Because it was just a spinoff to bring the serie to the US, just like "Tetris Attack" made with "Panel de Pon", and also, this series is sega property now.

puyo pop is probably the best puzzle game ever...way better than tetris...

Actually, SEGA made Puyo POP Fever and it's sequels to keep the series alive after Compile(The original company that made the game) disbanded.
I agree. One of the best Puzzle Games ever is Puyo Puyo Madou and Fever.
