out over knee1)loss of power coz feet not firmly grounded2)loss of balance/control as u r "in flight"jumping @ target. Good athletes get away w/this coz they r fast and "jump around"looks good for judges(pro, not amtr)but takes away power.3)Loss of defense coz it places ur chin over knee and u can get timed w/ uppercut.4)Fast Out/Fast In. Lunging/jumping leads to dropping jab/"posing" rather than returning jab to chin to protect.

  • if you throw your whole body foreward you throw yourself off balance.

  • How do u make the jab faster ??:S

plz send me a message of how u can do that..

  • thiz guy rulez

  • thanks, its helpin me out

  • i was goona watch, but right off the bat the kid's feet are about six feet apart like he's gonna do a cheerleader split...fuhgetaboutit.

  • just atrted boxing in korea. trainer doesn't speak english and i've so many questions i don't know where to begin. just back from a sparring session which went quite well though. did finding myself thinking on numerous occasions "shit, now what?"

  • the proper way to stand is to have about a foot side to side distance between his 2 legs. the toes of his right foot should be right where the left leg hill is, but a foot to the right. so if u draw a horizontal line from right to left, the toes of his right foot should barely touch the line from one side, and the hill of the left foot from the other side. but this guys right foot is like 2.5 feet back. which is wrong.

  • his right leg is too far behind, and it is also in the toes, so the hill is up in the air if u pay attention. that means he's not standing balanced, that means he's putting more pressure on his left leg than, his right one.

  • vahagnatonyan, thats the dumbest thing ive heard. seriously. the reason why his right leg has his back foot in the air is so he can put his whole body in motion to make his right hand hit harder and faster. do u even do boxing? idiot..

  • fuck you fuck you, andnnnn fuck you, dont have time to waste on u, bye bye

  • you just did, idiot. and u say that because you know im right. loser.

  • fuck u very much.

  • Thanks for this, needed help with a proper jab (as I am self training before I seek a proper trainer). Will check out your other tips.

  • hai i wanted to say that i practice kickboxing in holland and we say that he is standing on an skateboard you need to have your feet about onder your sholder do not bring your back lag to far back otherwise you take a lowkick and fall

im sorry for my bad english.
