you can switch between two sets of items on the main screen, one set for one button and the other for another button. the first set is a boomerang, bow, and explosive rat. the second set is a double jump feather, hookshot, and chicken that flies you around. the game gets more difficult with the other items.

Some hasty and possibly bad design choices, given the nature of the game.

you should be able to jump back up regardless of which item you chose. the double-jump lets you jump high enough, the hook shot lets you grab any part of the ceiling and the chicken gives you basically infinite jump height. so idk what the problem was : /
