  • You have a great tone! What do you play on?

  • The pianist is just as good as the flutist if not better.

  • Dang. This was my BNCOC audition. He kilt it. He's a beast. His tone is awesome

  • Well... I'm gonna perform it this speed for now. But one day, I'll do it more up to tempo. Otherwise, slower tempo doesn't take away from the energy, and particularly in your performance imo. :)

  • awesome stuff!!...nice to see another guy playing flute

  • You did an amazing job on this piece, you proved everyone wrong who says that guys can't play flute.

  • Love this interpretation! ahhh, such a good job in my opinion :)

  • You have a really awesome tone. How old are ya here?

  • Ha never would expect such great flute playing from such an unrelated username

  • um, i just wanna say that anyone that has issues with your tempos must not be able to play it well enough themselves ;-) Nice job!! This is NOT an easy piece to play, as seemingly easy as the flute part can appear.

  • Inspiration

  • your sound is rockin'!

  • You look so pleased after you finish that scale run. xD

  • I'm playing this piece for a jury this semester. Great interpretation! How about that scale on the third page ... talk about ugh. :P

  • I'm related to him(: haha.

  • y los créditos para el flautista?, creo que también se los merece no?, gran interpretación.

  • i think that the tempo was a bit slow in the first movement, but you are one of the few flutist besides nina perlove i have heard that plays this musically. its beautiful.

  • absolutely amazingggggg great tone and clarity!

  • personally i think you did a wonderful job. i'm not sure what some of these other people are saying. i played this piece a little while ago as well, (just the first movement), and i wish i had a better flute so help with my performing.. just not in the budget right now. haha. shoot me, i know... i play a Gemeinhardt... haha. what kind of flute do you have?

  • @fmscoobs37 he plays a nagahara

  • What's the tempo you played this at? I'm playing the first movement for an audition and I REALLY like this tempo - everything is clear and concise! Thanks in advance, wonderful performance!

  • you have totally inspired me to learn this piece. that was simply amazing. what are you doing now?

  • Comment removed

  • you have a great energy and strong technique. You can keep that energy w/o having to move around so much and that'll fix a lot of your cracks. I'm playing this piece in school right now, it's hard not to dance and move around, but it really helps your sound all in all, in the end.

  • oh gawd this seems like such a fun song >.< wish i had played it back in the days when i actually was practicing XD

  • I think you're absolutely amazing. You have a beautiful tone. You play this piece so well. I love this piece and i'm going to play it for my lmus. I loved it! Keep at it. :)

  • Nice colour changes! And your facial expressions made for an enjoyable performance

  • Nice colour changes!

  • i love Muczynski-- great performance daniel .... so much jazz in his writting .. great rhythmic ideas.. rhsc nyc

  • Awesome! :) LOVE YOUR BURBERRY TIE BTW! :) :) :)

  • great playing! thats pretty much all i got to say! lol

    :P

  • @flutethomas i don't know man write him a letter yourself if you're so upset about it. that's what my teacher told me... she's a college professor and a pretty reliable source.

  • actually this composer is getting known... many flute players are playing his pieces.

Also, you have very good performances. Congrats.

  • I'm sorry... I am flute player and I have to say, I just found most of this boring...

Not that you weren't doing anything with it! Because you were.

  • My teacher played this when earning her doctorate degree and she wrote Muczynski a letter about the tempos. His metronome was broken when he wrote the piece. Your tempos are correct.

  • Wow, not only are your articulation and technique fantastic, but the expressions on your face and your whole attitude make this so fun to watch! Bravo!

  • Lots of cracking... but over all pretty good.

  • Ending was epic.

  • Hey! Good job. I also did a recording of this - check it out in the video response =)

  • Amazing! makes me feel like dancing

  • Wow! Awesome!!

  • oh my god i didn't realise you did the second movement as well. that is mind-blowing

  • I love your embouchure on the lower notes of the piece. Muczynski is really unknown, but i love him his pieces are so avante-garde and uncaring, I'm currently learning this piece at a slightly faster tempo than you're playing it but you seem to actually have the hang of it, may try it slower sometime...

  • @kongabeatz not to nay-say or anything, but it's always best to learn things slow and work them up faster for me. But what do I know? Good luck this is a tough one.

  • Hehe, lacking SmartMusic or a similar program to practise this with accompaniment, I cranked up this video and played along with it =)

  • you are very very talented... and the white belt =) looking nice =D

    go on like this!!!

