  • This year marks the 30th anniversary of this movie.

  • My favorite too! I wish I could find the soundtrack!

  • Thank You so much, My favorite film by him, so hard to find!

  • these were the days...

  • @marioskywalker64 that be the baddest thing ever

  • I love this movie but I think its definitely worth a nostalgia critic review

  • They should show this, and some other Bakshi stuff, on Adult Swim.

  • @marioskywalker64 adult swim is fucking terrible, keep it away from bakshi

  • HEY GOOD LOOKING WHAT U GOT COOKIN?

  • Just cost less and takes less time to make cgi films...don't have to hire as many animators...I miss full feature cell animation...its a dying art that isn't cost efficient in producers eyes these days...sad.

  • fuck this city!!!!

  • TOMATOES!!! I love this movie, thanks for posting!

  • ... i like to draw... and i have to say, if this style of animation were still in demand, i'd probably put forth the effort and start making cartoons or something... where did shit like fritz, heavy traffic and this go??

  • @marklethanarkle I think this type of style went down the toilet when Pixar popped up.

  • Thing about women, when you turn 'em upside down, they all look the same.

  • what is interesting is the history of this the production for this began in 1973 it didnt come out until 1982 and it was origianlly going to be like coonskin and heavy traffic but because of the CORES bannings of coonskin they had to scrap it and they did A LOT of changes to it and it only got a selected theater premier but this is a great movie and it SHOULD GET ON DVD

  • "Good bye, Charlie! Good bye! Fuck this city!" XD random as hell talking garbage and trash can?

  • I watch this video over and over just to hear the opening theme song

  • One of my favorites ever, Thank you Mr Bakshi

  • This movie is the best my family had this movie on vhs when i was a child....check me out music production type in jumbopapaz

  • Long ass credits? Just skip ahead to 1:45 :)

  • Ralph Bakshi is one of my favorit artist and animators His work is still edgy even by today’s standers.

  • Stervers80, I'd just would like to say, thanks for up-loading all these Bakshi films! A true gem of a filmaker!

Just out of interest, how would you rank his films?

  • You know whats funny, about 85% of teens today don't know about star wars, how many do you think will know about great animation like this? Almost none so thank you Stevers80 for posting these epic films on youtube. You rule.

  • WTH? A Bakshi movie I've never heard of?? Now I'm going to have to hunt this down.

  • Who sings this song?

  • good lookin' light skinned brotha wit blue eyez! :) (and for all of you fuckers out there trying to correct me im using some slang)

  • "YOU GOT TO BELIEVE!!!" "YOU GOT TO BELIEVE!!!"

  • Ralph Bakshi was a reknowned asshole and intolerable to work with. The man was a hypocrite and a total loon. That's what makes him great. That he was able to pump out the creations he did, while being such a gigantic twat.

  • I really hope this gets a proper dvd release :/

  • @AirMan928

    Maybe on Warner Archeives

  • the new york dolls were filmed for this movie in 74 but when it came out their part

    was cut

  • pure trash "dislike" due to profanity

  • fuck this city haha

  • the 6 people that dont like this must have clicked down by accident or they are blind

  • thanks so much for posting this, it's complete crap that it's not out on dvd

  • Thanks for posting this daddio!

  • Only in a Ralph Bakshi film would you hear talking garbage go "Fuck this city!"

  • what is this rated?

  • never heard of this flim, whats it about, like is it any good?

  • i much prefer this style of animation to manga...

  • @panjea23

Not all manga is the same, have you seen Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies (Very sad and powerful movie), Ninja Scroll, Wicked City etc? which proves manga is not all alike and can have good quality animation and mouth movements instead of low budget style.

  • looking at all ralph baskshi's movies seems like he questioned his religion...

  • The Boondocks isthe closest thing you can get to these movies

  • this is some real stuff.. new york city was a shit hole back in the 80s

  • i think im gonna go on a mission and try to get all thes kind of cartoons on dvd...these cartoons are wild and crazy as hell...i thought Frotz the cat was somethin..lol

  • @demonkai76

Fritz the Cat was pretty amazing.. Frotz on the other hand was quite underwhelming

  • @TechnoHajikelist oh yeah=) There are moments in a Bakshi movies that are big lipped alligator moments=)

  • i love this animation....fuck these animated movies with celebrity actors. This is real and raw animaition.

  • @goodvibesallround cant disagree with you.

  • None of the Japanese have never surpassed Ralph Bakshi and ever will ... animation and story lines of this quality will only exist in the past, especially now that Bakshi is out of the game ...

  • for some reason, this movie is actually sold on DVD under the name "Coonskin 2"... I KID YOU NOT!!!

