lol its funny how people think everything now adays is fake. like many have stated this is real and they have the facts to back it up. you idiots who think its fake are just that. idiots. stop spending all your damn time on youtube and maybe read a book or at least learn alittle science.
@Everybody: I am shocked by the complete lack of critical thinking skills and just general idiocy emanating from every corner of YouTube ESPECIALLY when it has to do with subjects that require scientific knowledge and reasoning skills in order to determine the legitimacy of a claim/video. I know you can't help it but, please, don't pretend to know things when it's clear you don't actually know them. It's easy for those that do know to tell you are faking it (i.e. just read it on Wikipedia).
1. At sufficient voltage anything can become a "conductor", including glass.
2. Steam? The car was moving pretty fast. I'm not so sure the amount of steam produced would be significant but even if it was I think it would be difficult to see.
3. So what?
4. Your statement is flawed. Lightening can affect ANYTHING. Does it strike cars often? No. Can lightening strike ANYTHING. YES: If the material can have charge (almost all matter).
@tranceonline and @noreas I suspect this is real. ightening can and will go through just about anything, including glass. I know lots of physics majors who are morons so that doesn't mean anything. All that is necessary to turn an insulator into a conductor is to surpass the breakdown voltage (which happens easily with lightening). The "Faraday cage" concept is somewhat correct in this context as this would help shield someone from harmful effects. But lightening can and does strike cars.
@no1kingest To make the street lights go out and still see the glow from the SON lamps, and the loss of reflection on the road, it just isn't really that possible... :L
i dont think ive seen anything more fake. if you are aware lighting actually goes from the ground up. not from the sky down. i paused this film and re watched it its just a animation over top of a video that shows the lightning coming from the top to the ground
@hep3d not always,, it depends on wich side is the positive one and wich the negative one,, if the ground is positive loaded, the ground has less electrone's than the cloud, and will the lightning goes from the sky to the ground; thereby I can't imagine you will see where the lightning goes to without highspeed camera's and high tech equipment... I dont really know if its fake or not...
It goes out cause the lamp posts have light sensors so when its day they turn off and when its dark they turn on and since the lightning is really bright it was the only one to turn off cause the one after didnt turn off.
For all you who think its fake, It's real. You can see the backgroung reflecting the light from the strike, and the camera goes white for a few frames. Also, when you look close you can see the different phases of the strike. We dont even really have the technology to "fake" a strike this good. This is real.
@tranceonline Fact 1: Glass does not conduct. a Thin pane of glass will keep you protected from even the strongest lightning. In fact. glass is such a good insulator, it has been used for hundreds of years without fail.
2. the water would have been flash boinled so quickly you wouldnt have seen steam
3. The camera is mounted. He isnt holding it.
4. Lightning wont affect a car. The exterior body work of a car forms a specially designed Faraday Cage which keeps all harmful electricity away.
@XSE256 like porceline type insulators on high tension and electric rail line supply...I notic the materials are getting better cause the insulators seem to be getting smaller
@XSE256 Do you know how incredibly retarded you are? 1: Lightning will go through anything. Even a barbecue lighter will go through glass. 2: Just because it boils quickly doesn't mean there's no fucking steam dipwipe. 3: You're a dumbshit. 4. Lightning very well can affect a car.
@noreason2701 Son, you're arguing with a Physics Major. If you really want to discuss physics with someone who has a degree in the subject,, well, I think everyone get's the picture.
Watch this video before insulting someone please: watch?v=ve6XGKZxYxA
@noreason2701 That's funny how you don't know shit about a lightning's physical nature, but yet you feel like you can argue about it. Everything you just said was ignorant and dead wrong.
@XSE256 "Fact 1" isn't true. Yes, glass is not a conductor. But neither is air, and the whole point of lightning is that it makes a path through the air between clouds and the ground.
"Fact 4" is partly true, cars can form a Faraday cage, but that doesn't mean lightning can't be dangerous. It's less dangerous than if you're NOT in a car, but there is still the possibility of serious damage being done. A car has all sorts of wiring running through it.
@dalellll Fact 1: Air in reference to the atmosphere IS conductive. It is on the lowest end of the scale as far as conductivity, however since one lightning bolt can power a town I don't think it has a problem with that. Your comment sort of contradicts itself. The lightning is proof of that.
Look up what a Faraday Cage is and get back to me. Also, watch Top Gear's video of lightning striking a car, with someone inside.
@tony123324 happened to me too but whatwas weird...the lightning made a tunnel of lightning around our car but it hit our enginge andcar caught fire lol rain put out the fire..XD
i have just uploaded footage to what i believe to be two of the biggest bolts you will ever see, copy and paste this: Storm in brighton, thunder & lightning the lot, and some swearing!!!
*face palms* Is this the best you can do? If the car was hit the person would have veered away from the scare, the thunder would be a hell of a lot louder , why does someone just happen to have a dashcam going in the middle of a storm like that, Also ALL the lights would have gone out.
@august715 If u r in a car, and lighting strokes, nothing will happen to u. As there is tiers made of rubber you will be safe even if it is 100000000 volts. That's what they showed in National Geographic channel.
if this is real , the lightning didnt hit the car , it hit the streetlight ... lightning hits the closest point to its point of origin, it is imposible for lightning to hit anything if there is an object higher than it near by .thats why u should never stand near a tree or climb one during a thunderstorm( it could get hit by lightning)