  • I wonder, have you ever considered using a Foster Extension? With your clear tone and great articulation clarity, i am curious to hear how it would sound with your flute... I have one and never play without it now...

  • white belt? ;) lol. The first movement is a bit slow for me, but you're a very good player and great to watch. I think we may be generaltional friendly rivals :)

  • Great job. I love Muczynski's pieces for flute. You have the perfect technique for what all of his compositions require. When I studied flute in college, I tried to get my hands on everything he did. You sound GREAT! :)

  • Wow !

I really like how you play it. (and all your other videos..) It is very mysterious and intriguing. Lot better than others version.

I wasn't happy to play this sonata, but after hearing you, I'll happily practice it :p

I also like your attitude. You don't seem to be nervous at all. Do you have any trick ?

The only thing I don't like is the way you hold your flute. I'm not a "parrallel to the ground flute" fan, but a little bit higher could make you look even more better :p

  • Wow!You have an amazing tone and technique!I'm inspired...I'm doing the first movement for solo & ensemble and love to play along with your video to practice (although I don't do it NEARLY so well!)

  • Sorry for you not liking my tempos, but it's a pretty subjective thing i must say. I've noticed....... that..... you have..... a very rude...... tone. So i'm not gonna comment further, but again sorry if you do not like my tempos. Others do

  • :DDD ur amazing at flute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P i play flute and im a guy too.... and idk if i wanna major in music or not, but you're definitely an inspiration! :D most ppl think that flute is gay, but nahh lol, wat kind of flute do u use? and how old are u?>

  • @Carnivorious

I'm sorr Kenny, You don't deserve this

    @lepantog33

He has one of the first publicly recorded videos of this Sonata on youtube, has accomplished things that others couldn't even dream of, and he doesn't need imbeciles like you trying to hurt his feelings because those imbeciles like you have some insecurites in their flute playing(or attempt there of :p)

    @Carnivorius

As soon as I saw this video, I coudn't stop watching, Great job, once again.

  • @Carnivorious I like your tempo. It's not the 'half-note=96' suggested but it's clean and works very well. I have too often heard people make a butchery of it at a faster tempo. As for lepantog33's comments, I find that so many flute players are needlessly rude. They will take a perfectly good performance and attack it without mercy. Perhaps a lack of security? Keep up the great work!

  • @Carnivorious Go You! :) lol you made... a......very valid.....point.

Btw your flute playing is fantastic! I look up to you in the sense that you are kinda amazing at the flute ..... I'm a Junior ( 11th Year) in High-school in the U.S. and I'm playing this piece now. Hope I can play it as well as you! I hope you go far in life!

  • If you play things slower you can actually feel the music with more ease! Also, if you think playing things slower is easy... well... you're so wrong! Playing this slower requires a cleaner technique and control because that mistakes are more noticeable

  • dude wtf is your problem? are you just attacking him because he's insanely talented and you're jealous or what? let him play the way he wants! and what do you mean "finally play evenly?" everything i have heard so far has be incredibly accurate and even so stop being a jerk to him.

Carnivorious, you are an exceptional flute player. You inspire me to work even harder than i already do at getting better at flute. Keep posting awesome viideos. You are truly talented and gifted!

  • @lepantog33 Who the hell do you think you are? I would love to meet you in real life and hear how you play. I can't imagine it would be very good given your arrogance.

  • @Carnivorious I personally think you played a bit on the safe side, but I still think you did a very admirable job and clearly looked like you were enjoying the performance which was fantastic to see. You have very good stage presence, a rare quality in my opinion. Keep up the good work, i think you will only go higher from here. Btw, your pianist was very good! It's always a privilege to be able to work with a fine pianist like that.

  • @lepantog33 robert mucyzynski curses u from the dead...

  • I'm an instant fan. You, gosh... You are seriously good. Love what you put into the music. The accompanist is crazy good, too.

Maaaan. Never stop, I mean... NEVER stop playing.

  • By the way, you're gorgeous and I love your style :D

  • nice job! you have a really nice tune!you make the piece look easier than it is! how long are you playing the flute?

  • Is that Ludovico Einaudi as the page-turner? ;)

  • I love this sonata. I learnt the 3 preludes for flute and now trying to master this sonata, completed mvt 3 and working on mvt 2 but love all of them...just speed gotta master!

  • Nice performance. Alexander Murray (former principal LSO) used to have his students play that years ago when I studied with him. We liked it a lot.