I also told my gf not to use the word "Coonskin" upon my discovery.

  • Why is no one making adult cartoon anymore.....there must be a market for them. The closest thing we have is south park. But that desn't even compare to this.

  • @goodvibesallround adult swim

  • @goodvibesallround

Well in Japan there's plenty of adult cartoon movies from Akira, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in The Shell, Fist of the North Star, Wicked City, Princess Mononoke, Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, Paprika, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, Vampire Hunter D 1 & 2, Golgo 13 The Professional, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (aka Warriors of the Wind) etc. and there's even a subgenre called hentai? heard of hentai?

  • this is brilliant and awesome!!

  • Ralph Bakshi got his start working on Terrytoons like Heckle and Jeckles and Mighty Mouse... ooOOOOOooold school stuff. The stuff that inspired Anime directors... and it wouldn't hurt Japan and America to go back to their roots... I want more films like this and Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise and less films like Cloudy With a Side of Meatballs or Yu-Gi-Oh...

  • @thejobloshow

Most agree and what do you think of the shock-feast Urotsukidoji?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Urotsukidoji was banned in Australia so I've never seen it. lol

I suppose I can find a stream online but it never came up... thanks for reminding me of that title though - it looks incredibly well crafted like most Anime of that time.

  • 6:18 animated benico del toro

  • why are so many people talking about japanese animated films

  • Thanks for the upload, Stevers80, haven't seen this since probably 1984 or 85.

  • Finally they got fund and all I can tell is the animation and effect was much improve since Wizard

  • i like this movies style of music

  • 1st comment for 2010, must be special

  • @countbloodula

    Most definitely.

  • I have this on VHS, I used to hide it from the kids, now the stuff they watch is tame compared to this.

  • only bakshis cartoons are as good as anime.

  • shut up and just enjoy what it is

  • The fact you people are comparing the awesomeness that is Ralph Bakshi to run-of-the-mill anime makes me want to vomit

  • Hentai itself doesnt have to be fkin tentacles and bestiality or shitporn or how they call it? guro yeah GURO s the shit that will fk with ur mind. there cant be a thing more brutal and apalingxD if u dont know what guro is I advice u not to look it up unless u want to freak out.or get a hard on if u are a SICK FKIN PERVERTED MANIAC.

I like most of the anime movies from the 90s and some of the recent ones some of htem are just badass and hinestly make good use of modern animation techniques.

  • Well GoldenBoy is a nice and hilarious example of softcore hentai.

  • @Johnlindsey289

    i love golden boy

  • Sounds almost like Frank Oz.

  • I don't think Japanese animation is capable of the pissy, brutal, punked out 1950's reflection here - it's pure R-rated americana, great characters, great mood

  • so thats where michael jackson got his outfit for the music video bad. at 7:02.!!!

  • I saw this when I was in the 1st grade: 1982.

  • 7:10 = Bob Taylor animation

  • Goodbye Charlie...Fuck this city! haha great stuff man thanks for posting this, wish i could have been around for this era of film, something tells me the time when movies were this well done has long passed.

  • do you think Japanese animation can compare to Bakshi's stuff? same mature audiences animation. I mean stuff like Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, Perfect Blue, Princess Mononoke, Wicked City, The Professional: Golgo 13, Fist of the North Star, and stuff like that.

  • You just named a ton of different genres. It'd be like trying to compare Dark Knight to Godfather.

  • Japanese animation is great, but so is regular animation... its much better to compare the filmmakers, for example my two favorite animators are Ralph Bakshi and Hayao Miyazaki

  • What about the other stuff i mentioned like Akira? Greatest movie ever.

  • Japanese animation to me has its hits and misses...But there have been a couple of animes that I have liked. {alot of criticized on Sonic and Kirby's anime}

  • @OriginalGagBonkers

What about Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Hayao Miyazaki's stuff, Grave of the Fireflies, Perfect Blue, Urotsukidoji, Wicked City, Ninja Scroll, Golgo 13 and others? good examples of anime done right Gag.

  • I havent seen What about Akira, but I do like ghost in the shell. Hayo Miyazaki is a hit and miss to me, but I do enjoy Princess Monokoe{or however the hell you say it}

  • @OriginalGagBonkers

Akira is the most awesomest animated movie around and a true landmark. And have you seen any hentai?

  • I havent seen any hentai...But I do hear some of it is good. But some people I know think anime is just xxx. Bullcrap if you ask me.

  • @Johnlindsey289

You said pretty much the same thing on the 'Donald Fagen - True Companion' video. Are you on a personal mission to promote anime? And what does it have to do with Hey Good Lookin', let alone Donald Fagen?

