You really only need 1 LED. I think it has 2 just in case a person stands in front of one of them. Look at ebay item 220522107668 or view other amazing items by user shakespeare1212. By the way my offer is $8.75 shipped anywhere in the US and NONE of your time, unless you count hitting the buy now button and maybe filling in your address as time. If you'd like to buy two, I'll send two for $15.85, not a problem. They are backed with double stick tape to stay firmly whereever you place them.
umm nintendo makes the best games in my oppinion ssbb is coming out i mean really clash all nintendo charectors together and play as them and fight!!!
exept they use business skills so you can probally bet theres going to be a second type of wii coming out with a different size maybe a mini wii...LOL LOL
You should really use a current limiting resistor, or you'll burn out your IR LEDs in no time. I made my own using two project boxes, with 2 IR LEDs per piece. Works well.
griffyboy0 You are correct. My IR source is 4.5 volts with two LEDs, one IR LED and one power indicator. It uses a 22 ohm current limiting resistor. Have I done well?
drmofcali4niktun, the controller actually goes to the wii. So the sensor bar is read by the Controller which is read by the Wii. Took me a minute to figure it out.
how does the wii pick up the signal? i mean if the LEDs aren't connected to the wii in anyway at all, how is the signal transmitted to the wii itself?
The Wii remote has a high resolution infra-red camera in the front. When it sees the IR LED it plots it's position up or down, left or right X and Y if you will and it reports these back to the Wii or if you're smart a computer over bluetooth communication. View: "Low-cost Multi-touch Interactive White board" hear on YouTube for more information.
hey i just followed your directions and i have a question. does my LED get messed up if i put it on with the negative end on the positive end of the battery? I accidently did that the first time and now only one of them works.
@Niko381 If you only used the one 1.5 volt battery then if should not hurt the LED, depending on the quality of the unit. The TSAL 6400 from Vishay will hand up to 6 volts in the wrong direction and be fine. Before throwing that LED away I would double check your connections. It might not be working because of a lose wire, not because it's blown.
Um... wii sports done use the sensor bar to let you know... but nice sensor bar idea. I just made one from a different tutorial thing, but mine has 4 leds and 4 AAAS, but im using a resistor, and now Im thinking maybe I dont want it, since it might be cutting the power down because mine is jittery and doesnt have that good of range.
Yeah I found out that Wii Sports doesn't use the sensor bar a few days ago. I have used this with Zelda and the Wii Internet Channel so I know it works! I haven't had any problems without using a resistor so I would say go for it!
The song at the beginning is one that comes with Garageband 3. The main song in the rest of the video is called "Original Medley". I got it on this CD that came with an issue of Nintendo Power a while back. The CD is awesome and it has a total of I think 14 songs on it, all from Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Yes i have seen many video like these, very nice! I really don't mind the wire on the sensor bar, the thing that bothers me most is the range! I sit about 7 or 8 feet away from my T.V. and I get jittery movement from the sensor bar. If anyone knows how to make longer range IR please contact me!
The wii sensorbar for many is an eye sore and having to run the additional cable is annoying. The Wii bar dots are bigger because there are 3 of them close together. having a wireless sensor bar means no cables. If you have candles 2 candles above your TV you get the same effect as well. Just need some kind of IR source.
GREAT!!!! AMAZING!!! THIS SHOULD GET LIKE 999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999.9 honors! XD Alright no really this version is a 7 out of 5. And that 7 is not a typo.
But, i noticed the 4 dots on the screen during the test. The sensor bar's dots are larger than the portable ones; i'm guessing this means the sensor bar is more powerful than the one you made (there could be a reason for this level of intensity).
And i'm thinking, does it work just as well when the room is bright?
Also, when the 2 lights are separated, does it matter what distance apart they are from each other?

course you could just lengthen the sensor bar's cord with cheap speaker wire or power it with an old wall wort.

Why spend 10 dollars when a sensor v=bar is included?????????
xFYCNxcps22 4 years ago
I think you're not paying enough attention.
This one is wireless.
It also means that you don't need to turn on your Wii if you want to use your wiimote with your computer.
sykopomp 4 years ago
why dont you use the wii like they intended
xFYCNxcps22 4 years ago
because the sensor bar that comes with the wii has wires, which dont extend far enough from the console for projector set ups.
raikoh05 4 years ago 3
How long is the sensor bar wire on the one supplied with the Wii?

Can I ask, what sort of battery life do you get from using them, and do the two LED's need to be a percific distance from each other?

ugly wire across the room... :(