  • oh, i like this one...nice job! I was recently given Muczynski's "Three Preludes" and I fell in love with the style...it's almost jazzy (isn't he a jazz flute player?...the composer, I mean). Anyway, I agree, I hope he gets played more often...

  • hm.. well i ain't :s

  • im sure your not...it just makes guys look gay.

  • @Carnivorious i acutally lik it lol shows u got style ;P

  • @vivace737

knowing what type of plaid that is makes you look gay

  • I wish I was as good as him we are trying for the solos and I hope I am one half as good as him

  • nice belt.

  • how old were you when you performed this?

  • I must have been 18..

  • btw, did you miss the last high f in the 1st mvt? just curious. maybe i just didn't hear it. i love the 2nd mvt, it sounds kind of "irish-y" on the majority of the 1st pg (of the flute part)!!! and then a kind of modulated version at the beginning and end..cool! great playing too!

  • haha.. yeah missed it.

  • your articulation is sooo perfect, and there is so much energy in your sound. passionate, intelligent playing.

  • P.S. You're a cutie.

  • ah im playing this, its hard as shit.

  • really? i'm playing it right now too, and it doesn't seem that hard... but then again, i'm only doing the 1st 2 mvts & i didn't look at the last 2..

  • mvt 1 at the written tempo is killer...

  • hmm, maybe it's just because i like playing fast pieces.

  • Actually Robert Muczynski has written extensively for the Wind Instruments...one of my favorite pieces is "Time Pieces" for Clarinet, which a jazzy feel in places just like this Flute Sonata...again an amazing job..kudos

  • this is inspirational. i can't stop watching it.

  • I'm working on this piece now, I love it! and this is a wonderful interpretation of it. I think Robert Muczynski would be proud to hear this playing of it ;)

  • Bravo. I like your first movement tempo is great. It indeed has lots of energy and allowed for a jazzy feel in some spots. Great dialogue between you and the pianist.

  • Finally someone who agrees.. :p

  • LOL, I think everyone agrees.

  • I love watching you perform on your videos! You have so much energy, and the way your facial expressions coincide with the music...it's just priceless.

Your ability is astounding. I hope to see more videos from you soon!

  • omg, your so good :)

i'm a sophmore in highschool, and i'm playing this piece for my solo contest :)

    your AWESOME!

  • i'm a junior in college and i'm thinking of just relaxing this semester since i'm studying acocunting and it's taking up all my time. i think i'll do this one for one of my 5 pieces for flute lessons. anyways. great sound. so much energy. i've never heard of this piece. great piece.

  • great piece!! i played in on my senior recital. thought your tempo for the 1st movement was a tad slow needed a bit more "drive" but VERY nicely played.

  • okay.. well. As I said before I think this is (maybe not correct according to the score) the best tempo. It gives a certain energy which you cannot obtain by playing it in "the original" tempo. That's why.. Thanks for comment anyway! :)

  • lol well you certainly make up for it in the second.. either way.. slower or faster.. you are an EXCELLENT flutist!!!

  • Hi! You're right: very good energy:) I love this piece! Do You know that composer is from Poland? greetings from Poland! You are very good!

  • The pianist you say it's unknown. But so are you for now... I think you should put your name in the records, so people start knowing you.

You have the same tastes than me in the type of musics you chose to play. Continue puting the records in the Youtube. I like them very much.

Continue the hard work, but never lose the fun and the will to face the hardest pieces you may find ;)

  • Oh how I love this piece! I like the rhythmic quality you play it with. Excellent job

  • Hey awesome job overall. The first movement was a hair too slow for my liking, and the second one a bit too fast, making the piano part sound rushed and the whole thing just goes by to fast. Loved the playing though on both instruments.

  • Yeah, okay.. I liked our tempi though. It makes the first movement very rythmic in a sense, and that's what i think it should be like. Second movement is often heard played too slow, and I like our energy.

    But whatever you like.. :)

  • Oh my goodness! You are amazing! I was looking up this piece because for our New York State Solo Festival competition, this was one of my choices I was down to. And wow! I think I'm going to lean towards Doppler's Fantaisie Hongroise Pastorale, but I definitely am going to work on this one at some point.

Last year for the solo competition I did Enesco's Cantabile et Presto, and also just worked on Debussy's Syrinx.

  • I love this peice, played it for my senior recital :)

  • Thanks.. :)

Yeah, fantastic piece. I also bought Moments by the same composer, but I think it's maybe too much pop for me.

  • I really like your performance! I had a snippet of this piece before and never realised what it was until recently. Thanks to your recording I've just gone and purchased it.