  • Nope i'm just saying things about adult animation, there should be more love for them.

  • @Johnlindsey289

"...should be more love for them"? Why, is Akira suffering from bad sales or something? It's not as if people don't know about that stuff.

  • Nice to see someone like Miyazaki.

  • I just noticed that Vinnie looks like the anime character Lupin the 3rd.

  • I've always thought of that.

  • @Stevers80 lmao yea, I love Urotsukidoji an adult anime but u cant compare tht to Fritz the first x rated american cartoon. lmao and ghost in the shell, mononoke,......WHAT XD

  • Seems to me that Anime has really lost its edge. It used to be so dark, so mature. Now its just kiddy and silly.

I grew up on shit like Akira and Ninja Scroll. Really dark and graphic. Now everything seems too PG.

  • its all about ULTIMATE POWAAA!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not into hentai

  • Cause of all that rape stuff you heard with tentacles? well there are some softcore Hentai without the rape from demons.

  • You don't know how much I hate the majority of modern anime, and how it's just pandering to this sad subsect of the otaku crowd. .

  • @VendavalEste

Agreed. I've known about anime since the mid-80's and it's sad to see how far it's degraded. It has become a commodity to drive up sales by pandering to the otaku, as you said. Everything is designed the same, the plot lines are heavily derivative and unimaginative, and they're not drawn nearly as well. Most of it is outsourced to Korea and China.

  • Well the old school ones are the best! i mean what do you think of Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Grave of the Fireflies, Hayao Miyazaki's stuff (Totoro, Mononoke, Spirited Away), Ninja Scroll, Fist of the North Star, Wicked City, Golgo 13: The Professional, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, Metropolis, Cowboy Bebop The Movie etc.? all theatrical quality anime especially Akira the grand-daddy of all them.

What do you think of hentai?

  • @Johnlindsey289 You always post the same list, but whatever, I'll play along. Akira - Exceptional GitS - Decent GotF - Dull Miyazaki - His best are Nausicaa, Totoro, Kiki, Mononoke, Cagliostro, and perhaps Spirited Away Ninja Scroll - Didn't care for it FotNS - Both the anime and film are great Wicked City - Never saw it Golgo 13 - I only know the first film; was pretty good Urotsukidoji - Never saw it LotO - Ditto Metropolis - Ditto Cowboy Bebop - Saw some of it but didn't care
  • @Johnlindsey289

BTW, I wouldn't call Akira the "Granddaddy of them all." Maybe it's your favorite but it's definitely not the first. As for hentai, I saw some of it and thought it was rather lame.

You fail to mention stuff like Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, City Hunter, Project A-Ko, Dragon Ball (the original when Goku was a kid, not Z or GT), Ranma, Bubblegum Crisis, Nadia and The Secret of Blue Water, etc. All of the good anime is relegated to the past. Now it's all mass-produced.

  • @Johnlindsey289 What America considers 'mature animation' dosen't apply the same way in Japan. They never set any regulations on animation whereas America has been censoring it since the 1920s.

In response to your question I love Bakshi's animation for being so elaborate and wacky like Bob Clampett but realistic like Japanese animation. I like anime better when it comes to drawing style but you can't beat Bakshi's style.

Both styles were inspired by early newspaper funnies BTW.

  • @lordkremlore And Japan has art and animation culture is incredibly sophisticated, their directors and illustrators are as revered if not more than Speilberg or Cameron etc.

  • @Johnlindsey289 i dont think you can compare the,. they are both fantastic styles of animation

  • man that dude looked better with his hair messy

  • THANKS FOR POSTING!

  • I love this fricken flick!!! Tomatoes!!! hehehe

  • Ralph Bakshi is truely a great artist, all of his movie deserve a major special edition treatment, like Fire and Ice got by Blue Underground and Wizards by 20th Century Fox (it was not much on it, but it was quite something)!

  • @MrCarnivour

Most agree, he's just inspiring and proves that not all cartoons are for kids. American Pop was his best and most unique!

  • Yeah, real nice place to keep a gun. That couldn't go wrong at all now, could it?

  • My first R rated was "Sleepy Hollow".

  • hasnt been put on dvd. what a shame.

  • This is some good quality. Is this from VHS or DVD?

  • exactly what I was thinking..., I havent been able to find any bootleg dvd's... hey Stevers, could you enlighten us a little?

  • I'm guessing VHS because they never released this on DVD. My copy is actually just a torrent with no info on it.

  • You, Stevers80, are fully awesome for this sweet upload.

  • It's the nasty version of "Grease"- but greasers and rock & roll really weren't a big thing until 1955 ( not '53)...

