Hey Jon, thanks for the tips at the workshop in Colombo, Sri Lanka, ..that ride is sure swingin' now! Hope u guys had some good gigs in Bangladesh. Take it easy. - Dhinesh
That's right Webstercat! Glad you picked that up. That's exactly the whole point in the end is to relax and of course when you practice stay focused on one idea for a long time so that you "really" get to know the idea, so that you can play it live without having to think. It has to be automtic like talking or driving a car! cheers jon
I also came across another technique where the stick is whipped from wrist, in thumb on top or overhand position and is somewhat pulled across the cymbal. One movement and three notes, feels great in the hand but not sure it is a cheat or a legit method. I guess whatever works for fast tempos.
Just one thing, you say then you can practice it up! Well getting the tempo is the real challenge of this. How about a little insight into how to get the speed and how long it took to get the speed. That is the real challenge and secret, isn't it?
As in, how did we live without Elvin? We live after him by emulating him. Let's remember him every morning when we rise for hipping us to broken triplets...
I think thats an old 20 inch K on my left, a new 22 inch Agop Istanbul Ride (1 rivet) and an 18 inch grand master that I drilled large (5/8?) holes in to to make it like an "ozone" but different.
THATS MY UNCLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks John! I just hopped over here after watching a Peter Erskine video. Key is relax, relax, relax, relax and relax.

Beautiful, Wikan. Great demo, great lesson. You make it look easier than it is. Kinda like makin' sill, ja?