@DanielMyhrman Yes. You're correct. Electricity "goes through" metal. That was my point Captain Obvious. For example: If I KNEW I'd be hit by lightning, I would want to be wearing a silver suit of armor. The metal might burn me a bit, but I wouldn't get shocked. I'd be much safer with that suit than without it. You'd probably think I was a liar if I told you that high tension linemen wear a hotsuit (made of stainless steel thread) while touching 500K volt lines.
The voltage of lightning renders the rubber of the tires negligible. The voltage of the lightning just powers on through it. You really think that lightning that can jump through air from the clouds is going to be stopped by an inch of rubber? The reason cars are the safest place to be is because the metal body conducts the lightning around you rather that through you.
You people spread some really dumb shit regarding lightening. Tires don't have any goddamn effect on your safety if you're struck in a car. If I had my wish, I'd be wearing a goddamn metal suit of armor at the time lightening strikes me. I'd be just fine.
@TheAGillespie yes it can get struck by lightning because it is metla yet you are right the tires ground the charge so the people inside are completly safe as the car acts like a metal box which protects them
@XdilbeX You are not quite correct. The tyres mean that you are less likely to be hit by lightning. The reason why the car keeps you safe is that it has metal bodywork or a body that conducts. The lightning is a really high voltage hence producing 'the skin effect'. In simple terms the charge repels itself and tries to get as far away from the nearest charge as possible which is means that the electricity is concentrated around the outside of the car leaving you safe (just don't touch metal!).
@TheAGillespie well i just wanted to say that lightning could strike a car, electricity arcs across air just fine, lightning is a great example of this it can travel kilometers without a conductor what makes you think that 2 inches of rubber is gonna magically make it stop? and the tires don't ground the car in fact they do the opposite, they insulate it from the ground.
A lightning strike always goes to the object, which got the lowest resistance and the shortest way to the lightning strike. The lightning strike didn't hit the car but the street lights (As you can see: The power of the lightning strike turns some street lights off, because they got the lower resistance and got the shortest way to the lightning.) The result is an electric short.
Reviewing the video, the lightning hit the streetlight, which is why it knocked some of them out. It didn't hit the car. Lightning has alot of plasma when close, and the vid at 3 sec shows the lighting aprox 1" wide if it hit the car, which is not correct. Perspective and the response of the digital camera make it look closer than it is.
@InsaneBurrito45 extremely unlikely as each post would be grounded. Far more likely the light sensors on the top of the lamp post merely reacted to the light and switched off momentarily.
@InsaneBurrito45 I'd think if it was a short out every one of the streetlights would have went out due to a broken circuit, but I'm no electrician or electrical engineer, so I could be wrong
HOLY SHIT! YOU RAN OVER PIKACHU!!!!

This is why I take a camera with me every time I drive somewhere because I honestly expect to get struck by lightning... BULL SHIT!!!!!!

@InsaneBurrito45 I'd think if it was a short out every one of the streetlights would have went out due to a broken circuit, but I'm no electrician or electrical engineer, so I could be wrong