  • "Goodbye Charlie. Fuck this city!"

    lol

  • what happend to that jaket?

  • Wow I have been looking for this movie for years! I never knew the name just recalled the beginning scene with the girl walking down the alley seeing the guy. Looking up Fritz the Cat stuff I found it. Thank god he kept the same style in each movie.

  • This movie is awesome !!!

It's totally out of print...Thanks for giving me the chance to see it again.

Even in 9 parts it still kicks ass !!!

  • i saw this when i was 7 years old, back in '83, on showtime or cinemax.

my first introduction to the genius that is bakshi.

  • saw my first R movie whem i was 9 on stars

  • my first R movie was the patoriot

  • I was there too, man!!! We're brothers!!!

  • Whats it rated?

  • Goodbye Charlie! Fuck this city!!

    LOLLLL XD

  • I absolutely love this movie.I used to rent it at the local video store all the time.I'm so glad I found it on here. The beginning scene is so classic.

  • how old were u when u first saw it

  • I watched this high as fuck in college one night on cinemax . i still remember this crazy fucking movie

  • That's the gritty side of the 50s, do they wear clothes like that! in the 50s?!

  • acording to my grandpa they did

  • Oh! :O

  • This movie was made in the mid 1970's. The release was delayed a few years.

  • thank you for posting this! Im still waiting for it to come out on DVD - this is my favorite Bakshi film!

  • I saw this on VHS in a small video store. But if you want the DVD, you can probably find it on ebay.

  • I'll see it someday.

  • Its worthit to watch mate, especialy if your in a real depressed mood.

  • I love this opening song but I can never find it on Itunes, a friend said this was a rock rendition of a country song. I said he was F**Ked

  • i have this on VHS old skool hahaha my mum got it when i was like 4 back in 89 watched it then watched it now fuckin awesome

  • u saw this when u were 4

  • yeah why?

  • His mum probably thought all cartoon are for kids or something.

  • lol

    "Goodbye, charlie...Fuck this city!"

  • this is a great movie allthough unfortunatley you cant find it on DvD anywhere just Vhs

  • Love this movie even though this is the only time I've seen this movie :)

  • Not the best of Bakshi but by all means a cult film!

Interestingly enough: the voice of Crazy Shapiro is none other than David Proval which Sopranos fans may still have in 'good' memory as Richie Aprile, one of the most bad-ass characters of the series ... :)

  • Don't forget that he was also Peace in "Wizards" and Richard Romanus who voiced vinnie was on Sopranos too. He was the voice of Harry Canyon in "Heavy Metal" and Weekhawk in Bakshi's "Wizards".

  • The guy at 6:14 looks like a badass Don Knotts.

  • holy crap he does look like him weird

  • It's cool!

  • I've always wanted a leather jacket but when I saw this movie, I went out and bought one two days ago. I'm gonna get my hair in a pomp and be a greaser for Halloween.

  • I got a jacket from 1970 I still wear, I'm gonna wear that to halloween too!

  • Lol, that's one rude pile of trash!

  • Actually, this was made in '75 right after Coonskins but was held up in release until 7 years later.

  • Bakshi is a god in the world of adult animation.

  • That's right! he always tells brilliant stories.

  • vinny looks like an over exagerated version of john travolta in grease

  • Vinny looks meaner than John Travolta. Almost evil.

  • It's the other way AROUND. This is how America had seen blacks and whites in the 50's.

  • Ralph Bakshi's films are so f*cking weird. But weird in a sort of "I know something that you don't" kinda way. But with Bakshi, it never comes off as pompous or egotistical, just sly, witty and just self-aware enough that it doesn't distract from the movies themselves.

Did that make any sense? Probably not. Or at least as much sense as Bakshi's films! It's a crime his films don't get the attention they deserve. The man is a living piece of history.

  • Discovered Bakshi yesterday, this guy is my new hero. :)

  • Really How so?

  • Cause I dig his stuff.

  • I discoverd him about 3 days ago xD. Kakshi's da man!

  • I owe my entire creative and moral and emotional development to Ralph Bakshi.

  • You're not the only one. Bakshi's played a large role in my life as well, and probably a lot of other people in here as well.

  • .. wow an entire generation of folks mentaly disturbed in a goodway, all thanks to one man. RALPH WILL GO TO HIS GRAVE PROUD!

  • anyone know who sings the theme song?

  • My parents Ric Sandler and Ichshe Sandler, its great its still viewed, I decided to search on you tube and people seem to like the soundtrack.

  • Ric Sandler

  • vote ralph bakshi for adult swim
