  • Nice Track^^

  • As much as I love sculpties.. I have to agree. Voice is nice.. but.. most of us use skype or other voice things therein. Windlight, when it was introduced.. stability shot into the floor.. I never once lagged or crashed or anything before that.. then again I've been on SL since 07.. others way before that so you know they miss alot of the stability. Mesh? Well.. it sucks. It has some ups.. but all those ups are scaled by all the downs.

  • Too bad mesh turned out to be a massive crap.

Mesh prim counts are weighed very strangely. With that said, if you want to use them, you can't resize them. Resizing a mesh prim bigger add's to the prim count.

You wanted to attach that mesh prim to a regular prim object? Ok, now all the regular prims are weighed like mesh prims. Why develop this if its made to piss people off? So much for that 'revolution'

If you want to stab your eyes out because of it, you can bet Linden Lab came up with it.

  • Man, I wish I could run shadows without lagging like a mofo!

  • @MrChantelleA i am with you! but the day shall come :)

  • wunderbar!

  • Hmmm....that sounds like someone who just downloaded and installed V2?

  • Nicely made!

  • Seriously why bother with sculpts anymore? the Mesh upload if you edit it shows up as using the sculpt shape when you click on the drop down box for object. It pretty much replaces the sculpt prim. In fact it's actually akin to a very advanced sculpted prim. One where you can define the shape exactly on a 1:1 ratio when you upload and can define how many "verts" are used. After having used it in the beta I have no desire to continue using sculpted prims defined by a rainbow texture.

  • @lordfirefox Quite simple , mesh will not really have any prim saving abilitys , personally though I know how to make sculpts properly so that they render well. I would also love to know how you set a timer on loading times , 200 times faster ? and how did you calculate that ?

My main point though is the fact prims and sculptscan be made in SL which makes for fantastic varied content made by a variety of people, I love blender but it takes a while to learn which is off putting to many people.

  • @MonsterMunchAreAce As a matter of fact it will. And how did I measure the load times, pretty damn simple, Take a sculpt made with two textures (the shape and the baked texture) upload it and then edit a prim and change it to sculpt, take note of the loading time. Over 5 seconds I guarantee it because of the fact that sculpts have a set number of vertices you cannot change.

  • If you were to upload the same shape in .dae with less vertices used and the same texture baked in for the skin you'd see the mesh upload rez in at 0.05ms, about the same rez speed of a regular prim in SL.

As for the prim count it will help a lot to decrease prim usage simply because you can define a mesh more accurately than you can a sculpt. Right now in the beta the streaming cost is set rather high for testing purposes but that will change.

  • @lordfirefox I have already heard insane claims inworld that the only people that will be able to create in SL will be the spoilt little children that asked daddy for a copy of zbrush for christmas , can you imagine an SL made by spoilt kids and students ? It would be a complete pile of shit no matter what form the upload is in .

Coloured texture ? really ? is that what you base your bizzare claims on ? So you see a sculpt as a texture ? So what do you think a .dae is made from ?

  • @MonsterMunchAreAce No anyone who can learn Blender or Wings3D will be able to upload .dae files provided they're willing to take the time to learn something. And both of those programs are free. There's also Caligari Truespace which has a much nicer interface than Blender and is Also free. People need to stop making excuses.

  • @lordfirefox I dont have any real problems with the programs needed , what I dont appreciate is the people going around saying "if you dont have maya you are screwed" , they seem to of died off lately due to the fact people contradict them enough and that it is widely known that current sculpting tools will be able to quite easily switch to being mesh tools , I do have a product of my own though that I believe will allways need to be sculpt though , Ill send you a link later when I have time .

  • Prok is such a noob. I swear.

  • lez mix mesh . this is pretty funny...... but who did th voice over????? .-))

  • The ability to teleport at will with no fee is going to ruin SL forever, people will just hop all over the place

  • @AdeonWriter damn, I totally forgot about that....that's why my avatar gained 40 pounds in the last few years...:(

  • @AdeonWriter and rock n' roll music will be the end of civilization!

  • @QarlFizz NO!!! comic books are the end to literature - my mom threw away my SciFi books & see where I am now? She should have fed me some harsher meds....:)

  • Better to see it on this channel. Mocking the prim system on the official channel. Great. Mesh will be good, but it doesn't quite fit with the core ethos of a world created by it's users. I think that mesh will involve a big learning curve and there is no news of an official in-world tool for it.

  • @AndrogyneMichinaga Mesh wont be the end of anything , its just another building option , prims and sculpts will be used just as much as they ever were , I still use normal prims along side my sculpts and it will be the same with mesh , even by just using the beta we can see that sculpts have their own advantages over mesh , namely prim saving so you really dont need to worry about SL being over run by spoilt Maya brats, also there may well be inworld tools in production.

  • @MonsterMunchAreAce Really? My experience in the beta is that meshes load 200x faster than sculpts. Why bother with uploading two textures and waiting for it to rez fully when you can upload it as a mesh have the texture baked in and ready to go and have it appear in world instantaneously? I've tested uploads of both sculpt and mesh of the same object, the sculpt version took about 20-30 seconds whereas the mesh version rezzed in at 2ms. It makes sculpts look like a kludge.

  • Really nice :-) Great production values... thanks for once again keeping me upto date with whats going on... I really need to leave me sim more and be more aware of whats happening :-)
